A complex intertwined mystery that had me guessing right to the end. An array of interesting characters that each had their own story, developing through the book as the whole sorry saga was revealed. A nice family of four temporarily move into a flat in Hampstead while their own house is undergoing renovation. The father, Roan a psychotherapist works hard and is often preoccupied with his cases while the mother Cate stays home looking out for their teenage children. Their new lives which showed such promise and excitement are soon made uncomfortable by sex attacks in the local area and some disturbing events seem too close to home. This book is a slow burner but never boring, as each chapter brings further revelations that has the reader rooting for some characters, despising others and sympathising with many. A well written story, told from several angles that eventually all make sense. I look forward to reading more from this clever author.

Lisa Jewell is an amazing author and this book adds to her wonderful repertoire. The story is classic - rape, adultery, teenage and family issues, sexual attacks and feminine insecurity. It covered so much in story where the situations and people are so believable. The story evolves in the format of being told by the main actors leaving the reader to piece it all together. I felt so sorry for Owen throughout the story as it was obvious that he had to snap out of his fugue and live a real life. I felt sad when I reached the ending of the book but each of the last few chapters brought everything so well together. A very pleasing end with all the little unanswered questions being cleared up.
Highly recommend this book and this author..

Lisa Jewell has fast become my go-to author when I want a page-turning, completely absorbing fast read. Invisible Girl does not disappoint. I loved the characters, the twists and turns, how we hear different narratives that give us part of the picture but not all. This is a fast read because it is quite simply unputdownable. The characters jump off the page and the events are edgy, dark yet grounded. Thrillers don't come much better than this.

17 year old Saffyre Maddox lives in a high rise tower block with her Uncle Aaron, the only relative she has left. But what happened to her when she was 10 that makes her wish she was invisible?

Owen Pick is a middle-aged man who fumbles through life. Living with an aunt who thinks he is a waste of space, going under the radar at work, he really thinks he appears invisible to everyone. That is until he is accused of abducting Saffyre Maddox.

Living opposite Owen are the Fours family. But what is their story?

Lisa Jewell has captured the essence of invisibility not only in how her characters feel within themselves, but also how their wider circle of friends and acquaintances perceive them. Her insight into how a person can be judged harshly and unfairly without even knowing their story is astonishing.

This story haunted me right until the last page. I found myself weeping with how Owen really tried to put himself out there to be seen, but in turn frustrated with how gullible this made him. My heart broke over Saffyre's story.

The ending......……….utterly believable and profoundly shocking!

This book makes you think, do you really know people? I loved the pace of this book. The story is told by different characters. It was very well written and very thought provoking. It has it all, secrets, deception, mental health, judgemental people. It held my interest the whole way through.

Wow. Where do I begin? Lisa Jewell has done it again! This is a story of complex, psychologically flawed characters that hold deception, hurt, secrets, revenge and trauma. It is a creepy, uncomfortable, dark and intense thriller set in London - and if you’re into thrillers and mystery, you’re going to love it!

The story examines Saffyre Maddox, who, at 10 years old underwent severe trauma that has haunted her for many years and led her to self harm. She ends up seeing a therapist, Roan Fours, who sees her for a few years but eventually believes she is ‘fixed’ and no longer needs him, so he dismisses her.

In the neighborhood there is also a predator roaming the streets of Hampstead who has been attacking women and ultimately making the whole neighborhood uncomfortable.

On Valentines Day, 17-year-old Saffyre goes missing and the suspension lands on Owen Pick, a quiet and awkward 33-years-old geography teacher who ends up being at the wrong place at the wrong time. He’s a little bit of a weirdo and an oddball, and lives in a house with his aunt opposite Roan Fours (Saffyre’s therapist), his wife Cate, and their two kids Georgia and Joshua....

I won’t get into it too much more but this book has a great pace and I read it in less than a day! I really enjoyed that it opens your eyes up to how delusional society can be and that maybe, just maybe, the real monsters are batently walking among us in broad daylight and those who are innocent are being questioned and punished because they lead a different life than we do that may not be ‘normal’ to us...

Thank you to Random House UK for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

There have been a number of assaults in the area. Then Saffyre Maddox, a young teen with a secret from the past goes missing one night and no one seems to know what happened to her.
I have read Lisa Jewell books before and this one definitely didn’t disappoint. As you read on the book reveals more and more about the characters and their stories. It is full of suspense and plot twists and turns that it had me guessing till the end. It was unputdownable.

The moral of this tale, never judge a book by it's cover and are you prepared for the consequences????
After the first page I was hooked and stayed up all night I HAD TO KNOW THE TRUTH!!!! Twisty in places and just when you think you have it all worked out BANG misdirection. Another great read from this author. Definitely a go to bed early and read this book. A very happy reader.

Another good book from Lisa Jewell. When a young girl goes missing in London everyone jumps to the wrong conclusion about what happened to her. The book tells how people can live closer by without us knowing everyone’s story.

This is one of those 'read it in one sitting' kind of books. From start to finish, you really aren't sure where it's taking you, though the guessing is endless. Written through the voices of multiple participants, as events unfold the pave quickens until you draw to a very satisfying close...and then...

Jewell is excellent at posing questions, at giving her readers more to think about than the obvious 'who dunnit?' As well as the from the 'was it him? or him? or her?' questions, we are asked to question ourselves, the power we have given to gossip and the media and the damage this all does. Every single character in this novel has their flaws, but don't we all? These flaws can be damaging to ourselves or to those around us, but only when taken to extremes can that damage be, in itself, extreme. At what point does the sad and lonely man seeking love become a danger to women? At what point does the traumatised child become a danger to him- or herself? When does the suspicious wife threaten her own sanity or the complacent husband their marriage?

Another great book from Lisa Jewell.

This novel is a page turner of a read and having read an advanced reading copy I’m pushing you to put this on your must- read list, upon its release date, 6th August 2020.
This is a story that shows how we can look at someone and make assumptions that cause a string of events that can change a life and not necessarily for the better.

This is a great piece of writing that goes from one perspective to the other seamlessly depicting events in a timely order of past and present. It is paced perfectly with just enough tension to keep you turning that page. It’s a little twisty in places and just when you think you know what is happening a little curve ball is thrown in.

Great read that has you on the edge of your seat right from the very first page.
A girl has gone missing following sexual attacks on women in a leafy suburb of London.
The police will go to any lengths to arrest a suspect even though it might not be the right one but one that appears to the outside world that it fits the bill.
Deception, lies and long held secrets Keep you guessing who is the real culprit right to the very last page

I never repeat the blurb. Loved this latest book by this sensitive and insightful writer. Great plot, simple yet believable. That's all that we can ask.

An excellent book from Lisa Jewell. I have read other books by the same author and I have never been disappointed.
The story is, for me, a little slow to start but when it does it is a superb read.
A complex interwoven story with 3 main characters covered in alternating chapters and several subordinate characters who are all integrated into the story. Trying not to give too much away, the male 'lead' character manages to invoke both sympathy and dislike which in itself is extremely difficult to achieve.
There are a number of events in the book but the key one is exactly what happened on Valentine's Day night in Hampstead. Given one of the main characters has disappeared you spend much of the book wondering if it is a murder or a hiding away.
The ending is very good and there is a final revelation/question in the last page and a half to make you think.
I have to admit but I was hoping for a very later killer twist but with hindsight this was probably impractical in the storyline.
A book not to be missed
