Little Whispers by K.L.Slater

I loved this book.

Janey’s husband gets a great new job with double his normal salary which allows them to move to an upper-class neighbourhood with their son.

Janey soon becomes great friends with the ladies that live right on her street and also send their children to the same school as her son. She feels so close to one girl she shares her darkest secret which is later used against her.

I am not complaining that Janey’s secret is revealed over 70% into the book. I enjoyed reading the leadup to the secret revelation.

I enjoyed the story and characters very much.

The only thing I would complain about is the small inconsistent facts. E.g. on one page we read they left the house at 11:30pm then a few chapters later we are told it was 6:30pm. In the book we are told a 20-year-old passed away and she left behind a 14-year-old child, sorry do the math a 6-year-old cannot have a baby. And some sentences are repeated twice. I hope this will be edited before the book gets published.

I would like to thank Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Really liked this book! Each character has an agenda and I spent most of the book trying to figure it all out. Credit to author, I was totally surprised by the secrets and all of the mystery. Even my guesses that I felt pretty confident about were completely wrong. Think Mean Girls as adults.

Thanks, NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of anything K.L. Slater writes, and I'm always looking out for any of her new psychological thrillers. Having the chance to read two new titles in less than a month is definitely a huge bonus for me! I was intrigued by the premise of Little Whispers and I have been looking forward to pick it up. And as always, the writing is most definitely solid and it turned out to be an entertaining psychological thriller. Definitely a great pick for fans of domestic thrillers with a fair share of secrets!

While I confess that this story isn't my favorite Slater and I did feel that some of that spark was missing when I read the story, I still think Little Whispers is a more than solid read. It might just even be that these kind of domestic psychological thrillers just are not a good match for me right now... Because let's face it: in these strange times my reading taste has been all over the place and can hardly be trusted. That said, let's see if I can explain briefly what made me feel this way. First of all, I liked the premise of the story and the idea of 'outsiders' moving into a new posh neighborhood and trying to fit in makes for an intriguing story. The main focus is on the secrets and gossip of course... And I liked how the tension and suspense was slowly build up without giving away those secrets and twists.

That said, I do have to say is that I found some of the reveals to be quite an anti-climax, and especially those secrets relating to Janey's past. Somehow I was expecting something a whole lot more daunting? Sure, it was shocking and all, but I don't see why it should affect Janey that much as it didn't involve anything she did or could have influenced personally. It did raise an interesting question though: how far are we accountable for the actions of others? This question is also raised by the actions of her husband of course, and in a lesser way in Tracy too. In fact, we have a big cast of characters with things to hide, and as a consequence a lot of secrets and lies to unravel along the way...

The story uses a separate POV (in cursive) to add an ominous feel to the whole situation, as the woman in question seems to be in accute danger and you wonder how she fits in with the rest of the story. Switching between her and the other characters in play definitely added more suspense as well as making the plot feel more complex. As for the characters... I have to be honest here and say I wasn't really able to connect to any of them, but their development was well handled and their personalities fitted the part they played in the plot. And there were definitely a couple plot twists I didn't see coming! Especially those relating to the final reveals and the whole situation involving what Janey's husband was up to...

In short, Little Whispers is without doubt a solid psychological thriller that has that domestic vibe. While it's not my favorite of hers, I can still recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading the genre.

I just recently read my first K. L. Slater book, and really enjoyed it so was very happy to get the opportunity to read yet another. I enjoyed this book, I found it hard to believe that someone would be so trusting of some of the characters but still found it incredibly enjoyable and easy to read. I cannot wait to pick up another book from this author.

Not my first Slater book and definitely not my last. I really enjoy her writing and will look at several others. Janey was a fun character. She seemed desperate for connection.... from her mom, from her husband, from the bat s%#t gossiping women from Buckingham Crescent. I was rooting for her. I wanted her to find friendship and I wanted her husband to stop being such a weirdo. The book was a quick easy read. I was able to fly through it very quickly. It took a few twists I didn't see coming which I 💕love 💕! I recommend this quick, easy, fun read!

Just wow! KL Slater never ever disappoints!! I love her edgy writing style. Was hooked from the very beginning! How do we know who trust and just how much of our hearts do we give away?
Many story lines woven together and the reader just knows something is ‘off’ about the scenario. And boom you’re still stunned when it happens.
Lovely job! Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

K.L. Slater does not disappoint! Little Whispers is a a slow burn rather than a wild ride. Janie’s husband, Isaac, lands a lucrative new job, and they move to a posh neighborhood in Nottingham. A great school for Rowan, a group of Uber friendly school moms, what can go wrong? Rich, flawed characters drive this thriller. Grab a copy, this is not to be missed!

I give this book all the stars. This is one I keep in my bag at all times for a reread. I loved the story and the characters.

I absolutely love K.L. Slater! She's one of my favorite writers since I read 'Blink.'
I've read almost all of her books, but none of them quite lived up to 'Blink' until now!
'Little Whispers' is a perfect blend of domestic noir and psychological thriller. Ms. Slater, you are the master of misdirection! I was all over the place trying to figure out what was going. The characters were so interesting (and suspect) and the twists just kept coming! When all was finally revealed, I just sat speechless, mouth agape and wishing this beautiful reading experience hadn't ended.
'Little Whispers' has (miraculously) dethroned 'Blink' as my favorite K.L. Slater book.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
And thank you Ms. Slater for another fantastic reading experience.

Thank you for the gifted copy of this book. Being new to this forum, this is only my second review given and I'm really excited to be a part of this reading community. Little Whispers by K.L. Slater was the first book I've read by this author and she did not disappoint my mystery/thriller reading self! I am a sucker for a twisty ending and she laid it on. A lot of back story was given during the course of the book so at times it seemed to drag just a bit, but it was needed in order to set up the ending and I did not see it coming. A quick read for me with great characters.

I started it one afternoon and needless to say didn't stop reading till I was done. I was hooked from the first page. This is such a good thriller.

Another fantastically addictive read by K L Slater, who is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. This story has more of a domestic noir feel to it, but is still packed with mystery and intrigue. I honestly had no idea of what the 'secret' was until the reveal. It's certainly not a storyline that could be called predictable. Lots of shallow, greedy characters that made the plot so addictive.

Absolutely brilliant, could not put it down. It’s a fantastic mystery book based on the lives of a couple who have moved to an upmarket area from a working class background. It’s well written with an endearing main character/ read it you won’t be disappointed!! 5 stars 🌟

K.L. Slater has become a reputable writer, one you go to again and again for solid writing. I found Little Whispers to be entertaining and a page-turner. This kind of reminded me of Big Little Lies, with a few differences. Definitely the neighborhood-style mystery, the haves and have nots and shady business dealings. The resolution and ending seemed to drone on and one however but overall a good book.

Firstly I want to say huge thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this title. Having read K L Slater before and heard good things about this book I was thrilled to receive a copy!

Sadly, I found this book a little lack lustre for my liking. Whilst as easy and engaging read it was however very slow, extremely repetitive and the twists weren’t enough for me to warrant it further stars.

Throughout the book we’re thrown head on into suspicion, deception and a tangle of lies which runs alongside Janey’s secret past. Whilst the characters are well created and there is plenty of plot for the author to play with my ‘imagined’ ending/twists were sadly more creative than the reality. Which in my opinion was a lot more predictable and structured.

At times I felt the book was a lot like Liane Moriarty’s ‘Big Little Lies’ as it featured these ultra glamorous, stay at home mums who dress in designer gear, drink coffee and are into everyone’s business. Lies, secrets and past coming to catch up with them etc

I couldn’t help wanting to just give Janey a shake and make her be more demanding in her questioning and stand up for herself more. I think her husband is let off far too easily.

As always, one book is never a true representation of style or talent and one person’s opinion will differ greatly from others. What didn’t appeal to me might to others and I’m certainly looking forward to reading more from K L Slater.

This book is very addictive, so make sure you have plenty of time when you decide to settle down with it, because once you start you are going to want to finish it as soon as possible. Forewarned is fore armed. ;)

When you move, you always feel a bit lost in the beginning. Everything that you knew you well, you had to leave behind and being accepted in the new community is very important.

Making new friends often also means opening up to them, but never about that horrible secret you are hiding! Maybe you should have declined that last glass of fizz...

Who is genuine and who could easily be nominated for actor or actress of the year?

Amazing author. Brilliant story. 5 stars

Thank you, K.L. Slater and Bookouture
