Superb psychological thriller- I loved it!! This well written book had me gripped from the first page. I have read a lot of books during Lockdown and this is one of the best. The characters are well written and I cared about what was happening to them. The twist at the end was brilliant. Highly recommended.

Having read Lauren North’s previous book ‘The Perfect Betrayal’, I knew I was in for a great read and wasn’t disappointed. Told from the perspective of Jenna and Sophie, at first you wonder what the connection is, but as the story unfolds all becomes clear.
Jenna (a hard working doctor) is being terrorised by a stalker who follows her, sending countless emails and leaving broken dolls on her doorstep. She becomes in absolute fear of her life. Her feelings of panic are graphically described by the author and keep you gripped to the page. Although occasionally you feel you know who is the perpetrator, you’re never sure, and several twists and turns keep you guessing.
However, when someone who she believes to be the perpetrator arrives at hospital and she has the ability to save him, she has decisions to make. As a doctor, she works hard and takes pride in doing her best to help her patients recover, but this person has been causing her severe problems for far too long.
This is a well plotted book, full of action and drama. Both Jenna and Sophie are suffering from different forms of abuse, Jenna is being harassed and threatened by a stalker, Sophie is being controlled by Nick her partner. As a reader, you’re kept guessing who is the stalker, or are there two of them? What is the connection between Jenna and Sophie?
This book is a compelling, high-octane adrenaline drive, I couldn’t put it down until reading the last page. Highly recommended.

A great thriller about a doctor who is being stalked and left gifts from her stalker.

When her stalker comes into hospital unconscious she has an opportunity to find out more about thim before he wakes but she crosses more and more lines she shouldn't

The pattern of the book is good, nicely paced and gripping. Great holiday read

Thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Jenna is an A&E doctor with a husband, 2 kids, and a stalker. She has been getting threatening messages from him for about a year when he suddenly turns up at her hospital after getting hit by a bus. She has the choice to save him or let him die and she saves him. He is in a coma but she can't get relief from the feeling that someone is still watching.

3.5 stars

It took me awhile to get into this book and I didn't feel like it had as many twists and turns as I had hoped for. Also, I always need a solid reason for whatever the bad guy has done in order to feel really satisfied with a conclusion and I didn't feel like this reasoning was as interesting as I had hoped it would be, but it was a decent book and I would likely read more from this author.

This is a classy thriller that kept me guessing to the very end. With themes of stalking, controlling behaviour, mother's love and mental health, it's a very well written and engaging story. I raced through it and highly recommend it.

Well I did not expect that ending. I did not guess what would happen at the end and it was such a fab story. Jenna is an A&E doctor in a hospital, married to Stuart and with two children. She is being stalked and is being left “presents” on her doorstep which freak her out completely comprising her sanity and her job. She involves the Police but they are not able to find whoever is doing this terrible thing. Jenna is frightened and frightened for her children and wants to move house. She is so freaked out that she is passing her fear onto her children. Her husband is not keen on that idea and feels the Police will be able to sort out this and catch the person. Jenna comes across a person who she thought was the stalker in the hospital but while in a coma the drama still continues. I really enjoyed this book and as said above I did not see the ending coming at all which is the sign of a fab book. I can highly recommend this book and believe all who read it will love it

It’s always a good sign when a book goes right into the action. No half told backstory just delicious drama!
The start to One Step Behind was my favourite part of the book. Straight away you’re thrown into Jenna’s terrifying world!
The uneasiness, the stress, the constant feeling of danger...I worked up a sweat just reading this never mind living it! Lots of suspicious characters and couple of cheeky red herrings.
Loved it!

Amazingly written from the perspective of Jenna and Sophie. Why is she being targeted? Why would someone stalk a doctor who’s trying to help people? Did not see the twist at the end! Brilliant book!

I really enjoyed this book. Wee bits where you think you have figured out out who it is.
Jenna is being stalked, her relationship with her husband is strained. Her children are on edge.
Matthew is Sophies adopted brother. Sophie has always had to look out for Matthew.
All is not as it seems in either family.
Definitely recommend this book. Thank you to netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Despite it being rather far fetched in a few places, I did enjoy this book enough to continue to read as I was so confused that I just didn't know what to think or who to believe.

One Step Behind is the perfect title.

A really good psychological thriller- I didn’t see the twists and turns coming at all. Fast paced and dark, brilliant characters- I loved coming back to this book and so read it quickly.

This is a good, solid psychological thriller.

I liked that Jenna was an A&E doctor. Too often the main character in this kind of novel has a job they can conveniently forget about whilst they're solving a mystery but not in this case! I completely felt Jenna's fear and frustration that the police couldn't help her with her stalker and was genuinely interested to see where the story would end up. I didn't see the ending coming at all, I had multiple theories whilst reading but they all turned out to be wrong.

For me it was just missing the 'wow' factor that would bump my rating up to 5 stars, but it is very well written and I did enjoy it so I would recommend it to others.

I was one step behind throughout this book. I kept thinking I had worked it out and then it changed again. Lots of twists and turns and ultimately a lesson to us all about what is really important in life.
This book kept me gripped from start to finish. Highly recommended

A truly great piece of fiction. It has everything, Jenna has a good life, loving husband, children, fulfilling job and good friends. She also has a stalker. Jenna lives her life looking over her shoulder, strange and frightening gifts left on her doorstep, shadows in the garden, e-mails sent to her work colleagues and a fear of being watched continuously. A man is admitted into the hospital where Jenna works and she realises it's him - her stalker. For the first time she feels in control, knowing he can't do anything anymore. As she investigates further other disturbing things start to happen. Was he not working alone?
The more you get drawn into this book the harder it is to put down. it is full of intrigue, suspense, twists and turns. Lauren North also wrote The Perfect Betrayal which was also a gripping, psychological. I am really looking forward to her next one.

Simply brilliant. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I could not put this book down. Jenna is a doctor in the local hospital and is a victim of stalking. Faced with a dilemma, the day her stalker is rushed into A&E following a road traffic accident, should Jeena save him. So many twists in this novel it will keep you up at night. Can't recommend enough.

Thank you to NetGalley for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

One Step Behind is the story of Jenna, an A&E Doctor who is being stalked and taunted by someone. Someone watching from the shadows and sending her sick and twisted emails and gifts, threatening her and her children.
The police don’t seem to be doing anything to help her so Jenna is left scared and frustrated until the person stalking her is brought in to A&E after being hit by a bus.
Jenna decides to find out who he is and who is stalking her and why.

This takes Jenna away from everything, her friends, her family and her job, she doesn’t know who she can trust.

For me this was a book of two halves. I liked the twist and the reveal, it was one I didn’t see coming but the way Jenna handled things and some of the steps she took to find the truth annoyed me. She came across as whiny and annoying and as such it took a while for anything to happen that kept me interested.

Overall I thought it was a okay read and I would try another of Lauren North’s books.
