To be honest I have to confess to not liking all of Radclyffe books. But in my defense, you probably don't like all kinds of pies or cakes right? Love on the Night Shift is set once again in the Rivers Community Hospital and follows Blaise,a nurse and best friend of Abby (who we know from previous books) and the new surgeon Grady. And while the focus is ofcourse on Grady and Blaise and their path to a happily ever after, it is really nice to see more of Abby and Flann, or the kids and their interactions. I enjoyed myself immensely with this one, maybe it was all solved a little too easily at the end, but well...I just wanted to lie in the sun and dream away with nice characters sometimes wishing there would be as many great catches in my hospital like there seem to be at the Rivers.

I'm definitely a fan of the Rivers Community series! It was fun seeing a lot of familiar characters and I enjoyed getting to know the new ones. I'm having a hard time putting my thoughts into words... after finishing the book I wanted to re-read the whole series again. I was left a bit unsettled though...like a tiny bit of a cliff hanger or a to be continued moment. Not sure if that was how it was intended but there's definitely more to explore within this series and with all of these characters. I'm thankful for what we've already experienced within these books and I'm hopeful for more to come... If you haven't read the books before this I highly recommend reading them before this one...

Blaise Richelieu has been living a safe and organized life while raising her teenage daughter and working night shifts in the ER. When the younger attending Grady McClure joined the Rivers and made pursuing Blaise a personal mission, Blaise did not plan on opening up to this attractive stranger. But not everything goes as planned.

There is no doubt that Radclyffe is good with words. Her sentences flowed nicely and the descriptions of the setting and character thoughts were vivid and clear. I like how this book reads like a couple episodes of a very queer "Grey's Anatomy". With all these amazing characters at the Rivers, it would have been wonderful to see the full cast on the small screen.

The plot was soapy and, I must admit, pretty predictable. Though I liked Blaise and Grady as well as enjoyed their interactions, the relationship development was just okay. Also, the pacing was rather erratic. Everything was going steadily before the 80% mark but sped up immensely after that. Despite these, the reading experience was very fun and pleasant.

I adore the teens in "Love in the Night Shift". Their friendship was so beautiful and I loved them showing up in the plot in any sort of combination. All of them were very supportive of each other and understanding of everything. They truly were gems. Petition for a book or two or more on Taylor, Blake, Margie, Dave, and Tim!

"Love in the Night Shift" was my first try on Radclyffe's books, and I enjoyed it. I would totally recommend this book for those craving queer medical fiction and read more of her works in the future.

This was another good installment in the Rivers Community Romance series. I have been really lucky to be on a good stroke of books lately. I had a feeling when I picked up Rad’s newest I would be continuing that streak. This has been a good year for lesfic books so far and boy could we all use them.

I believe this is the 6th installment in the Rivers series. Like all of the books you really could start right here or at any book really, but to get the most enjoyment out of the series I would suggest starting from the beginning. Each book stars a new possible romantic couple, but Rad brings back characters from other books. These books take place in the Rivers hospital so think Grey’s Anatomy for a second. When watching that show you know all of the big main cast because you have learned about them over the episodes. This series is like that where almost all of the character you run into, are familiar because they stared in their own book earlier in the series. That’s why starting at the beginning and reading all the books, makes the series more fun.

This story was about one of the head nurses Blaise and a new surgeon Grady. Blaise is best friends with Abby so you do get a good amount of Abby and Flannery in this one. And because Blaise’s daughter Taylor is friends with Blake and the other kids they are in this too. A few other characters make cameos but that is the main focus. We do spend some time with Courtney who is Val’s sister so my guess is that Rad was setting up the next book for her story.

I really enjoyed the new character of Grady. She was great and almost too perfect. I did feel the connection between her and Blaise is a little fast for my tastes, but they had really good chemistry so I mostly ate my complaints. While the sex scenes were a little brief, there were nice and steamy so again I didn’t mind so much.

My one main issue and why I didn’t rate this as high as I was hoping to was because I found it to be really predictable. Meaning like you can see the conflict and the resolution coming a mile away. It was way too telegraphed so I knew everything that was going to happen, and it did exactly like I guessed it would. I’m a big Rad fan and I have read every full-length book she has published. One of the reasons I love reading Rad is she is familiar and comfortable. I know what to expect and she rarely if ever disappoints. But there is a difference between being familiar and being able to guess all the main plot points. That’s not what I want and it takes some of the fun out. So while I really enjoyed this, being so predictable stopped this from being higher than 4 stars for me.

While I was bummed about the predictability, I still enjoyed this. I really like the Rivers clan and when I was at the end of the book I just wanted more so I could keep reading. I’m not ready for this series to end anytime soon. If you are a Rad fan or a Rivers fan, this book is easy to recommend. If you are a medical-romance fan, I think you will enjoy this series too.

Before reading this I was unaware that this was part of a series/community. I thought this book was okay. I liked that it was a slow burn romance and that they really captured the feeling of working in a hospital, it felt very realistic of what a night shift is like. I am one of the very few that unfortunately just didn't vibe with this story. Most of the story I was just waiting for something to happen or feel the love of the characters like so many of the other reviewers did.

This is book number six in the Rivers Family Romance Series and the pairing between new attending doctor, Grady McClure and nurse Blaise Richelieu is an electric slow burn romance. This is the second book that I've read in this series and these books can be read as stand alone or the reader can enjoy the entire Rivers series.

When Grady and Blaise initially meet in the ER there is an immediate attraction and chemistry. Blaise gets the impression however that Grady is a sexy player who is trying to charm her next conquest. While that might have been Grady's approach to women in her past, she admits to herself that Blaise is different. Blaise is focused on her career and her teenager daughter, Taylor, and she rarely dates. Eventually Blaise begins to thaw to Grady's charm as they begin to spend time together and start to know each other on a deeper level.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book with the smoldering chemistry between Grady and Blaise, the hidden looks, and simple touches. The only downside for me in the Rivers series is that there are so many characters that initially I'm lost for awhile as to who is who.

I received an ARC from Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers, Bold Strokes Books Inc., of 'Love on the Night Shift" for affording me the opportunity to read the book and review it. I have previously read several books by Radclyffe and enjoyed them all.

This is the first time I've had to struggle to read one of the author's books. Perhaps it wasn't the best fit for me. Lots of teens and their angst, and so many characters all with surname sounding first hames. I struggled for the first few chapters getting them all sorted in my head. Another thing that rankled was why everyone consumed so many donuts. For health conscious medics, it just seemed a tad overkill is all. Breakfast? Donuts. Post breakfast? Donuts. Out for a jog, shove 3 donuts down the hatch etc. Am I being unfair? It's just how it appeared to me is all. I really loved the nightshift narrative and would have welcomed more details on the medical side.

Once the storyline devleoped it was easier to sort out the characters and who belonged to whom and where they fitted in. Perhaps had I read other books in the series it would have been easier? I dont feel invested enough in them to read more. Unlike some previous books of this author whiich I have read over and over again.

Despite the bumps in the reading road, I didn't dislike the book or the characters. it just didn't grip me or hold my interest. If you are looking for a light romance between two lesbian characters with a medical backdrop this should appeal. 3.5*

This is the first Rivers Community novel by Radclyffe that I've read. Somehow I overlooked the fine print on the cover and wasn't aware that this book was one of a series dealing with a specific community. However, this didn't detract from my enjoyment. I finally figured it out when a number of very interesting "secondary" characters didn't have much of a role in the book. This was disappointing because I would have liked to read more about them. ( What would have been helpful would have been an introductory page listing the cast of characters appearing in this novel, and the titles that they first appeared in. ) In any event, Radclyffe writes solid lesbian romances - attractive characters, great dialogue, and hot love making!

To recap the story: Blaise is a charge nurse on the night shift, and has a teenaged daughter; Grady is a surgeon newly hired by the hospital. Grady is intrigued, then smitten by Blaise, who is initially resistant to Grady's overtures. The story follows their budding romance. The supporting characters in the story include several teenagers who are, in my opinion (and experience), too good to be true. There is a bully that does appear and adds some drama to the story.

One drawback for me was the crisis that occurs almost at the end of the book. Without giving anything away, it didn't seem plausible to me that Blaise didn't make the connection when she first met Grady. If that sounds vague, I'm glad. Read the book!

As a lover of both Radclyffe and the River Community novels, I could not have been more excited to receive an ARC from Boldstrokes Books for Love on the Night Shift. Putting Harper and Presley aside this book focused more on new characters, Blaise and Grady, with a strong spotlight on Margie, Blake, and the other teenagers in the Rivers Community. The story seemed very repetitive of other Rivers novels when a new doctor in town falls for a Rivers Community doctor. What made this one different was the underlying storyline of the Rivers Community teenagers ( Margie, Blake, etc). Despite the somewhat familiar storyline, adding the storyline of the teenagers made this book awesome. I would love to have Radclyffe write the story of Margie and Blake for the next Rivers Community novel. Do not miss out on this!

This is an easy enjoyable read! Everything is happening real quickly between the main characters but I think it's still working.A great part of the book is also about other characters in the series. You don't have to know the other books in the series (I didn't) to enjoy this one but I think it's even more enjoyable if you have read them.
You can already guess from the start what the conflict at the end of this book will be but I really liked that it's not that big of a deal and easily solved! Sometimes I like it if there is big drama but it really was not necessary here!
So all in all I would absolutely recommend if you want a quick and easy read with a Happy End!

I absolutely love the series. Each book brings out new characters into light and still shows some of old. This one of course it is not disappointing! The family drama, future and past mix is welcome. The characters are lovable from the beginning. I definitively love this hospital and whole family and friends that work at it. This book sheds some light on future characters that I hope will see in next book?
I do wish to see more of Grady and Blaise in future work and see how their relationship progresses, because in this one we got a glimpse on their future. As reader I want it all, the happy ever after we have a wedding and live in one house thing. I hope that will be included as part of next book in this series.

I really loved this book. I had no idea it was part of a series as it read as a stand-alone book but I will for sure go and look for some of the others. I really appreciated the relationships between all of the characters - especially the teenagers. I thought this was handled sensitively. I thought the setting was great and it was just a really lovely romance novel. I enjoyed watching the characters grow and really didn’t want to put it down

The only down side for me was the link between Grady and Taylor. I felt it was obvious from the beginning and also a long shot. However it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book at all

I want to thank NetGalley, Bold Strokes Books, Inc., and author Radclyffe for providing me with an ARC of this novel!

I have not read any other books in The Rivers Community series (which I now will be going back to!), but that didn’t have an effect on my reading AT ALL. This was great as a standalone novel. We follow main characters Blaise and Grady; Blaise is a nurse and single mother; Grady is a new hire surgeon who moved to town to escape the shadow of her family’s legacy. These characters develop their relationship throughout the novel (yay, LGBTQIA+ representation!), and I so enjoyed watching it happen.

Anything medical field related is a huge YES from me, so I am so happy I was approved for this one. Also, as a lesbian, I’m all for the representation! Super enjoyable novel that I couldn’t put down!!

Thank you again to those named above for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

The Rivers Community series keeps getting better and better. This book highlighted the romance between Blaise, a dedicated nurse and mother, and Grady, a highly talented and charismatic surgeon. The first time they met during their nightshift, they were attracted to each other. Grady took hold of this attraction and pressed for more, but Blaise opted to maintain a friendly distance since Grady’s last name triggered a hurtful association with someone from her past.

I enjoyed these characters and they seemed to complement each other well. Their heart always seemed to be in the right place, especially when it came to Blaise’s 16 year old daughter, Taylor.
I also liked how the teenagers and adults discussed topics such as sex, friendships, and safety issues. Their dialogue was realistic and heartwarming. It was also nice to revisit characters from the other series.

As with the previous books, I enjoyed the medical procedures and the camaraderie of the Rivers group and their extended friendship with the community. But most of all, I enjoyed the depth of both the storyline and the characters.

Overall, this was a very entertaining read by an author who knows how to engage her audience from start to finish.

Wow! This was one book I had a hard time putting down. If not for stopping reading to go to work, this could easily be read in one day. That's how engaging I found this book to be. But, then, it is written by Radclyffe, one of my most favourite authors.
Despite being a book in the Rivers series, it can be read as a standalone. Main characters are Blaise, who is a single mother nurse, and Grady, a new-hire surgeon who moved to this small town to escape the shadow of her family's legacy. Grady's family is full of doctors and she's tired of being the "other Dr. McClure". Both of them have emotional baggage that they're working through. I know that eventually Blaise and Grady will get together. This is a romance novel, after all. But I really enjoy reading the evolution of their relationship.
Bonus of reading a series is that we also see beloved characters from previous books. In this case, we see Flann and Abby more prominently. It's always nice to re-visit them and see how they are doing.
Needless to say, I am looking forward to more Rivers Community Romance books.

This is exactly how a slow-burn romance should be written. I have not read any book from this series prior to reading Love on the Night Shift, but this book works perfectly as a stand-alone. I like the secondary characters in the book. I think the relationships between secondary and main character is what makes this book stand out among others. All in all, this is a well balanced book which hits all the marks for an excellent reading experience.

Main Characters:
Blaise - A parent who focus on her job and raising her teenage daughter. Being a young single mother adds dimension to Blaise, and it clearly define her as a person. You learn early on that she has walls surrounding herself and she has a hard time letting other people in.
Grady - A woman who has grown up in the shadow of a successful brother. She strives to prove herself and focus on work. She does not want to be the other McClure, which is part of the reason she starts her new job at the hospital in the first chapter. She meets women, but she's not interested in a relationship.

Pros:
Medical romance - This is a favorite genre of mine. I like that this book has achieved perfect balance between the work place and the life outside the hospital.
Single parent
Lovely secondary characters
Trans character
Dramatic surprises - Sometimes I feel the focus in slow-burn romance slips from the actual romance in an attempt to increase the drama. This is NOT the case in this book. Radclyffe has gotten the suspense and surprises just right. There are some twists and turns, but they are not filled with too much angst.

Con:
No Epilogue - I like this in books, but can understand it's no suitable for book in series. This is a minor con and should in no way keep you from reading this book.

I'm not sure how to write a positive review in a book I didn't really care for in a genre that I have little experience reading but I'll try. The nurses and doctors in this small town hospital seem like great people. In fact, pretty much the whole town seems full of nice people who love their work. Now reveal that a number of these nurses and doctors are attracted to each other, write semi-explicitly about that and toss in some awkwardly written sections and you have this new novel about same sex attraction. Maybe the sex scenes are actually awkwardly written or maybe I don't get it, but for the most part I don't think they did much for the novel. Maybe they were the whole reason for the novel? Either way, I vote 2-1/2 stars. Apologies for not rating higher, but a book that urges me need to skim through entire chunks to finish quickly doesn't allow fit a better rating; perhaps the intended target audience is young adults?

I loved that the author came back to The Rivers Community Romance series.

I like reading about the old characters while introducing new ones this story is about Blaise and Grady.

Blaise has always put walls up around heart when it comes to romance and when Dr. Grady comes on the scene it has her putting more walls up.

When Grady meets Blaise she completely into her and finds ways to be around her as Blaise realize that she got Grady all wrong she finally decide to give romance a chance.

I like their love story it didn’t have that much drama which I like. Enjoy the friendship between Blaise and Abby as they talk about their kids. Overall a great read look forward to next book in this series it’ll be so cool if the author could cross over first responder series with this series with any of the couples.

This is the next book in The Rivers Community Romance series. I loved the fact that the first 50% of the book took place in less than 36 hours. I thought this was a great way to really show how Blaise and Grady's meeting etched their future in stone. Grady and Blaise were just really nice people without a whole lot of drama between them. The lack of dramatic angst was much appreciated. I liked visiting with old friends from previous books and am looking forward to the next romance in this series. Thanks Radclyffe for another great read!

Any series book of Radclyffes is a great read. I love that even as she introduces new characters we revisit the ones we have grown fond of. Blaise and Grady are the focus of this one at the Rivers Hospital.
