SEE HER DIE by Melinda Leigh is the second book in the Bree Taggert romantic suspense/police procedural series and this is one I recommend you start with Her Second Death, the first book in the series. This book takes place a couple of months after the end of the first book in the series and three weeks after Bree becomes the sheriff of Randolph County in upstate New York. Bree is called to a shooting at Grey Lake campground, but when she gets there there is no victim, no blood and no shooter to confirm the report of the sole witness. The witness is also squatting in the cabins and she is a questionable witness. To be sure, Bree calls former investigator Matt Flynn and his K-9 for help. If there is a body, they will find it. What is going on? Was there really a shooting or is the witness lying? There is also a secondary case of a missing college student that is the grandson of a family friend. Are these cases connected?

Bree is a great main character. She is dealing with her home life as well as trying to adapt to her new position as sheriff. Her job is a huge part of who she is and her identity. I also enjoy Matt's character as well as Brody, his K-9. He is a smart investigator and he and Bree work well together. I am hoping that their personal relationship develops over the next few books as there is definitely an attraction there, but I like that Melinda Leigh is not making that the main focus right now. I always enjoy seeing characters from her other series pop up in these books with Morgan and Stella Dane both making an appearance. The mystery/crime is very interesting and the plot is well developed. When bodies of unrelated victims start turning up, things get more interesting, and more sinister. The book is told from both Bree's POV and the killer, which makes it a bit creepy, but interesting. I liked seeing how Bree and Matt put the clues and evidence together to solve the crimes with two teams searching for the killer. I did not know how this was going to end and I loved the suspense and action as the story is wrapped up. I definitely recommend this book if you are a fan of crime thrillers/police procedurals.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I was so pleased that book two was just as good! A good murder mystery is my favorite genre and I am so glad I stumbled upon Melinda Leigh and this series. The suspense and storyline is great and keeps the reader engaged. I love this series and can't wait until the next one comes out!

When Sheriff Bree Taggert arrives at what she is told is the sene of a shooting, she’s at first confused: despite having a witness tell her that she saw her female friend being shot, no body and no blood can be found. But then, deputies stumble over the body of a male, dead for several days, in a nearby lake and that sets off a new investigation, which may or may not be related to the possible shooting. As the case becomes more complicated, Bree calls in Matt to assist, but Matt is privately investigating the disappearance of a family friend. As all the piece fall into place, Bree realizes that she may be dealing with something so large, Gray’s Hollow could be in big trouble.

I would highly recommend reading this book after heaving read the first in the series, since Bree and Matt are both dealing emotionally and personally with the events from the first book throughout the second book. However, the mystery itself does stand alone.

Bree and Matt make a great team once again, and the mystery in this one was really good. It was a wild ride, from not having any body or evidence of any crime, to having…..um….plenty of evidence of crimes, you’ll see what I mean with that one. It really kept me guessing too. As soon as you think you have a good handle on things, you get thrown for a loop and a new twist pops up. Needless to say, I did not solve this one before the reveal.

On the personal side of things, it was nice to continue to see how Bree and her family were dealing with everything and I look forward to seeing more of that. There were some developments that were hinted at in this one, and I look forward to following those in future installments in the series.

There’s also some crossover action for Melinda Leigh fans, so be prepared for a little Easter egg thrown in there. It was clever.

Once again, another winner in this series, even better than the first one, in my opinion!

A very good romantic suspense novel, beautifully written and easy to read with lots of red herrings re the murderer. There is only about 1% actual romance as this story is all about the police investigation, but the H/h are constantly together and are friends and this is a slow burn romance that develops through the series. There are quite a few side characters, but nothing that detracts from the central story or the developing romance. Told from the POV of Matt and Bree and there are a few small chapters from the UNSUB's POV. I would recommend this book and anything else this author has written.

My thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the eArc in return for my opinion. I also want to say that as well as receiving this ARC, I also borrowed the book on KU from Montlake and listened to part of the included audio. The narrator does an excellent job and reads all parts very well. 4.5 stars.

Bree is called to investigate a shooting report. Only, when she arrives, there is no body, no blood, no traces of a crime. Except for the words of a witness, Alyssa, who claims she saw someone shoot her friend Harper. Alyssa is homeless and she is clearly hiding something, so it's no surprise that no one believes her. No one but Bree. Everything becomes more complicated when soon the police do find the body, only it's not Harper's. Bree will need the help of Matt Flynn, her love interest, to solve these crimes.
I ended up really liking it. The mystery was solid, the pacing well done. I didn't guess who the killer was which is always a plus. I liked how in this one Matt officially became part of an investigation team. I liked how well he and Bree worked together, a great partnership where one compliments the other. The romance took a backseat here. There is clearly a mutual attraction but there are also a lot of obstacles. Bree is only getting used to being a guardian and caretaker of her niece and nephew, who just recently lost their mother. So the last thing she wants to do is upset the fragile balance of this newly formed family. And Matt understands, I liked that about him. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough if Bree's niece and nephew, but I think they will be more present in the future books.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

After reading (and loving!) the first book in this series, I simply couldn't wait to immerse myself in this story!
When Sheriff Bree enlists the help of her friend Matt, a truly captivating story begins to unfold. The story takes us through many twists and turns as the pair race against the clock to find the killer before anyone else is harmed.
I really enjoyed this book and being reunited with some familiar characters. The story does come to its conclusion rather quick, which is something I would perhaps have liked to have led up to a bigger reveal, but this certainly did not take any of my enjoyment away from this incredible read.

I look forward to reading the rest of this brilliant series!.

I don't think there's anything that Melinda Leigh can do wrong. I'm obsessed with everything she writes.

When two major cases make county sheriff resources run thin, Sheriff Bree Taggert asks for help from friend Matt Flynn. The more the two of them investigate, the more twisty everything seems. As the bodies start to pile up, can Bree and Matt find the killer before someone else is killed?

I really enjoyed this one. I'm enjoying getting to know all the characters in this series. And I like getting little glimpses of characters in other series. I do feel like the ending was really quick again. I feel like I wanted more satisfaction from the big reveal. It was not as exciting as a reveal normally would be. I also wanted more between Matt and Bree. Overall, I enjoyed this book and can't wait to continue this series!

3.5 Stars for this second in the Bree Taggert series. Stars with a bang, and keeps your interest the rest of the way thru. Quick, easy read perfect for a rainy day in!

I love detective novels, and if you are looking into reading a series, this is a good one to start. You might miss the full backstory of Bree that we are introduced in the first one, but it doesn’t deter from this one, you will get enough of it to understand her. All the characters were introduced in the first book, but the correlation between all is easily picked up. Nota lot of romance (which I liked) but a tease of things to come. I look forward to reading #3!

Thanks to Ms. Leigh, Montlake Romance and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.

Hello everyone! I recently finished reading See Her Die by Melinda Leigh. Oh. My. God. That book was amazing! I love thrillers and mysteries and this one was soooo good! It has so many interesting aspects and so much that I did not see coming.

This is the second of the Bree Taggert books (I haven't read the first one, so you can definitely read this one first if you want, although I believe they do talk about what happened in the first book). I did recently find out that the first one, Cross Her Heart, is available for free with Amazon Prime so I will definitely be reading that.

In this book, Bree Taggert has recently been named sheriff and she strives to be a good leader while struggling to take care of her recently orphaned niece and nephew. They get a call about a shooting with no evidence that a shooting even took place. Just one not-so-trustworthy witness. And then they find a body.

How can you go wrong with a good murder mystery? You really can't as long as it's done well and Melinda Leigh does it well. I loved this book and although it can be read as a stand alone, I'm glad I read book 1 first because there are overlapping characters and storylines. I can't wait to read more from this author.

I'm always excited to read a Melinda Leigh book and this was no exception. The book is well executed and suspenseful. Brew is a tough no nonsense protagonist and I really like her and the secondary characters. The book moves at a great pace and kept me thoroughly engrossed. I can't wait for book 3!

This is book 2 and although it can be read as a standalone I wish I had read the first book because it talks about what happens in the previous book so now I know what happens. I will still be reading it though and have already purchased it.

I absolutely loved the chemistry between Bree & Matt and thought they were great main characters. The murders were brutal so if you aren’t a fan of the gruesome this might not be for you. I do love a gory read though. I was kept guessing and the fast pace kept me hooked. I enjoyed reading about Bree’s family and I can’t wait to read more and see them grow. It also features doggy sidekicks and who doesn’t love a good dog.

This one started with a bang! Oh boy, I tell you, it has grabbed me tightly, with its exciting, captivating, and intriguing storyline. It’s one of those books that thrill you as you read even though some parts are grisly, there is no putting this one down until you have reached the end. This book wasn’t disappointing at all, the thrill factor is awesome and the intrigue got you on the edge of your seats. Sheriff Bree and Matt had their work cut out with this one, a must-read all the way.

Bree is the sheriff of the small town she lives in. She is also now the guardian of her niece and nephew, after their mother is murdered. So no time for romance, especially with Matt the ex-deputy/ k9 handler. When a young girl reports witnessing a murder of her friend, it’s Brees job to investigate and capture the murderer. But what happens when the body they find isn’t the one they were looking for?

See Her Die is the second book in a series by Melinda Leigh, an author I simply adore. The setting is not far from the location of her previous series (Morgan Dane), Scarlet Falls, New York and the characters have a similar feel. The plot, as always, is a great suspenseful mystery that keeps me guessing till the end. There is an almost-romance to be fleshed out and this is already proving to be an incredibly good series.

Bree Taggert is now newly appointed in the role of Sheriff of Randolph County, New York. She attends a call following a shooting at Grey Lake, a campground shuttered for the winter, however, there is no shooter, no victim, and no blood, but Alyssa, a homeless teenager, insists she saw her friend shot. Bree turns to former deputy Sheriff's investigator, Matt Flynn and his retired service dog, Brody to track the killer, but the trail leads them to the body of a different victim. The missing university student under the ice is not Alyssa's friend and when other students vanish and more bodies are found, Bree must act quickly to find the link.

As with Melinda Leigh's other novels, this one offers a complete package - a complex storyline, characters' backstories, and a wonderful writing style that is straightforward and easy to read. I really enjoy slipping within the pages of her books and getting behind a tough, but intelligent main player like Bree Taggert. This novel was a fantastic, electrifying and solid mystery and I continued to warm to both Bree and Matt. It was well-told and it had me glued to the pages as I was desperate to know the outcome of the story. As Bree, Matt and her co-workers embarked on an exciting mission to find the killer, all of the time the tension was being ratcheted up a notch, and I was smacked with some captivating misdirection and a few well placed red herrings.

The compelling plot was brilliantly executed, the well-defined characters and underlying currents being the main highlights, all building up to a great ending. I love a good murder mystery with a hint of romance, and this one definitely didn't let me down. Overall, See Her Die was a superb read and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Drown Her Sorrows.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Montlake Romance via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

fter the fabulous opener to the series, I was in high anticipation to get into this next suspenseful case with Bree and Matt. It opened strong and didn't let up until the end leaving me eager for the next.

See Her Die is the second of a new series set in the Scarlett Falls world. Each mystery is standalone, but the ongoing character and relationship growth make it best to get the series in order. There are also crossovers from the two previous series so that reading order is the Scarlett Falls trilogy and then the Morgan Dane series before the Bree Taggart.

Bree is the new sheriff and has the job of clean up a department after replacing a corrupt sheriff while still grieving her sister and trying to be what her grieving nephew and niece need from her. Her own troubled childhood doesn't lend itself to the job, but she wants them to have it better than she and her brother do as they still deal with the abuse and the later death of their own parents. Her plate is full so she never took Matt Flynn up on their mutual interest, but now with a witness who saw her friend shot though there is no body, she needs Matt and his K-9 partner Brody out at the lake and hunting down the tracks of a potential killer and she definitely needs a partner at her back she can trust.

Matt was disappointed Bree cancelled their dinner date and never got back with him, but he gets it. He is reluctant to help the sheriff's department especially after getting shot in a friendly fire incident that he suspects wasn't an accident, but he will do anything to help Bree. He also has committed to helping an older lady with her missing college-age grandson. Brody sniffs out a trail over the ice to a body, but it isn't the girl who was supposedly shot and it wasn't his missing grandson case. The case just got even more mysterious and it will take some dedicated work to catch a killer before he finishes his killing agenda and goes after the only witness and the new meddling sheriff.

After all the fantastic books that came earlier, I never have a doubt that I'll be in for a riveting read when I pick up this author's latest book. I'm really enjoying this latest series. Bree is a blend of strong, skilled, and smart with some vulnerability. Her fear of dogs is becoming a big liability as is her need to deal with her past, but she muscles through when needed to be what her family needs of her and do the job that will save lives and get a vicious killer off the streets. Matt is perfect as her working partner and more. He respects her as a person and as a law enforcement officer and especially now that she's in charge. His injuries from the shooting keep him from full time law enforcement, but he's still a good dog handler and detective. They are pure gold as a team.

The mystery was a clever one as usual. It looks cut and dry and I knew who the killer was and then realized that I got snookered about part of the situation. I love when a good mystery can do that. The intense action was peppered throughout the steady investigation and the sheriff's department issues of who was trustworthy added tension to this part of the plot.

Just like in the first book, I was tickled when some familiar faces, both Dane sisters, crossed over and joined Bree and Matt.

I can't wait to see what comes next for the series after I devoured this latest. Those who enjoy romantic suspense that is well-balanced, well-paced, and developed with good complexities in characters and mystery shouldn't hesitate to jump into the Bree Taggert series or go all the way back to the beginning with the Scarlett Falls trilogy.
