Oooh!!! Really enjoyed this. Main character had a stalker and gets herself in a position to finish him off but all is not what it seems. Never saw the ending coming. Definitely a 10/10

A great book about obsession
I did enjoy this book but the pacing wasn’t good throughout.
I enjoyed the twist at the end which was a surprise

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by this author , she’s definitely one to look out for . It was a great book full of twists and turns. I did guess part of the story but there were still some surprises. I highly recommend this book and give it 5 stars

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

My first book by this author and it won't be my last.
A great read and really well written - I had problems putting this down and read until my Kindle died at one point. I loved the storyline and characters.
Can I have Lauren's next book please?!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, fast paced with lots of twists and turns.. A&E doctor Jenna Lawson has a stalker, someone has been watching her from the shadows and leaving dolls on her doorstep.
It’s ruining her life, and affecting her children and marriage too.
Running alongside this is the story of Sophie, whose parents adopted a five year old boy when she was young. She’s quickly told she has to look after young Matthew, but realises from day one that he is different to other brothers.
The two stories meet relatively early on in the book, but the ends don’t tie up quite as you think…

The NetGalley app kept crashing so I was unable to read this before it became unavailable. I really was looking forward to it.

Woah, what a great storyline and book this one was! Unique I thought as I’ve not really come across this sort line before and so it was enjoyable to see just how far she would go knowing what she was doing was far more than crossing the line, loves it, fast paced with twists galore, a must read for 2021

This is my first book by the author and I am on the fence with they style of writing. I feel the "twist" is revealed very early on and to be honest I struggled to finish this one.

There were a few elements to the story that had me shaking my head. Being a lawyer I struggle with Courtroom style drama books because they way the author bends realistic situations to fit their storyline makes it unbelievable and unrealistic, but I dont usually find that too much of a problem in other genres, until now. I found with this book there were just tooo many scenarios that would just NEVER happen, not even close thus plausibility is zero and therefore my enjoyment is very low.

I do enjoy creepy stalker style thrillers but I was just a bit "meh" about this one unfortunately.

Who is the stalker? And Why?

Dr Jenna Lawson, an A & E specialist, mother of Beth and Archie and wife of Stuart, is being stalked. Flowers, dolls with red hair like hers and break-ins occur with regularity. The police are aware but cannot find any trace of the suspect. That is until a man is brought in after being hit by a bus, and she’s convinced that this is the man she’s seen stalking her. However, if this is the case, why are things still happening? Could he have an accomplice?

This is a fast-paced novel with a good storyline. However, I loathed the protagonist and didn’t particularly warm to any of the other characters either. Unfortunately, the author portrayed the characters well. However, because of Jenna’s paranoia, I just couldn’t get myself to engage or empathise with her. I felt desperately sorry for her husband and children. Jenna is so consumed by her stalker and her career that no one else seems to matter. Lauren North certainly woke up some extreme emotions inside me, and let’s face it, as an author, if she can do that, she’s excelled as a writer.

Firstly, what a fantastic title! It fits the novel so well on two levels. Jenna's stalker is always "One Step Behind" her, Jenna is valiantly trying to maintain a work/life balance and she is always "One Step Behind".

Jenna's oath as a medical professional to 'do no harm' is put to the ultimate test with a moral dilemma that rocks her world.

This is a domestic thriller, and one that I'll remember for quite some time. The reason is the vivid imagery of the descriptions, and the plot twist that I really didn't see coming. Yes, I had my suspicions about part of the twist, and I was correct... yet, the second part of the twist was a jaw-dropping moment.

The characters were vivid, realistic, and relatable. The story was compelling and caused me to almost feel Jenna's fear, exhaustion, and insecurities.

I highly recommend this thriller to fans of the genre and am eager to read more of this author's work.

Absolutely loved this! Just bought her first book and am starting it straight after this review. This story will keep you on edge and make you look at everyone in it with suspicion! I liked the main characters and I like the flicking between then and now as we get to know what’s happening. Absolutely 5/5.

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. If I had to sum this book up in 3 words they would be atmospheric, unputdownable and creepy. This book had me captivated from the very start. An AE doctor has a stalker, he enters her home, moves things around, he follows her she just wants him to stop. Then by a twist of fate he becomes a patient she must treat in her hospital. She decides to turn the tables and start stalking him whilst he is in her care. A great thriller, told from dual perspectives it kept me guessing until the very end. I literally had a cup of tea go cold on me whilst reading this book, it held my attention so much I forgot to drink my beloved tea! #laurennorth #onestepbehind #netgalley #goodreads #tea_sipping_bookworm #bookqueen #bookstagram #litsy #amazonkindle #thriller #plottwists #stalker

When I am not reading fantasy books, my other favourite genre has to be psychological thrillers, and I am always on the lookout for books from this genre that offer something a little bit different. One Step Behind is just such a book, and is one that I read cover to cover in just one sitting. Once I started reading, I simply couldn’t stop until I knew who was terrorising Jenna and why.

Lauren North captures the terror that victims of stalking must feel in a way that will probably have me looking over my shoulder and double checking the back seat of my car for a while. Throughout the book there is an insidious paranoia about all men that the author has created to reflect how Jenna must feel, and this made me distrustful of each of the male characters at one point or another.

One Step Behind is a brilliantly constructed psychological thriller that just goes to show that you never know who can be trusted and who is just hiding behind a public persona.

I found I didnt really connect with the characters in this book. It started out ok but then fell into a slump. The ending wasnt that good either which left me rather disappointed. The plot was what grabbed me in the first place. So disappointing overall !!
