Amantine’s song is a love story with two people from very different walks of life. Amantine is an English literature academic, working hard with research in an attempt to further her career in academia. Peter is a singer in a rock band, although he is also working hard to promote himself.
Amantine first sees Peter early on Sunday morning and mistakes him for a homeless character, however she is strongly attracted to him to the degree of obsession. Although Amantine is in a long term relationship, she begins an affair with Peter and enjoys the fact this makes her feel free and unrestricted, unlike how she feels with Geoff, her boyfriend.
Amantine wants to be with Peter, but at the same time doesn’t want to get attached. After a few meetings and farewells, Amantine and Peter finally get together for good.
This book is an easy read and you don’t know which way it is going until the end. At times I wanted to shake Amantine to make her see sense as she couldn’t actually decide what she wanted until Peter’s life was threatened.
