I felt this story tried to do so much and cram so many tropes, plotlines and anecdotes that it just fell flat for me.

The story starts off well enough, with Winifred moving into a flat with Ainsley. Ainsley is besties with Daniel who just happens to work at the same hospital as Winifred and so the romance begins.

I enjoyed the tone of the story. It's light-hearted, flirty and sweet. But, as mentioned above, too many things were crammed into this story. There's the age-gap, then Winifred so-called complex relationship with her mother, then Daniel's dyslezia and Kyle's autism, which felt like it was thrown in as an afterthought, then the relationship having to fight against "all odds". By the time I reached about 70% of the story, it just completely bombed because then the juvenile and completely ridiculous wager occurred. That was left field and just did not fit in with the story. After that with the way in which the town became involved was absolutely cringe-worthy and I almost DNF'd it at that point.

I did make it to the end however which unfortunately was another let down because it ended with a milestone which that crushed any little credibility that the wager possessed and was just completely unrealistic.

Because this story was trying to do too much and just trying too hard, everything just seemed surface level and nothing was explored in-depth making it all unbelievable.

This was super cute, relationship focused romance read.
No explicit scenes, just really pure fluff and watching these two main characters get to know, accept and love each other.

I loved how this focused solely on how their relationship developed and how their relations with family members and friends with others impacted their decision about their relationship.

It did kind of feel insta-lovey, but that could be due to the fact that the story skips weeks at a time to focus on key part of their relationship to progress the story.

Overall it's a book that put a smile on my face and I'll definitely be getting to the second one.

This lighthearted romance was so entertaining. After bumping into Winnie at work Daniel is besotted and attempts to win her over so he can take her out on a date. Winnie is older than Daniel and although is attracted to him does not think that there could be more than friendship due to the age difference. The other problem is that Winnie is the daughter of Daniels boss and she has made it clear to Winnie that Daniel is not good enough.
The family relationships in this book was fantastic and it was nice to see some representation of dyslexia and autism but would have loved to have seen more of this.
I was often laughing out loud with the banter between not only Daniel and Winnie but also Daniel and his brother Kyle. I look forward to reading the story of Kyle and Daniel's best friend Ainsley

I absolutely loved this book. It was a cute, mushy Rom-Com & a medical romance with Daniel Durand who is a resident doctor & Winifred Baker (Winnie) who is a Nurse/ Midwife at the same hospital. I liked that the medical parts were not too overly done which would make it confusing for non medicos & not quite underdone with the hospital used just as a location for the romance. There were certain parts focused just on their work at the hospital which I liked.
.
There were also characters with disabilities which were represented well in the book. Daniel is dyslexic & Kyle his brother is Autistic. It was shown how they go through their day to day life with these & that this is just an aspect of their personality & that having these disabilities doesnt make them any less intelligent than others which I loved reading about.
.
Another thing that I loved were the interactions between all the charachters. The chemistry & witty banter between Daniel & Winnie was perfect & the banter & Daniel's antics had me laughing at everytime. I loved Daniel's interactions with his family & how open & accepting of each other they were.
.
The Marvel references were definitely the cherry on the cake.๐Ÿ˜
Had a ear to ear smile on my face by the time I reached the end. I would definitely recommend this book if you love rom-coms or medical romances & if you are looking for a light comfy read this is the perfect book for you.โค

Could Be Something Good is a short but funny modern romance. I laughed along with the characters and cheered them on to their happy ending. This novel is PG, with nothing beyond kissing, so feel free to read then share with your younger friends!

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review!

things I enjoyed:
x older woman, younger guy
x dyslexia representation
x fast and intense romance
x complex mother-daughter relationship

things I didn't like as much:
x too many side characters that stole the show
x the relationship moved too fast overall for my liking

this romance was fun and exactly what I needed at this moment! I flew through it and read it in two sittings. I had a lot of fun reading about medical professions, especially Winnie's, about the not-so-great relationship betwen her and her mother and the loving and caring relationship between Daniel and his family. overall I had a lot of fun reading this book and it put me in the mood to read more and this is always a good thing! (:

He younger then her and age does play a role in this story. There's humor which will make you smile a lot.********I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. *********************

Where to even start with this book? I believe this book could be good based on the story line; however, there were so many unbelievable events in this book that it made it a little too dramatized for my taste.

Dr. Daniel Durand is the 3rd doctor in his family following his father and his older brother, Kyle. Daniel also appears to be jokester of the family and Kyle called him "shallow" in all things - his clothing, his women, etc. Early in the book he meets Winnie, a nurse mid-wife who is ~10 years older than him. She also happens to be the daughter of the doctor he currently reports to in his residency. Her mom (Dr. Baker) makes Winnie feel like a failure because she has failed the MCAT multiple times (which we later learn that she failed it on purpose because she doesn't want to attend medical school).

Daniel takes one look at her and decides he has to have her immediately. She wants no part in that for several reasons, but one of the biggest is their age gap. Everyone she encounters seems to make the "cougar" jokes and other crude comments about her robbing the cradle. Winnie's mom (Dr. Baker) even notices that Daniel is sweet on Winnie and she warns him against pursuing anything with Winnie as it will take away his focus from his residency. In his declaration of love for Winnie,

Dr. Baker goes to see Winnie later and they end up making a bet that Daniel is only interested in her for sex. Since he is so shallow (apparently he has a real reputation for that), he will drop her like a hot potato once he grows tired of her. If Winnie & Daniel can go eight weeks without sex, then the mom will give her blessing for them to date. WTH?

After Winnie tells Daniel of the bet, he is livid. He decides to confront Dr. Baker in the cafeteria. Dr. Baker proceeds to speak very loudly so all the cafeteria customers can hear and recounts the bet - now the entire town knows about the crazy bet between Winnie and her mom. Daniel basically shouts it in the cafeteria that he loves Dr. Baker's daughter - in front of everyone. There's one problem with this - he hasn't even told Winnie he loves her yet and now he has just announced it to the world. The entire town begins to put yard signs in their yards indicating if they are for "Team Daniel" or "Team Dr. Baker". Again, WTH?

Right after the 8 week period, Daniel proposes to Winnie in the hospital in front of everyone. Without his shirt on because a patient had just thrown up on him.

There are so many bizarre facts with this book - what town is going to put up signs for "Team Daniel" or "Team Dr. Baker"? Who will make a bet like that with their mother? Who fails the MCAT MULTIPLE times on purpose? This book seemed a little juvenile for my taste.

I was provided this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated above are mine without biases.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for providing me with an eARC of this book for an honest review. As always, all opinions are my own.

This book follows Winnie, a thirty-one-year-old midwife and Daniel, a twenty-something resident, both working at a rural hospital. For Daniel, meeting Winnie is love at first sight. For Winnie, however, the feeling is not mutual. At least, not really. But when Winnie needs a date to her mentor's wedding, she decides to bite the bullet and invite Daniel, mostly in an effort to stave off her ex who will be there. As feelings begin to develop, Winnie and Daniel have to deal with Winnie's overprotective mother who seems to think Daniel isn't ready to settle down. They have to decide whether they will make it work, or prove her mother right.

So on the surface, this book sounds really interesting. I'm always down for a romance and I love a good medical/hospital setting, however, there was a lot about the execution of this book that just didn't work for me. Daniel was all in from day one and Winnie took longer to come around but I felt like there was very little chemistry beyond Daniel's attraction developed between the two characters. There was no real sense of time but they were jumping into the "I love yous" pretty quickly for the minimal development we got.

The writing itself wasn't terrible but I had a hard time following the story. There were a lot of subplots going on and setting up things for sequels but I just couldn't seem to grasp the main storyline. Because of this, it felt a little bit like there wasn't a lot of direction for the story and where the characters were going. And don't even get me started on the ending - I had a hard enough time getting on board with what I thought was the beginnings of their relationship.

Overall, I'm sure this book will appeal to many readers, however, I don't think I was one of those.

Young Dr. Daniel Durand was currently doing his residency at Timber Falls Hospital when he saw Winnie Baker for first time, and from that moment he knew that there was something special about her. Too bad Winnie didn't seem to think the same...

Daniel is a young doctor of 24 years doing his residency in the hospital of his small hometown. With an easy going personality, charm and a meddle family her life is the complete opposite of Winnie. She's in her 30s and recently moved to Timber Falls. A straightforward, no-nonsense and kinda grumpy midwife a little unsure about starting a relationship with someone younger. Add to that that Daniel is under the orders of Winnie's mother, a whole town meddling in their relationship and rooting for them because of a bet, lots of banter, pop culture references and cheesy medical metaphors and you have a cute and easy to read rom-com!

I think my favorite part of this book was the use of common tropes, such as the age gap and the grumpy-sunshine dynamic, but reversed. It gave something fresh and new to these kinds of stories. Also, the romance was pretty cute. At some point it is mentioned that Daniel has a certain reputation, but from the moment he looks at Winnie he's 100% devoted to her, and little by little you can see how the relationship is growing, going from an attraction to something else. AND THAT EPILOGUE! Seriously, that kind of content is all I ask for at the end of a book.

Now why not 5 stars. Because from the first chapter two characters were introduced that caught my attention, Kyle and Ainsley, and from what I saw they're gonna serve one of my favorite tropes, so yeah, I'm excited about that and it took my focus off the main couple a bit. And also the fact that her mentor's wedding seemed to be an important thing but it didn't take more than one chapter, although it did help the relationship, so that threw me off a little.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one in this series! It was a light, cute and fun contemporary romance.

Dr. Daniel Durand was currently doing his residency in Timber Falls Hospital. He came from a family of doctors and he was the third one to finish. His father was the first Durand, then his younger brother Kyle, then him. Their older brother Philip was also into the medical field but he was a Physical Therapist.

Daniel met Winnie at their โ€œfirst brush offโ€ and he immediately liked her. Winnie Baker is the daughter of Danielโ€™s attending physicianโ€”the physician he didnโ€™t really see eye to eye. Their story started because of a wedding that Winnie had to go through with a date and things spiraled from there.

I love this book. It was such a fun read because of the banters, the references, and the medical metaphors that were used between the two main characters. I love how it wasnโ€™t dragging and that every chapter something significant to the story happens. It was a fast read for me because the story got me really hooked and i just wanted to keep reading and finish it immediately.

Highly recommended for readers who are into romance, banters, small-town romance, and family love. Also, i was lucky enough to read the epilogue that the author sent and it was the perfect ending for this book! Iโ€™m looking forward to Kyle and Ainsleyโ€™s story (book 2)! ๐ŸคŽ

Could Be Something Good by Fiona West
Rating: 2/5

I went into this book with such high hopes - from the description this sounded like the perfect workplace romance, but sadly this fell way short for me. The characters didn't have a ton of depth and their romance felt extremely rushed and disingenuous. Many of the major plot points brought up in the book description were barely elaborated upon - for example, her mentor's big wedding!

I did love the minor characters that made up Daniel's family, but some of the plot lines with Winnie's mom felt way too extreme.

Overall, this one left much more to be desired.

Wow! I really loved this book, I was instantly attracted to it due to the age difference in the lover. Especially with the woman being older, that never happens in any book I have ever read. Despite it being something that isn't often seen, it was very easy to read through and not at all cringey. I really enjoyed the ups and downs of a relationship of different ages and how they constantly showed that women can be older and still beautiful. This book was everything I didn't know I needed.

General info
Daniel is intrigued by Winnie the first time he sees her. Winnie isn't interested at first. She has a bad break up behind her and her mothers stupid expectations constantly upon her. Additionally, Daniel is a little younger than she is. It could not end up in anything good, right?

Things I liked
Once again, Fiona West does it. This is a light, joyful read even though it deals with some everyday issues, for example how dyslexia is treated in life. The characters are complex and interesting. They all have their own issues, but they also come through strongly and happier.

Conclusion
There is nothing I did not like in this book. It is a great, quick and joyful read and I can't wait to travel back to Timber Falls and read the next story in the series.

Review English/ French :

I really liked this novel, it's different from what I usually read.
Here, it's the female character who is older than the male character.
I loved that Winnie rebelled and chose her own path.
A lot of the scenes are cute, especially when Winnie's ex intervenes and Daniel marks his territory.
The pop culture references in the novel are just great.
There's a very nice dynamic throughout the novel. It's well paced; there are no big twists and turns, but the actions in the novel are not bad.
If you're French-speaking like me, there's no particular difficulty when you read it. The vocabulary is not too complicated and the writing is fluid.
The end of the novel is very beautiful, and the author promises us a new romance, but this time with Daniel's brother and Winnie's roommate.

-------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately , I couldn't finish this book .
I didn't care about the characters and the plot was so weak .
I was bored from the first pages .

Winnie is a midwife and Daniel is a resident. Daniel is attracted to Winnie immediately, but because of their age difference, Winnie resists his advances. Daniel is 24 yrs old, and Winnie is in her 30's. Winnie is abrupt and no-nonsense, whereas Daniel is more of a free spirit with a little bit of rakish reputation. However, once he sets his sights on Winnie, he is 100% devoted to her.

Winnie's mom wants her to be a doctor, but she's happy as a midwife. Winnie's father died at a young age, but Daniel has a large, fun family. Daniel has both dysgraphia and dyslexia, and this comes up a few times in the book. It's never a secret and is always addressed in a respectful way.

Daniel really works hard to win Winnie over. This is a slow burn, with the whole town eventually is rooting for them to be together. There is definitely a case of Instant-love on the part of Daniel, but Winnie is very insecure about their age difference.

I loved Daniel. He has a man bun and is super fashion savvy. He was charming and respectful. He was goal driven and tenacious. He was a very caring doctor, and some of the best parts were seeing he and Winnie interacting with patients. Winnie took a lot longer to warm up to. She's hesitant and bristly, and all around less likable, but only because she fights so hard against liking Daniel. However, as she opens up and allows herself to be with Daniel and be honest with her mom, she becomes more relaxed and likable.

The epilogue was so sweet!!!!

We meet quite a few side characters that I look forward to reading books about as well.

4 star Review Could Be Something Good by Fiona West
Fiona West is a new author to me. I found this to be sweet, romantic story about Dr. Daniel Durand and the woman he falls for on first sight Winnie Baker. Set in Timber Falls Oregon, I enjoy stories set in small towns and it was a quick read.
Winnie is older than Daniel and at times came across a lot older than she really was, which was at times a tad frustrating. However there was some humorous moments as meddling relatives got involved and I found myself smiling.
This is a story about being comfortable in your own skin and above all being accepted for the choices one makes. The chemistry between Daniel and Winnie was definitely there and I liked the support that Daniel offered to Winnie.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

4,25 Star Read!

Thank you to Net Galley and Fiona West for allowing me to read and review this book!

I'm a new Fiona West fan! Did you get that? This was my first book from her and I'm already in love!

Dr. Daniel Durand has just started his residency and while that's all fun and games, he can't get his mind off of Winnie Baker, one of the nurse/midwife's at the hospital. She might think that they shouldn't be together, but he's got different plans. He's going to crash her barriers and show her just how amazing they could be. It might involve taking her to weddings and convincing her stern mother, but it'll be worth it!

This is a total rom-com in all of its best ways! We get fake dates, bets and so much love. This is a small town romance, and the town and supporting character were amazing. And can we just take a minute to talk about the couple? They were so great, a bunch of angst, love at first sight, age difference and RESPECT. It was so great to see them flourish into such an amazing pair, growing each step of the way. I also loved everything involving the hospital and their jobs, I just couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Oh, and the family dramas, loved it! The writing left me hanging at some point (but only minor things) and the story could've been a little bit deeper. But it was such great fun and I finished it in one sitting.

Can't wait to get my hands on the next ones (mainly the one about Kyle and Ainsley) and enjoy a chill and fun read!

Disclaimer: Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC copy to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing style was easy to follow along with and the characters were interesting. This was a quick read for me, I loved watching Daniel try to get the girl. Winnie was a very strong heroine who was a tough cookie to crack. I do feel like the beginning of the story was a bit too slow for me but towards the middle the story it definitely picked up it's pace. Daniel and Winnie were so cute together, it was really refreshing to read about the heroine being older than the hero. I feel like most romance books don't have that trope so it was really interesting to read about. I liked watching the main characters interact with their family. Winnieโ€™s relationship with her grandfather was adorable. I liked how the characters bonded over superheroes, I thought that was really sweet. I also liked that Daniel was dyslexia because it was nice to see the disability representation. I wish that we had gotten more depth on the characters, I feel like we barely got to know them which hindered my enjoyment of the book. I also didn't like that Winnieโ€™s mother was so controlling and that the town seemed so invested in Daniel and Winnies Love life. Although her motherโ€™s character does improve in the end I feel like that character development was too fast and it was a little bit unbelievable. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next book in this series. I would definitely recommend this to someone who is looking for a light funny contemporary romance.
