When Janey’s Mum tells her a life changing secret on her deathbed, Janey needs time to come to terms with the devastation. When her husband, Isaac, announces he has a new job earning an excellent income, it’s not long before they find the house of their dreams. Isaac, Janey and their son, Rowan move onto Buckingham Crescent in Nottingham.

Janey feels she won’t settle in, especially when she takes Rowan to school and the Mums are all in their little groups. After a while, she is accepted into a group with Tanya, Edie and Ky and she starts to enjoy the lifestyle they all keep on Buckingham Crescent. Before long and after a few drinks too many, Janey tells her new friend Tanya her secret.

This is an entertaining story that was hard to put down. The secrets and lies throughout the book were plentiful. It’s not long before you get sucked in to the lives of the characters and it’s hard to know who is real and who is fake. This is an author who never lets me down with her books and I look forward to reading more from her.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

I've been a fan of K.L. Slater all throughout her writing career, and I'm thrilled to say this thriller does not disappoint!

The story is about Janey, who moves to a new town for her husband's new IT job, along with their son. At first, the local mothers at school drop off are cold to Janey. They're prissy and come from money, and her family is blue collar. Eventually, the women warm up and invite Janey into their friendship circle, but a series of unfortunate events change everything when Janey drunkenly tells one of the mothers something about her past...something she should have never revealed.

The suspense builds at a quick pace in this story, with plenty of dark twists. I was hooked from beginning to end, and would highly recommend to fans of domestic thrillers.

Thank you to Bookouture, author K.L. Slater, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book in two days (but that was only because life got in the way for a few hours!). A few vinos loosens the tongue and gives Janey a false sense of security and friendship and so she shares a very big personal secret with her new neighbor in an attempt to fit in. This book will keep you hooked because you want to know what the secret is too... so good.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and of course KL Slater

4 solid stars!

Yooooooo...I am shocked at how much I enjoyed this book. I literally read it in one day.

Because this book got under my skin.

I read this during the Coronavirus pandemic so there's not a whole lot I could do other than read. BUT, I found that when I took a break to go to a quick workout on my porch, I couldn't stop thinking about this book, and couldn't wait to get back to it.

I was shocked.

So I did a quick workout, then hopped back on the couch to keep reading. Then dinnertime came and I had to take a resentful break to make dinner, then went right back to reading. I couldn't stop thinking about this book until I finished it.

And I was not disappointed with the ending. Which I find is often the case with psychological thrillers.

No folks, this ending was a good one.

This is a story about a family, going through some tough times: money issues, debt, marriage problems and a recent family death. The main character's (the wife) mother passes away, leaving her the burden of this awful, family secret right before she dies. In the midst of all of this, the husband gets offered this amazing job with a huge pay-raise and they move to a posh part of town in hopes that this will be the new beginning they desperately need.

Wifey befriends some of the wives on the block and husband is upset about it, but he's always working so she needs the companionship. Things are not as they appear, and you spend the entire book trying to figure out what is happening.

It's really good.

It gave my A Simple Favor vibes, except I hated that book and this was soooooOOOoooOOOoo much better.

This book was so perfect and exactly what I needed: to totally escape the Coronavirus panic and get lost in a book.

Highly recommend!

A big thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC and wanting my honest opinion!

Needless to say this author has outdone herself again. She is one of my favorites and there is definitely a reason why. I just can’t get enough of her and her books. I must read them all.

This book was about a woman who had a dark upbringing that if it got out could ruin her and her family. Janey moved into a posh neighborhood where secrets don’t stay secrets for long. Everyone has an agenda and will use your deep dark past against you for their gain. Don’t trust anyone especially the ones closest to you.

I have to say that I read most of K.L. Slater books and loved them all. This one was no exception. It had everything you want. A secret past, a child in danger, a husband who can’t be trusted and a banging great twist of an ending. This whole book worked so well for me. The characters were great, the plot was awesome and it had a roller coaster ride and an ending. I just loved every part of this book and couldn’t get enough. I stayed up all night to finish the book and boy was it worth the lack of sleep the next day. My only wish is that this author keeps these great books coming in the future.

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I loved it. Absolutely LOVED it. I was gripped from page 1 and that grip never slackened throughout the whole of the book.. Janey, the main character, becomes involved with a new set of friends having moved to an upmarket neighbourhood with her husband, Isaac and 8 year old son Rowan. Right from the off I had reservations about the integrity of these friends. Each one seemed to be a little bit suspect to me and I was almost shouting out to Janey not to trust them, not to believe all she thought to be true. Even Janey's slightly eccentric neighbour and who wasn't part of the group of friends seemed to have her own secrets. Was she just a good neighbour trying to warn Janey or a meddling person intent on spoiling things for her? There were so many questions, doubts and concerns about all of these people and then, added to that, Janey's husband was also acting very oddly. He had his own huge secret that, despite her questions to him, he would not reveal. It was all edge of the seat stuff and, like all of K. L. Slater's books, this was a fast read with a satisfying and surprising conclusion. I can't wait for her next book. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

ARG ! i was so disappointed with the finale of the book. It had a great lead up and when it was wrapping up it let me down SO hard. Oh so hard. I read the whole book in a day but when it got really good it just ... there are not words to explain it. The story in-between would have been a better book. I am sorry for the honesty but that is how i feel.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for ARC.

LOVED LOVED LOVED This book! It reminded me of desperate house wives. Very intriguing, , dramatic and malicious. It had the right amount of all of it! This is a must read!

That was a wild ride! This is my first KL Slater novel, so I honestly didn’t know what to expect. Would the writing be intriguing? Would I like the characters and setting? Was the dialogue good? Luckily, this book was totally up my alley and I read it as often as my scheduled allowed! The opening drew me in completely. Big secret? Posh neighborhood? Housewife drama? Okay yes, count me in! This book had so many twists and turns, unlikeable characters, and D-R-A-M-A.
My only reason for giving this 4 instead of 5 stars is that although I was super into the story, for the first third or so of the book there were several plot lines happening at once and I wasn’t entirely sure for which one the book was truly centered on. But do not let that keep you from reading this book! I never had a moment of boredom, and I read the second half of the book in one day - I could not stop. Definitely recommend this one for fans of thrillers! I’ll look forward to reading more from this author.

K.L. Slater's latest novel is a mix of domestic drama and thriller with no one quite being who they seem and secrets being kept with far reaching consequences.

When Janey's husband starts a new job the family move into a bigger house in a smarter neighbourhood in a new town. Dropping her son at his new school, Janey meets some of her neighbours, well dressed women who she feels are out of her class, but seem eager to befriend her. While she is settling in to her new house, social life and a new job, she is concerned that something is wrong with her husband Isaac who is working longer and longer hours and is stressed and worried. She's also still getting over the death of her mother a few months ago and the terrible secret her mother told her just before she died.

This novel is slowly addictive as you want to find out if Janey's neighbours are really all they seem to be, what Isaac is hiding from her and what terrible secret her mother kept until she was dying. The plot moves along at a good pace and the stunning climax clicked all the pieces very believably into place.

Note to author/editor: I think there might be an error in the date of the newspaper article given as 'The Post, 22 December 2002' (loc 4437, 92%). Susan Marsh's age is given as 18 at the time of her abduction but when Janey meets her she is 47. Janey also states her own age as 8 at the time of Susan's abduction which would make her around 26 (in 2020). Since Janey has an 8 year old son she would have been 18 or younger when he was born but her backstory of college, working and being married for a couple of years before having Rowan suggests she was older.

I adore Slater's books! This one was like if the Mean Girls grew up to be The Real Housewives of Anywhere and piled on more secrets, lies, deceit, betrayal, jealousy, and blackmail. Enough said. Janey and husband Isaac move with son Rowan to an upscale part of town after Isaac is offered an amazing opportunity with a new company which means a healthy income and a nice house. But Janey encounters problems as she attempts to befriend the other mothers in her neighborhood as they appear to be much more fashion-conscious and upscale than she is. Soon she finds her niche and things appear to be going well, but a huge secret from Janey's past--a deathbed confession from her mother--haunts her; and of course, we the readers are desperate to know how this fits in. All is finally revealed and the pieces fall into place leaving us with a satisfying end. On to more of Slater's novels!

Wow, K L Slater can certainly spin a gripping story. This is unputdownable and kept me completely hooked. Great story and great characters. Excellent psychological thriller, you really won't guess what is really going on.

Janey and her husband, Isaac, have always struggled with debt and can never get ahead. Suddenly, Isaac comes home and tells Janey he’s got a job opportunity that will move them on up. When they move to the posh new town Janey is befriended by Tanya and her clique. Tanya and Janey become close and Janey drunkenly tells her a family secret in confidence. Isaac is always working and Janey is trying to figure out what is going on. Soon it becomes clear everyone has secrets. Some a little worse than others.
I struggled with this book from the beginning. It was a slow start and picked up in places here and there but overall it was just a little too blah. I wouldn’t call this a psychological thriller, more of a mystery and suspense novel.

This one was a little slow to start, but Slater did a good job of weaving some of the more suspenseful aspects in to keep you interested early on.

Janey starts to enjoy her new lavish lifestyle in the upscale neighborhood that her husband’s new job has recently afforded them. As Janey’s secret past collides with the seemingly perfect lives of her new friends Tanya, Edie, and Ky, what other secrets will reveal themselves?

Once I hit about the 2/3rd mark on this one, I couldn’t stop reading. I would read more of Slater’s work in the future.

Janey moves to a desirable part of town and over a bottle of fizz, spills her secret to her new friend.
This book started out pretty slow for me but when it started to pick up, it REALLY picked up!! I couldn’t put it down! The end surprised me more than anything, I didn’t expect the secret to be something so wild! Highly recommend!!

Janey and her family move to a ritzy neighbourhood because of her husband’s new job. She quickly finds herself a part of a clique-ish group of mothers on the street. But Janey has a secret. And one night, after one too many glasses of bubbles (I feel you, girl), she divulges that secret to one of the other mothers, Tanya. •

If only that was Janey’s biggest concern. •

The next day, Janey sees Tanya’s adolescent daughter with two older men in some sort of an altercation by a car. A body is found later and Janey is positive it’s one of the men and the same car. Janey is sure Tanya will want to know, so she can protect her daughter. Instead, Tanya is dismissive and threatens to expose Janey’s secret if she doesn’t move on. If that isn’t friendship bracelet material, I don’t know what is ...•

Janey needs to decide what is more important. Protecting her own past or someone else’s future.•

This book was good, but not great. It definitely wasn’t in the “gripping psychological thriller that you can’t put down” category. It took a long time to get ramp up and I was bored in between.
Throughout the story it is obvious that Janey has a secret. And that the secret was big. But once it was unveiled, it was just kind of over. I wanted more. It was a bit lack lustre for me. •

I am a big fan of KL Slater, having read and enjoyed all of her books. She is an author that I will never hesitate to read or recommend. Little Whispers is a twisty domestic thriller that will keep you guessing right until the very end. It is a book that I read quickly, caught up in what was happening

Janey is excited when her husband is offered a new job with a substantial pay increase. They move to a new, flash home in Buckinghamshire Crescent. At first she struggles to fit in with the clique of school mums, but she soon becomes friendly with Tanya down the road. Soon she feels better about herself than she has in years, and her confidence is high. One afternoon after a few glasses of wine she confides a family secret to Tanya. But nothing is as it seems on this street, and nobody is who they seem. Be careful who you trust.

Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

I really enjoy KL Slater’s books. They are quick and easy to read. This book was no exception. For me, I am not sure if it was a thriller or more of a mystery.

After a slow start I really enjoyed Little Whispers and couldn't put it down. The ordinariness of Janey's life at first felt a little dull to read, but it's what makes the story so gripping as she gets drawn into the the awful friendship group that is the Buckingham mums. The book starts with a secret that Janey's mother tells her, and the reader is the last to find out what happened all those years ago. That makes for a page turner of a plot. There's also a cast of untrustworthy characters, a murder investigation, and a sinister sub plot. Overall another great psychological thriller from KL Slater,

As I said before, K L Slater never disappoints!

A story with many undertones that unravel in a rather timely fashion...

Janey and her husband, Isaac, (and their son, Rowan) move to an upscale neighborhood due to a job change for Isaac. Strange reactions by the family to the new place unfurl. For some reason Isaac warns Janey not to get too involved with the neighbors. Yet, it seems as if they (snooty, though!) accept Janey and her son Rowan. Isaac is constantly at work despite his assurance that he would spend more family time with his wife and son.

Add in a box from Janey's late mom that just sits there - unopened - and the story really takes off!

A wonderful read by a super author!'

Many Thanks to both the Publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read and review this book!
