Thank you to Carla Kovach, Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC.

This was my first Carla Kovach book, and it was a fantastic one. When I requested this, I must've glazed over the fact that it was book six in the Detective Gina Harte series. Even though I hadn't read the first five books, I had no trouble following the story or the characters. This was a great read, with a OMG I didn't see that coming ending. The ending was absolutely terrific! You think the killer is one person and then you get blindsided with the real killers identity. Wow.

I decided to read the first two books in this series before posting this review, and I have to say that this is my new favorite series. The dynamic between Gina, Jacob, Briggs, Wyre and the rest of the team is great. I didn't like Hannah when I read Her Last Mistake, and after reading the first couple books I now know why she irks me LOL.

Carla Kovach has definitely become one of my new favorite authors, and I can't wait to read the next Gina Harte installment!

I love this kind of books where the writer chooses to divide the story in short chapters. It not only encourages me to read one (or several ;) ) more chapter(s) especially when it's getting late at night, but it also makes it more fast paced.

Some books start at a low and build up. This one already starts at a high and that can make you wonder whether this can even be topped. And yes, it certainly can! There is never a low in this story.

I fell asleep last night with the book in my hands. Noooo, it was not because of the story but because it was already way past midnight. I woke up about an hour later and I started reading again. That's how addictive this one is!

I fried my brain trying to figure out who was behind all these horrible things, but as usual to no avail. I had to wait for the author to reveal everything to me.

DI Harte is torn between her private life and her professional one. Will she be able to deal with both? 5 stars

Thank you, Carla Kovach and Bookouture

This is the sixth book starring Detective Gina Harte and she’s as good as ever. Holly a bridesmaid has been murdered at her friends wedding and she won’t be the last victim. Who could want Holly dead? Why didn’t anyone know she was pregnant? Whilst trying to solve the case Gina is still trying to improve her relationship with her adult daughter plus there is always the question of her rekindling the romance with her boss.
I liked all the characters and how the story unfolded. Will definitely add book seven to my TBR pile.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love the Gina series! Couldn’t wait to read this one so was thrilled to get an advanced copy. Finished it way to fast!

A killer is targeting Kerry’s bridesmaids.... but why? And when will they stop?

Really enjoyed this, I love Gina and her team. Well written, this one kept me guessing until the end. And I can’t wait until the next one!

As always well written and plotted with the return of several strong characters and enough unexpected twists to keep you guessing until the conclusion.

I read the first book in this series, The Last Girl, a while ago and liked it. Even though I skipped from the first to sixth I was still able to catch up for the most part. I enjoy the DI Gina Harte series and normally I’m not a fan of series novels! I’m actually going to go back and read 2-5 now and look forward to a seventh.

Her Last Mistake. Carla Kovach.

A wedding day in a nice Country House Hotel.

Holly, one of the Bridesmaids, is killed in her room.

It almost sound like an Agatha Christie plot. But Miss Christie never wrote like this, in fact I don’t think she would have stood a chance against some of the modern day writers.

Carla Kovach is one of the best of these modern crime fiction authors, and the thing she does best is line up a series of suspects, making each one very plausible. This turns each book into a proper who-done-it.

In this one there is the mystery boyfriend, the local drug dealer, and a childhood friend of the bride who has never forgiven Holly for taking her friend away from her all those years ago.

All this in the first 30% of the book. (I read it on a Kindle)

Every time I thought I knew who the killer was there a little twist that made me change my mind. Not the type of twist where you think “Crikey where did that come from” just a tiny nuance, or hint, just a little thing to lead my mind down a different path.

From there the story just gets better and better. It’s a fast paced book which takes place over a few days, and leads to a wonderful conclusion.

The characters in a book are as important as the plot as far as I’m concerned. DI Gina Harte is one of the best. Every book in this series could be read as a stand-alone but the Gina-plot which runs through all of the books is one of the best stories I’ve read. Her story alone would have made an excellent book.

Keep them coming Carla Kovach, I can’t wait to see what happens next.

In this last book of the Gina Harte series, the detective deals with a maelstrom of problems ranging from her professional life to personal life to her romantic life (or lack thereof). Someone is murdering young women all part of a tight knit group of friends. When the group comes together for one of the women's wedding reception, the first murder takes the life of the friend who has a secret lover and undisclosed pregnancy. While chasing down leads for this violent death, Gina's team learns of the death of a second friend, but this death is different. Are they dealing with two murderers or one? In the midst of this challenging case, Gina's daughter ends her visit (along with her granddaughter), when Gina has to leave to find the killer/s, then she gets involved with one of the suspects. Meanwhile, Briggs and Gina's past romantic interlude and sharing of secrets hangs between them. He wants to spend time together, but she is hesitant. She doesn't want to relive the pain of how her husband died and her part in that death. The answers to the riddles of these cases keep everyone guessing until the end!

This is book six in the Detective Gina Harte series.
I've read all of Carla Kovach's books and adored every one of them!

This latest installment is a bit darker than previous books. It's full of suspense and tension. The chapters from the killers point of view are wonderfully creepy. This one kept me guessing and the reveal halfway stunned me.
Gina's character has a lot on her plate as usual. The tension between her and Hannah doesn't seem possible to resolve. Hannah acts like a spoiled teenager and her behavior makes you wonder about her. Gina is an amazing and determined detective, however, she really is a crappy mother. The dynamic between the two makes for interesting reading. I also enjoy the dynamic between Gina and Briggs. I am anxious to see some resolution in these relationships.

Loved it!! This is one of my favorite detective series. Love Detective Gina Harte. Not only is she a great detective who always goes above and beyond to solve the crime, she also has the adorable kitty Ebony. I have hope that she and Briggs will eventually get back together. He seems to be the only one that she might finally open up to and tell him everything. Not a fan of Hannah. I hate how she treats her mom. I cringe every time she's around, because I know she will start a fight if her mom needs to go to work. She acts like an obnoxious teenager rather than an adult. Hannah blames her mom for everything. If she only knew what Gina went through with Terry. Even if Gina tells her daughter about the abuse, I don't think Hannah will believe her. Hannah's not so perfect, so maybe she should stop being judgmental.

Loved the story, characters and writing style. It was a great mystery/thriller. Never suspected who was behind the bridesmaid killings. I was pretty much suspicious of everyone. There was definitely a large list of creepy men to choose from. There were so many twists and turns. Cass's fixation of Kerry was borderline obsessive. She was pretty much a stalker. I don't know why she wanted to be friends with her after all those years.

Definitely recommend the book. I can't wait to find out what Gina Harte will be up to next. Looking forward to reading more books by the author. Love the cover of the book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The new Det. Gina Hart book by Carla Kovach finds DI Hart going through her tortured life with even more issues popping.

The distanced relationship with her daughter Hannah; the unstable relationship with her former lover and worker Briggs; the haunting memories of her dead husband have all hit a fever pitch and Gina is tired. Dog tired.

But there's no rest for the weary and she's called into the murder of a bridesmaid hour after the wedding. When another girl who was also a bridesmaid turns up dead, Gina had to sift through a cast of suspects who all have guilt of some kind built into them.

I hate spoiler so I'll leave the plot there.

What I will say is that this book was much darker and more... creepy than the other 5 Hart books. As usual, Kovach lets you into the mind of the perpetrator along with Hart and the bad guy is written with a much more sinister hand than Kovach usually uses. Was it effective? Not for me. It was just creepy. When the perpetrator is revealed, it was a bit of surprise, I'll give you that. ANd leave it up to the reader if they think it was a worthwhile ending.

Thanks to Netgalley for a glimpse before publication.

This police procedural starts very good, well written and with a good pace and less dead meat than most British crime novels. The plot, however, is a little lacking, and the last half is mostly churning in place.
This book also shows the problem of writing about the future, as nothing happens in April and May 2020 without impact from Covid-19.

6th in the Gina Harte series and another fantastic read

Someone is killing bridesmaids from a recent wedding and whilst Gina is overstretched , tired and run ragged she knows their killer is closing in on the last of the bridesmaids, with several suspects with unreliable or no alibis to choose from she knows she has to find her killer

Highly recommended

I love Carla Covach's books and Gina Harte and her team are great creations. The plot is twisty and the pace is urgent, I also love Gina's relationship with Briggs and her back story. However, what I didn't like in this book was the solution, which felt very forced to me as well as unrealistic. I also feel that, this far along in the series, Gina and Hannah should be getting along better. I thought too much time was spent on Cass musing about her weight and fixating on a friendship that had ended long ago. I'm sure this wasn't the writer's intention but it suggested that obese people are friendless! Great series, but this one in a bit of a weak link in my opinion.

This is the sixth book in the author’s Gina Harte series and was another ‘blockbuster’ from Kovach. DI Gina Harte is stretched to her limits this time - no sleep, worries over her daughter and someone is killing the bridesmaids for a wedding just held.

Gina and her team are run ragged chasing the clues in this one but something doesn’t quite add up. There are too many suspects and, while none of them seem ideal, none of them seems to have a good alibi. The police are worried the killer will strike again - there is one bridesmaid left. A former close friend of the bride is unwittingly drawn into this dark drama and by the time police realise she is in danger it may very well be too late. There is a neat twist at the end which I wasn’t expecting. All in all a very satisfying book, perfect for Coronavirus lockdown.

Her Last Mistake is book 6 in the Gina Harte series but can be read as a standalone. I think it's my favourite book of the series so far, The writing and the pacing are excellent and Carla Kovach always keeps me guessing until the very end. I love all the twists and turns and how Carla includes other points of view.
Gina Harte is flawed and that's what makes her so lovable and relatable. I only wish that the other police officers would be a little bit more developed (I missed that in the previous books as well) because I easily get them confused. That's however a minor critic and doesn't prevent from understanding the story.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Thank you to the publisher who provided me with an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Another cracking book from Carla Kovach and again this one brings you in several different directions before an ending that was completely unexpected. I also like that there is a back story between Gina and Hannah.,it gives more depth to the story as it makes it more than just solving the latest murder and while I normally hate a romantic side in this genre, I like the will they won't they part between Gina and Briggs. I would definitely recommend reading this series of books.

This was an excellent procedural thriller that kept me literally entranced. The character depiction was on point and the story was fascinating and well developed.
