I enjoyed reading this- it's funny and has lots of lovable characters- even the villains have their good points. Very easy to read, great holiday reading. The story runs along at a good pace and I would recommend it.

This is a very enjoyable crime thriller with an unusual cast of main protagonists. Basing the story around a group of interesting older people (all with very different back stories) gives it an interesting slant. I like the way they weren't patronised and were treated respectfully and sensitively. The various strands of the plot are skilfully interwoven and tied up at the end in a neat way. I could easily imagine this book being adapted for television and spawning a series because the characters in the retirement village are all likeable - you feel like you'd enjoy a cup of tea (or glass of wine) and some cake with them. The police officers were perhaps slightly more conventional but at least they weren't mavericks with a depressing back story. I think this is a good debut novel and I enjoy hearing Richard Osman's erudite, dry wit and intelligence coming through the writing. I would definitely read more of his work.

I really enjoyed this book. It's an easy to read, funny whodunnit with plenty of twists and turns throughout. A great cast of characters and a good setting for the storyline.
