I wanted to love this, but it just wasn't for me it seems. I usually love poetry, but these were only okay. I didn't hate it, but I also didn't love it either.

This book just wasn't for me. I ended up not giving feedback a while back when I read it. However, I just wanted to say that, even though I didn't like this book, I'm sure many people will truly appreciate it. :)

Plunder by Dorsey Craft is an exquisite collection of prose tying Anne Bonny to a more modern vehicle jumping back and forth between images and colorful descriptions of life as a pirate or living on the sea and living life as a modern woman now. The prose is beautiful and colorful and vivid and can’t be blown through in a hurry, hard to really enjoy if you do so and you’ll miss a lot.

I had a hard time connecting with this collection, While the writing is very good, I found it a bit jarring to sway back and forth between 'modern day' poems and poems that focus more on an exploration of the themes of womanhood through Anne Bonny's story, I understand that Anne Bonny's story is intended to serve as a vehicle to discuss about current day issues, but I would have preferred a more seamless transition from poem to poem. The collection just felt a little imbalanced to me,

I’d never heard of the poet before but the cover, title and concept intrigued me and I was curious to see where the poet went. I don’t think I’ve ever read a collection of poems created using a persona before and the poems I tend to enjoy are very personal or autobiographical. I had such fun reading this collection. It’s not like any collection of poems I’ve read before. Not every poem features Anne Bonny and some poems are what I’d class as more standard modern poems. Anne Bonny’s poems were the most enjoyable, fun, dazzling and original. The best poems are The Pirate Anne Bonny Dances the Tarantella, The Pirate Anne Bonny Advises Jane Eyre, Memos for My Mother, Ode to Sex and the City (one of the best poems ever), Hernia and My Father the Shark. I look forward to seeing what the poet comes up with next.

This is a beautiful and powerful book of story weaving poetry and prose that is beautifully delivered. I love how these poems spin your imagination and leave you lingering over them.

At first I had problems downloading this book and viewing it. But I’m so glad I got the chance to properly read it afterwards. As an avid reader of poetry, I really appreciated the authors ability to spin a story through poetry/prose and create such vivid images in the minds eye. The book is full of medium length poems that are easy to read and enjoy.
