Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. From the synopsis I was expecting a twisty thriller involving 3 women living in the same apartment block. I hate having to say this but it was pretty lacklustre for me. The only woman with a deep dark secret was Sylvia in my opinion. I kept reading it hoping it would have more twists in it etc but it just kind of reach a rather anticlimactic ending for me. It would be a stretch in my opinion to describe this book as a thriller. #netgalley #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #litsy #bookstagram #bookqueen #amazon#kindle

Sylvia, Embry and Riki live in a California four-plex. The fourth apartment was occupied by the building’s owner who recently passed away. The three women call themselves ‘friends,’ but in reality know very little about each other. Sylvia is desperate to get past issues of her father’s abandonment when she was a young girl and continually hooks up with Mr. Wrongs. She thought the most recent was a keeper but was furious and humiliated to find out he was not only married, but had a new baby. Riki teaches in an upscale private school and is constantly battling the uppity parents about her lesson plans. In her personal life, she has a distracting crush on her wanna-be-actor neighbor, Brandon. Embry, Brandon’s wife, is a stay-at-home mother of two (with surprise #3 on the way) and spends her time worrying about the family’s finances, the odds of Brandon getting an acting job, how to tell him she is pregnant again, if they should move back to the Midwest, and what Riki is doing texting and dancing in the rain with her husband. As a side note, there is Jonathan, the deceased owner’s son, who has come to sell the property for millions in order to continue his party-boy lifestyle.

The book started off well enough with emergency lights swirling, a body at the bottom of the staircase, and the three neighbors huddled together. It continued well enough, also, with the three women’s storylines being revealed. Somewhere around the middle, though, things became a little ‘off.’ I felt like the dialog became stilted, the storylines became trite and predictable, and there was no real convergence between the women’s storylines and the dead body. Instead of liking the characters more, I began not really liking them at all. Sylvia became an irresponsible sociopath, Embry is a mousy basket case, and Riki is in love with the idea of being in love and should focus a little more on gainful employment instead of transferring her crush from Brandon to a sexy doctor. The ending wrapped up too neatly for what the storylines and characters turned into. I’m not sure what happened, but it did not end on the notes it started with.

Three women. Three secrets. This story followed three women living in the same 4-plex. It took me a few chapters to get familiar with the three main characters. The secrets these women had actually really varied from Sylvia being the most secretive and a bit evil to Embry, who didn't seem to have a secret that was earth shattering. I enjoyed this book. It was the right amount of mystery and entertaining since the three women were so different!

“Lies, secrets, and revenge. For three neighbors with stakes so high, someone is headed for a downfall.”

Lie, Lie, Again was so good! This novel follows three neighbors who all have something to hide. The book starts out with a body at the end of the stairs and then takes you back to weeks before.

All the Big Little Lies vibes over here!! If you’re a fan of Liane Moriarty, you will love this one!

4 STARS

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.

This novel was a slow read. The book itself was well written and had interesting characters and a story line. This just wasn’t my cup of tea. Wished it had more of a mystery feel to it but that’s just my type of genre I prefer.

The story starts off with a teaser of someone dying then dives into the main characters; Sylvia- the mid-thirties business type women who is seeing a man she believes is the one (not to spoil anything) but then she finds out he may not be so perfect, Embry-in her 20’s, married young to a spritzing actor who is quite the looker so they say and they have two children and Riki- a teacher with a crush on Embry’s husband. They all live in the same apartment complex and the story follows each of their lives, from the day-to-day struggles to the secrets.

All in all, it was a decent read! Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for this arc.

A strange thriller for me , nothing new or exciting really but still an ok read.

Was really looking forward to this read and still enjoyed it. However I felt it was slow paced the opposite of a thriller and was just ok

This was a pretty good read, which was written in an intriguing way. It wasn’t as fast paced as I wanted, which is why I didn’t give tbr full 5 stars, but I do highly recommend! It’s one of those that have the characters story sort of collide by living area/space, and you just have to read it to get the full understanding. I do think it had some pretty good twists & turns, thrills, and chills, but may be more domestic drama suspense than some thrillers are. Overall, it’s a well written book that’s sure to keep your attention, especially if you don’t need non stop thrills!

Very interesting read . Good storyline following these characters. The book was well written and flowed well. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was hard to put down once you go started

The premise and the beginning of this book gave of some Big Little Lies vibes which got me very intrigued. However it fell flat for me as I found all the characters pretty one dimensional and uninteresting. I didn't connect to anyone and some characters were very irritating and not exactly believable (Sylvia). I do think this novel will find its audience but that sadly isn't me.

Oh... Is that it?

While I loved reading Lie, Lie Again (the writing is fab), I've come away feeling a bit deflated. Maybe it's my own fault: I was expecting something along the mystery/thriller genre, but this was most definitely missing the thrill.
When the book was wrapping up in the last few chapters, I kept waiting for the twist, the ah moment. But alas, nothing but an unnecessarily long ending.

Secrets bind us together more than anything and that’s exactly what Embry, Sylvia and Riki have as they deal with their secrets and they attempt to avoid the sale of their secret containing apartment complex (I mean, what would you do with a dead body in the basement?)

The plot ebbed and flowed decently and it was entertaining to follow the story of the three women who all have wildly different backgrounds with something major in common.

Thank you so much NetGalley for my free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Coming January 1, 2021! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️

Lie, Lie Again is a dramatic story revolving around three women, Sylvia, Embry, and Riki. Sylvia is a successful woman in her late thirties who is longing to have a baby of her own, much like twenty-five year old Embry, who has two children and a third one (which she is hiding from her husband) on the way. Riki is harboring very strong feelings for Embry’s husband, Brandon. Each one has her own secrets that are threatening to undo their lives.

I just want to say that I am absolutely in love with this cover. Everything about it screams drama and revenge. I love it.

This book was such a slow-burn for me. The plot continued to build and build until everything came crashing down (in a good way) at the very end with the climax of the story. I really enjoyed the ending of the book, but I did find myself struggling to continue along about halfway though. I knew it was all building up to something, however, and I’m so glad I made it to the end.

I was absolutely intrigued by Sylvia, and I would not be opposed in any way to seeing a sequel focusing on her and the new life she wants to build for herself that is mentioned in the last chapter. She has a very distorted personality, but learning more about her was so interesting to me! She was definitely my favorite character from the book.

Unfortunately, I didn’t love this book as much as I hoped I would, but it was still a very enjoyable read. The different POVs were well done, and overall, the plot moved steadily along.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC of this book!

I got through this book really quickly. The story was good, but the ending was kind of blah for me. Would recommend to someone who wants a quick read.

This far exceeded my expectations. First off I loved the characters and they were written in a way that you can see them as your own friends. I loved the slow boil in terms of the build up. A couple of chapters did feel a little stagnant but picked right back up. Very good read!

This book was just kind of okay for me. There were some aspects that I enjoyed, and others not so much.
For the positives, I think this book had a lot of potential. The idea of the story was quite intriguing, and the way the author writes was pretty easy to follow. This is quite important considering this book is told from multiple perspectives, which was actually executed quite well.
For the things that fell flat:
I really did not feel connected to the characters, which is something that is very important to me while reading. Some characters were annoying, while others were just quite boring. I really enjoyed Embry as a character, but she would be the only one. I also thought that some parts of the book dragged, there seemed to be a lot of unnecessary scenes.

Overall, I am rating this book 3/5 stars due to there being both aspects I liked and disliked.

Thank you for the ARC to review!

I love Stacy Wise writings this is one of her slower moving books but it's still good. It's about three girls living in a complex. They were trying to deal with things in their own lives until a dead man washs up into their lives. This slow paced mystery is a great read!

What a juicy soap-opera-ish tale!!! Three women at different stages of those their lives live in the same "complex" - but in my head, its a row of town homes - with no other neighbors evidently lol. Embry is the sweetheart with the handsome Hubs and 2.5 kids, Riki is a school teacher at a private school that is slowly losing her soul due to sucky overbearing hovering over entitled parents (yes I'm a bit bitter about that part lol) fighting her feelings for someone that is totally hands off and then we have Sylvia, who appears to be a woman scorned by a cheater boyfriend but boy-oh-boy - theres a whole lot of crazy stuck in that one lol This story had my attention from page one and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! I've provided an honest review for Lie, Lie Again in exchange for a ARC from Netgalley.
