What a juicy soap-opera-ish tale!!! Three women at different stages of those their lives live in the same "complex" - but in my head, its a row of town homes - with no other neighbors evidently lol. Embry is the sweetheart with the handsome Hubs and 2.5 kids, Riki is a school teacher at a private school that is slowly losing her soul due to sucky overbearing hovering over entitled parents (yes I'm a bit bitter about that part lol) fighting her feelings for someone that is totally hands off and then we have Sylvia, who appears to be a woman scorned by a cheater boyfriend but boy-oh-boy - theres a whole lot of crazy stuck in that one lol This story had my attention from page one and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! I've provided an honest review for Lie, Lie Again in exchange for a ARC from Netgalley.

The book started of with the quite typical thriller starting chapter of a body being found, and then we go back in time to get to know the characters and work our way up to the moment of the death. So from the first chapter you don't know who the dead person or who the killer is.

Even though that's quite a typical start to a thirller, I usually really like non-linear storytelling, especially in thrillers. However, this book was not actually told in a non-linear way. The first chapter was basically just "oh yeah look a body" and then we go back in time and then everything is told in a linear way.

And within the linear storyline I kept on waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the body to show up. And I had to wait a long time, because (slight spoiler maybe?) the body only shows up when you're over 90% of the way through the book, I believe it was even close to/over the 95% mark. And you can't promise me a body in the synopsis and in the first chapter to then only let it show up in the last 5% of the book, and only actually building up to the death in the last 10% of the book.

The other 90% of this book we just followed the lives of these 3 women: Sylvia, Embry and Kiki. And that's not what I signed up for when I started this book. I didn't want a plain contemporary on these three women's lives. Let's be honest: Sylvia was the only one with a slightly interesting life.

It took me almost a month to finish this book because I was so bored whilst reading this. I didn't care about Kiki's relationship with a doucebag and her crush on her neighbour and I didn't care about Embry's relationship problems, because those elements aren't really thriller related. The author tried so hard to make these two characters' problems seem like something big to make you think they could kill someone and be the one responsible for the body. And I didn't believe that for a single second. The only one that convinced me she could be a possible killer is Sylvia.

I really don't have anything more to say about the first 90% of the book because it was so boring, I wouldn't even want to read a book about these women's life if it wasn't a thriller, that's how boring it was.

The last 10% of the book things finally started to happen, so the last 10% definitely was intriguing and I was trying to guess who the murderer and who the victim would be. Although I did that troughout the book as well and almost from the second the character who ends up dying, was introduced, I was quite certain they would end up being dead, and I was correct. But let me tell you: I don't read a thriller to guess the dead person from page 5. I did end up beind wrong who the killer was, (once again slight spoiler alert) because there was no real killer.

And then in the last 5% we finally get the aftermath of the whole body being found thing, and that was once again so predictable and boring. Above that there was no real aftermath for the dead body, because it didn't really influence the main characters' life, except from maybe being traumatised by seing a body.

So in short (with a slight spoiler): I waited 95% of the book for a body to show up, for the body than being the result of an accident rather than an actual murder for it then not having any influence on these boring lives I didn't care for in the first place.

To end on a bit of a positive note: I liked one thing about this book and that was the writing style. Even though the characters were as boring and annoying as they could be, they were still quite realistic, they're just not the type of characters I like to read about, especially not in a thriller. And I definitely have to give the author a kuddo for her dialogue, because that was written really well! I often times find dialogue in books quite forced or not realistic but this is definitely one of the more realistic dialogue I came across lately.

I use G from Bookroast's CAWPILE rating system and this book ended up coming out as a 2.57 out of 10. I gave characters a 3 out of 10, atmosphere a 2 and writing a 6 Both plot and intrigue only got a 1 out of 10, because they didn't really exist in this book. I gave logic a 3 out of 10 and enjoyement a 2. According to CAWPILE that is still an overal 2 out of 5 star rating, but I disagree with that, for me that's a 1 star rating.

I started this book one afternoon and stayed up to midnight to finish to book because I could't put it down! You know that is a sign of a good book.

Lie, Lie Again tells the story of 3 neighbors Sylvia, Embry, and Riki who all live at 1054 Mockingbird Lane. They all have their secrets that they are hiding. Embry is keeping a secret from her husband, Riki is keeping a secret from Embry, and Sylvia is keeping multiple secrets from everyone she knows and someone is lying to her as well. The book opens up with the three neighbors standing in a semi circle around a dead body. The book then goes on to tell the story of how we got to the body at the bottom of stairs at 1054 Mockingbird Lane. There are twists, turns, and more questions as the book goes on.

Overall, I loved this book and I couldn't put it down. My one complaint about the book is that it opens with a dead body and the dead body doesn't reappear to the end of the book. When I started the book, I thought the dead body would reappear at the middle of the book and then lead of on the adventure of keeping the secret about the dead body but boy I was wrong. Someone else said this book was more like dark women's fiction rather than a mystery or thriller and I would agree with that.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I was looking forward to this one as it had all the elements of a great plot for me but sadly, I don't think it was executed very well. It was an easy read but I didn't enjoy the characters. This missed the mark and I wouldn't say it was a thriller - more of just a dark story.

If you wish you could read the minds of other people, this book would be for you -- because you get to know every thought that passes through these characters' minds. For me, it was overkill. Out of the three main characters, there was only one I could imagine being friends with. Well, her and the dead landlady. The other two women were kind of icky; one of them was actually kind of scary in her sociopathy. The only thing I felt like I could relate to was the angst of the teacher as she dealt with difficult parents. It wasn't a book I'd read again; however, for a reader who really likes drama and romantic tension, this would be a gold mine.

Definitely an easy read! It is the kind of book I reach for only rarely, when I need a break from reality and something quite light to read.

This is the story of 3 women living in the same complex. They all have a bit of a different life and expectations, one is married and a mum, happy in her life but quite insecure and a little bit boring to be honest. The other one is portrayed as a strong indépendant woman, it inside, she wants a stable relationship and kids, and the last one is in a relationship she isn’t really committed to and thinks the grass is greener somewhere else. Added to the mix there is lies and betrayals.

I think some people would definitely enjoy this book, it’s gossipy, light and intriguing. But personally, I think that all of the characters were dull and weak. The story had many coincidences that were just too forced and not really probable. The story and build up of characters is quite slow. I do think that Stacy Wise does a good job of telling the story, it is clear and well written.

Thank you NetGalley for letting me read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This had the potential to be more of a thrilling story than it was, especially after such a good premise. The story centers around 3 women in an apartment complex each with secrets that don't want others to know, but they stumble upon a dead body and each cope differently with how to handle it. I will let other readers decide for themselves but I only liked one of the three ladies.

About the story. There is so much background information and explaining who they are that there isn't much to the actual story until like 2/3 in and the twist was predictable. Predictable is never good. This is a shame because I enjoyed a few of the novels previously written by this author. Just an average read for me.

This book description really intrigued me right away & the early reviews were generally pretty good - so I was excited for this thriller... Unfortunately, I ended up being quite underwhelmed.
This book was just... okay. Entertaining, sure - but nothing special. It’s an easy, fun, fast read though!

Thank you nonetheless to Lake Union Publishing for the e-ARC.

Lie, Lie Again follows the lives of three neighbours living in LA as they navigate their individual lives that inadvertently overlap - each woman dealing with her own life and internal conflicts. Overall I liked reading this book, but I was left questioning at multiple times what the actual premise was? The blurb and the opening chapter highly hints that the book revolves around a dead body at the bottom of the apartment stairs. Instead I felt as though the book focused on the trials and tribulations of the balances and sacrifices that women face today in regards to families and careers. And it was almost as thought the death was a subplot that was only merely hinted at throughout the book and then glazed over near the end. It was though, these interesting characters that kept me reading the book as opposed to the supposed mysterious death, I was invested in the characters lives and wanted to see what happened to them. Overall, this book is interesting, but I'm not sure if its the first that would come to mind when recommending a thriller or mystery.

This seemed like such an intriguing book, but unfortunately it disappointed me. I felt that it was too much of a slow burn to have the desired effect.

I didn't really like any of the characters which made it hard to stay interested.

Unfortunately this one wasn't for me.

This book follows 3 women (Riki, Embry & Sylvia) who all live in the same complex. The three of them live separate lives but are weaved together & connected by various circumstances. Sometimes the plot line lagged but it was a decent book; it felt at times like I was reading the script of a daytime soap opera. Comes out November 2020. Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the ARC.

I loved the characters - they felt as real as (some of) my actual friends. The balance of virtue and flaw within each character gave me food for thought.

The premise - 3 women with secrets living in the same complex, and a body in the basement - was interesting enough to make me pick up the book and want to keep reading.

This is a good, slow-paced, character-driven read.

Three very different women live at a small apartment building on Mockingbird Lane.

Sylvia Webb is a single woman trying to find Mr. Right. She thinks she has found him, until she realizes he is liar. Then she decides to get revenge.

Riki McFarlan is a school teacher who loves her school kids, but not their parents, who are constantly giving her grief. She has a boyfriend but for some reason can't stop thinking about her neighbor, Brandon Taylor, who is an aspiring actor and is married with kids.

Embry and Brandon Taylor are happily married with two beautiful children. Brandon is not having any luck with his career and is getting frustrated. Embry has just found out something that she is afraid will make the stress in their worse and so she decides to keep it a secret.

When the owner of the property dies, her son enters the picture and tries to sell the property. Chaos ensues as the tenants in the building try to keep it from happening.

This was a very well written story and kept my attention throughout. Highly recommend!

This book focuses on 3 women living in a complex like (like they are neighbor) Sylvia Em and Riki. They all dealing with life and their own secrets when a dead body ends up rocking their lives. It was such a slow paced mystery but still amazing. I loved Sylvia's story as she was such a likeable character in her own way.. Thanks to the publisher for my ARC.

First, let me say that though this book was marketed as a thriller, it wasn't. There was nothing about this book that said thriller. It was full of unlikeable, hokey characters and honestly,  I couldn't wait for the book to be over. The only semi-normal woman was Embry but even that got tired, like why don't you just tell your freaking husband you're pregnant already?!  Sylvia was annoying and Riki was downright childish, making starry eyes at every guy that was nice to her and pining away for her friend's husband. Each of them lamenting over men, focusing all their energies on the men in their lives whether they be good or bad guys and it definitely got a bit tiresome as there didn't seem to be anything else of substance in the book. It was kind of reminiscent of Melrose Place but much, much worse with less appealing characters.

Lie, Lie Again was a great read (seriously I devoured it in a single sitting). This book starts out with a bang, literally a dead body in a hallway. I had initially picked this out because I thought it would be a fast paced thriller, but I found the thriller aspect to be the least interesting part. I stuck around for the character work. Embry, Sylvia and Riki were fascinating characters and I really look forward to Stacy Wise's next book!

I was quite intrigued by the blurb and I knew I wanted to read it. I was not disappointed. The characters are well developed in this novel. The storyline is very gripping and the suspense is built slowly. There is a heaviness or darkness that the book carries. I loved the pink cover too. I expected a lot more from the ending but I won't say I was disappointed. It was a happy ending. The author has a lot of potential and I want to read more from here. I definitely recommend this to mystery lovers.

I felt so tense throughout the entirety of this book. I was so on edge and I had no idea what was coming next. I enjoyed this so much and can't wait to see more from Stacy Wise.

I was really hoping for a great suspenseful thriller. Secrets in the apartment complex, three women’s lives coming together to form a story. But it just wasn’t thrilling for me. It was slow paced and the ending “twist” wasn’t very surprising. I didn’t hate it, but it was just too light of a thriller for me to enjoy.

This one was just an average read unfortunately.

The blurb was a little misleading and wasn't that page turner I thought it was going to be.

I could of easily given up but forced myself to finish.
