What I found most effective about the claustrophobic and tense One by One is the atmospheric setting, perfect for a gripping icy psychological thriller. The plot is fast paced and held my interest from start to end. I didn’t necessarily like many of the characters but that rarely bothers me, especially in this genre. Ruth Ware’s books are reliably addictive, well constructed and full of twists and turns. This isn’t my absolute favourite of Ware’s but is still an enjoyable, fast and furious read!

disappointed to be honest! after absolutely falling for Ruth Ware's mysteries ' Turn of the key' and 'In a Dark Dark Wood', reading this felt as if too elementary and lazily written. The first half definitely keeps you engrossed but it gets flatter as you continue.

A well written and plotted story by Ruth Ware. A fantastic thriller that kept my interest throughout. An enjoyable psychological thriller with lots of adventure!

I just love Ruth Ware and One by One was no exception. Her plots & settings are so inventive, distinctive and unique, and always drawn very richly to life - her research is great, and as a skier, this one certainly struck a chord with me! The combination of worlds here - tech start-up culture with Alpine chalet / ski season life - made for a fresh and interesting dynamic and the descriptions are so accurate (the fear you feel when first trying a lift, for example). I loved how the ominous plot unravelled, she builds the tension beautifully with the claustrophobic lock-in and I didn't see the twist coming. A fabulous mystery thriller, perfect holiday read - another winner from Ruth Ware. Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the opportunity to read.

A classic format - a group of people stranded being picked off one by one. I didn’t really like any of the characters much which made it difficult to enjoy the book. I did like the snowy setting and the workmates story was a nice change from the domestic setting that is so often seen in books of this kind. The background characters were t well formed and I did find myself trying to remember who was who. It was okay, just okay.

One by One is a perfect, fast paced Mystery/Thriller to get you out of any reading slump.

A corporate Skiing trip , an avalanche, two dead bodies, one person missing and presumed dead and one murderer!

This book was gripping from the start! The characters are so well written and getting to know each individual as the story unfolds adds to the mystery. Trying to work out who the killer is was harder than I thought. When you read as many mysteries as I do sometimes the big reveals get a bit predictable however One by One kept me guessing.

Another great book by Ruth Ware

Many thanks to Netgalley for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, All thoughts are my own and are in no way impacted by the nature in which i received this book.

I have previously read one book from Ruth Ware (In a Dark, Dark Wood) and thoroughly enjoyed it so I went into this book with pretty high expectations. Initially, I really enjoyed this story, especially because it was set-up right at the start of the story just how people would die. I enjoyed the supposed class differences between those working at the chalet and the guests as well as Danny just generally being really enjoyable character.

Unfortunately as I progressed through this book my interest began to wane. Whilst initialled excited and intrigued by knowing upfront how many people survived, the speed at which characters initially died meant that a lot of tension was removed from later conflicts as the reader knew how many people were meant to die. I was hoping that this would mean that expectations were subverted but unfortunately it didn't really come to anything.

I am not sure if it was just the way the characters were written which made me feel like my suspect list was very small but from fairly early on I felt as though I had just two characters that I was eyeing-up as the killer and unfortunately one of them was the killer.

My final issue with this book really comes down to personal preference but I found the pacing to be painfully slow. My preference for thrillers is that they are pretty fast-paced and move forward quite quickly but this story felt as though it ambled along at a leisurely pace and how a lot of additional information about the characters that didn't feel as though they brought too much to the story.

My final thoughts on this book are that is it is an ever so slightly below average thriller. I would be interested to see if it is improved on re-read going in knowing the ending and seeing what hints are made at that.

Loved In A Dark Dark Wood and was so happy to see a new novel from Ruth Ware! One by One is just as gripping and dark as her last novel. Characters were well explored and the plot had me in suspense. Fab read!

Ruth Ware is an absolute genius... The writing is smooth it flows effortlessly through this unputdownable ( not technically a word) plot that grasps you and leads you though characters you love and characters you love to hate.. But makes you want to keep reading.. This author will always have a huge place in my heart... Her books got me back into the live of reading... Thank you💕

One by One is a fantastic read, I was so impressed by the pace that Ruth Ware creates and then maintains. The characters are well formed. I felt as though I was constantly second guessing what was going to happen. The setting is also a fantastic device within the story, it heightens everything and adds an extra element.

I have read other novels by Ruth Ware but this one was a disappointment. Too many characters, irritating company name and a slow buildup spoiled my reading. I enjoyed the alpine setting and will read more by this author.

I love Ruth Ware’s books, this was a slightly different read however - but one I enjoyed very much.
I had kind of worked out the ending, but there was still a lot of detail in between I hadn’t factored in and I thought the book actually got more fast paced and exciting as it went on.
I really like the whodunnit style of writing and this one didn’t disappoint.

Hmm.. I found this one a little slow compared to Ruth Wares other books. The others were fast paced, kept me wanting to read but with this one I almost struggled, whilst still kinda enjoying myself at the same time?

I really enjoyed the plot and storyline, but feel like the pacing could've been better!

I really enjoyed reading this and was gripped from the start to the end. The characters were interesting, although I felt a few lacked depth and credibility. However, I liked Erin's character and was gripped to see her side of the story against Liz's. Overall this was a thoroughly enjoyable read and looking forward to reading more books by this author.

I was really excited to check out this new mystery book by Ruth Ware. Unfortunately, it fell a bit flat for me. The plot wasn't very compelling and felt slow in places.

Thank you to the publisher for my eARC copy of this book. Unfortunately I didn’t love this book and therefore didn’t finish, I just didn’t connect with this one. Not for me, sorry.

A great read that I flew through. Can't believe I left it on my netgalley shelf for so long.

I love these types of locked room thrillers, were we as a reader get suspicious of all the characters and when the body count starts mounting, we start suspecting everyone.

At first I was a bit confused with so many characters to keep track of and how they were linked to each other. I felt like a proper detective trying to piece together the pieces.

I liked how Ruth Ware used the title in the story for different uses. And everytime it popped up I thought how clever it was.

All in all I enjoyed this story. I was holding out for a huge twist towards the end, but I was happy with the way it ended.

A couldn't quite connect with this novel. I think the settings were interesting and the story intriguing but it didn't flow that easily and I struggle to keep reading. Well written.

This story had me captivated from the get go. Ruth Ware is everything thriller! There wasn’t one chapter that didn’t have something going on within it. I particularly love how modern the story is, with a high performing tech company going on a work away weekend and displaying the relationships and politics within the company. The characters were well developed within the story even though it was told from a two character narrative, switching between the two. I gave this five stars!

I love Ruth Ware. It was a fantastic story but a little predictable and I pretty much guessed it early on. Still, it was a really good read.
