Very cute, easy to follow guide to drawing characters in various poses. Not a ton of text so even younger artists should be able to make good use of it.

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

It is step by step tutor book for kids. It teaches drawing various cartoon character in a very simple way.
Various phases of drawing are described.
It is a very good well structured book. It will certainly help kids to learn to draw characters better. Problem with book is that there are many similar books on offer.
A good book to gift to kids who like to draw.
Thanks netgalley and publisher for review copy.

This one is a step above most book done in this style. I feel like the how to draw books targeting kids and newbie artists often break things down into about 3 steps and don't really explain them well enough. Great if you learn best by copying, but if you get stuck, then what? This book offers both steps and useful hints.

This book breaks most of the figures into a few circles that you use as your guides for the faces and bodies both. It includes some action poses, character to copy with tips, and template bodies for making your own characters with.

I hate drawing bodies, but the characters in this book were so simple that even I could draw them without getting frustrated. Hate noses? These characters are so simple they don’t have them. Though they look simple, there is quite a few steps in some of them.

The book also has some tips for turning your characters into a comic strip.

As someone that can't draw at all I wanted to see if this book would help bring out my inner artist. Sadly, I'm a little bit better, but still not great. Good book on basics of drawing.

This book contains many drawing instructions for comic book characters in different poses. This book would be useful to anyone who is starting out in drawing comics or just wants to have some fun doodling characters.

As a comic book and animation fan, I was grateful to be able to review You Can Draw Comic Book Characters. Spencer Brinkerhoff starts off with an opener that was encouraging and motivating for beginners. He stresses that the key to comic book drawing is shape recognition, which other art teachers and authors have equally underscored. However, for a beginner guide, it is a bit light in the detail department. Though the graphics are appreciated written detail would have been more helpful. For instance, the first drawing splits the head into three parts, but does not emphasize what should go where. It may be self-explanatory, but for young readers this may not be as explicit enough. The characters all look the same, which again, may be important for beginners, but it lends a sense of blandness throughout.

I am currently working on a workshop for kids and teens where they can learn to draw manga and comics.

This book is really good for younger kids because you could very easy adapt the style and create your own comic characters.

I like this book a lot and am going to buy it for myself.

Thanks for letting me read this book

What makes this book unique is that it provides character templates for those with more novice level skills to be able to trace before drawing in the details. This is great for muscle memory if you do not feel comfortable drawing them straight away. The step-by-step guides are easy to follow and the breakdowns of each step are relatively simple (as in you're not doing 20 things in each step, unlike some books). I also really enjoyed that the author broke down things like how to really work on motion with your characters, how to add in dialogue, how to break a comic down into boxes, and how to combine everything to make your own comics. It's above and beyond just how to draw the comic book characters themselves and that is awesome.

Such a fun book for anyone wanting to learn how to draw comic book characters. This book is at a beginners level with easy instructions starting with forward-facing characters than moving into a variety of more difficult poses.

I was impressed because even at a beginners level this book has tons of useful information and helpful hints to get you started.

I recieved this book from NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group- Walter Foster Jr.

A great book for artistic children wanting to learn to draw comic book heroes and characters. It is an easy introduction with basic characters in a very specific cartoon style. If this style is not to your taste they can be easily adapted. Lots of useful information and helpful hints on putting together your own comic strip.
