I have rounded this up from 3 1/2 stars to 4. I nearly gave up on this book a few times as I thought that a lot f the characters were very shallow. I am glad that I persevered. The ending was not what I was expecting and made the book a 4 star read.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

The Perfect Couple is another brilliant book from Lisa Hall that drew me in from the start, filled me with an air of trepidation throughout and left me gobsmacked at the end. Lisa Hall's imagination seems to know no bounds as she constantly comes up with amazing unique plots that shock and surprise the reader.

Newlyweds, Rupert and Emily are the perfect couple, or should that be Rupert and Caro? All of Rupert's friends tell Emily that Caro and Rupert were the perfect couple and they were all left shocked and distraught after Caro's sudden death. After a whirlwind romance, Emily transforms Cinderella-style from housekeeper to lady of the manor but there's trouble in paradise when Emily feels like someone is watching her and she receives disturbing threats. While Emily tries to work out who is threatening her, and she has a few suspects, she starts to wonder what really happened to Caro and begins to put the pieces of the jigsaw together.

So many alarm bells were going off in my head when I was reading The Perfect Couple. I'm not going to say what they were as it would spoil the plot but I was constantly questioning the motives of the characters. Some characters make decisions that seem strange and unbelievable when you consider their history but it all makes sense in the end. All of my 'why would she...' and 'why did he...' questions were answered with a big 'OH I SEE', because I totally didn't see at the time due to Lisa Hall being the Mistress of Deception.

Gripping, intriguing and twisty, The Perfect Couple is a stunning psychological / domestic noir thriller. Lisa Hall is absolutely on fire and long may it continue as her books are guaranteed page-turners and The Perfect Couple is no exception. Keep 'em coming, Lisa!

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

loved The perfect Couple. It had me hooked from the start. I couldn't put it down, I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next. The characters were believable and the pace of the story was perfect. I've only read one Lisa Hall book before and I absolutely loved it, this was another fantastic read from her. I highly recommend Lisa's books.

Now if you're after a book jam packed with twists and turns.... this is the one for you!

I'll be honest, I did struggle to start with as it took me a while to get to grips with all the characters.. who's who, who's married to who, who's related to who... but once I had I was totally invested.

Personally I don't read an awful lot of Domestic Thrillers as I find them all a bit 'samey' but Lisa Hall blew me away. A totally original storyline stuffed the the brim with scandal, secrets, lies, deceit and a huge double whammy ending!!!!

The characters are strong (even the ones I didn't like) and all hold their own place within the story, the plot is thick with tension and the ending was epic... what more could you possibly want?

Massive thanks to netgalley and HQ for the ARC.

A strong 4*

I have read a few of Lisa's books now and I thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them. I read the synopsis for 'The Perfect Couple' and it certainly appealed to me. So without further ado, I settled down and began to read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Perfect Couple' but more about that in a bit.

I can honestly say that I didn't take to any of the characters in this book. There was something about each of the characters that set alarm bells ringing for me. Nobody seemed to be the person that they were making themselves out to be and it certainly seemed as though they each had their own secrets to hide that they didn't want revealing. I am naturally suspicious of everybody and everything. Rupert as a character was intriguing but I did wonder if the image he was trying to portray of himself was a bit too good to be true. I was convinced that underneath his calm exterior, he was a different person. Emily was also interesting but she gave me the heebie jeebies a bit too. She gets a job as housekeeper for Rupert and she becomes a tad obsessed by him and his house. I mean within the first couple of weeks of being his housekeeper, she is rooting around in the wardrobes and drawers to find out more about Rupert and his late wife. She even seems to want to try his dead wife's clothing on which was a bit odd to me. I had both Rupert and Emily marked down as strange and they both made me feel uneasy but for different reasons.

Wowzers, was 'The Perfect Couple' an amazing read or what? I first picked the book up only intending to make a start on the story and get a feel for the different characters. I became so wrapped up in the story that I read a lot more than a couple of chapters- more like a dozen chapters. This was one of those books that I read within a single day because I couldn't put it down. The plot appealed to me and I had my own theory as to what was going to happen, so of course I had to keep reading. The pages turned so quickly that it was almost as if they had taken on a life of heir own and that they were turning themselves. All too quickly I reached the end of the story and I had to say goodbye to Rupert and Emily (and put as much distance between me and them as possible).

'The Perfect Couple' is superbly written but then I think that to be true of Lisa's books in general. She has a way of grabbing your attention, drawing you into the story and then she keeps you on your toes, in that she keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fairly fast pace throughout. This was one of those plots that you couldn't guess what was going to happen. There were more twists and turns to this story than you would find on a 'Snakes & Ladders' board. Just when you thought that you knew what was going to happen, then along a came a curve ball which sends you down another path entirely. I found 'The Perfect Couple' to be a gripping read from start to finish and I was on the edge of my seat throughout.

In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Perfect Couple' and I would definitely recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Lisa's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board can only be 5* out of 5*

This isn’t the first of Lisa’s books I have read & it certainly won’t be the last. I could not put it down. It’s full of suspense, it’s gripping and thrilling & I was gutted when it was over. It’s so fast paced and I had so many theories how this was going to end and I wasn’t right at all. If you want a book that keeps you on your toes this is it!

A twisty psychological thriller that will get you hooked right from the start.

Emily is struggling to find a job after splitting from her controlling boyfriend. She sees an advert for a housekeeper and sends in her application. The job is hers and she suddenly finds herself the housekeeper of a gorgeous house where widower, Rupert lives.

After the loss of his wife Rupert has struggled to look after himself and his house so Emily sets to work to tidy and run the house for him. Soon sparks are flying between the two and Rupert invites Emily to stay for dinner, and it is the start of a budding relationship.

There is one problem though, Rupert is very reluctant to talk about his deceased wife and Emily is kept in the dark about how she died. Through meeting Rupert’s friends Emily starts to uncover little bits of information but she is also struggling day to day as she feels as though someone is watching her. Suddenly weird things start to happen and Emily is convinced someone is out to get her. Who is it ? And is it linked to Rupert’s first wife ?

This is a great psychological thriller with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout. This one will have you hooked from the start and I don think anyone would guess that ending !!

Thank you to HQ and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.

This was such a gripping read full of suspense. I couldn't put it down!
So many theories ran through my mind whilst reading. How was it going to end? I wasn't correct at all!

I love Lisa Hall's books and this one didn't disappoint.

Rupert is a grieving widow who has let things go by the wayside, Emily is in search of a new job and sees Rupert's advert for a housekeeper.

Their relationship blossoms and things are looking good until unexpected things start happening leading Emily to believe that Rupert's wife is actually very much alive.

The twists and turns in this book are just amazing and that ending, oh my word, that was EPIC. I absolutely didn't see that coming.

The Perfect Couple is another winner from Lisa Hall and is fast becoming one of my favourite authors.
The chapters are alternated between Emily and Rupert. Emily who has just left an abusive relationship and is living in a flat share applies for a job as a house keeper in a large manor that belongs to Rupert. Rupert is getting over the death of his wife, Caro. Emily enjoys working for Rupert and finds herself falling for him, very quickly they are married and everything is bliss until strange things start to happen to Emily making her out to be mad. Who is doing these things and who doesn’t want her to be happy?
This was a really good psychological thriller and the ending was THE best!!

Another average domestic thriller...

I've read quite a few domestic thrillers and this one was just okay. It wasn't particularly original or different.

The writing was fine. It was pretty average. Although I was interested enough to read till the end

I would say this thriller is probably more suited to people who haven't read a lot of thrillers before.

There wasn't many shocks or twists and it was quite obvious to me where the story was going.

I didn't really care for any of the characters. None of them were particularly likeable.

It was a pretty quick and easy book to read. Although, there were some dark and distressing parts.

One thing I did like about this book was that in parts there was some pretty tense and suspenseful parts.

Overall, this was just an okay domestic thriller, nothing particularly special

TW: gaslighting, domestic abuse, suicide references, bipolar, murder, animal violence and violence

I have read and enjoyed all of Lisa Hall’s previous books and this was no exception. A tense thriller which had some great twists to keep me guessing throughout. Looking forward to her next book. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

I enjoyed this story, it was an easy read and moved along at a good pace. I didn’t like either Rupert or Emily very much, I found him quite wooden, clearly uncomfortable about something; while Emily appeared to want to make an issue of everything. She came across as somewhat hysterical, to me anyway, although as the story progresses you do start to wonder whether it is a front - the way she drops her friend Mags when she moves in with Rupert is not the action of a pleasant person.

There are twists aplenty, and a sting in the tail at the end. There are clues to the truth if you notice them, but the author has been clever in the way she deflects your thoughts. However, by the end of the story I was really hoping that both Rupert and Emily would get what they deserve. It is a shame that only one of them does.

This was the first Lisa Hall novel I've read, and I was gripped from the beginning. Vivid characterisation and great scene setting combined to keep me turning the pages until I finished it, in less than twenty four hours! Emily and Rupert are both great narrators who keep the reader on their toes, and although I got the sense of what one twist would be, I didn't see the end coming at all! Great stuff, and I'll certainly be reading more from Lisa Hall.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this great novel.

This book had so much promise but I felt I let down. The story was long drawn out but I did not see that twist at the end. 2 stars

I am a huge fan of Lisa Hall, having loved her previous novels The Party and Between You and Me.
The Perfect Couple was very easy to read, I finished it in one day. The chapters weren't too long and the writing flow was pacey and dramatic. I can honestly say I didn't guess the ending which is always a pleasant surprise, as an avid thriller reader, that doesn't happen often!
I have chosen to give this book 4 rather than 5 stars only because I thought some of the plot twists and characters to throw the reader off the scent and to keep you guessing were a little frustrating - take Annas creepy flat mate Mags - the character was developed and intriguing, but in the end totally irrelevant?

All in all, a thouroughly enjoyable, gripping and well written thriller that I would definitely recommend to fellow fans of Lisa Hall. I can't wait for the next one!
