This is genuinely terrific, a proper love letter to nature. Different to more recent nature books which are focusing on the loss of our natural environment and the risks of the future, Braiding Sweetgrass delivers the same messages but in a really beautiful way, drawing attention to the reality with a really graceful style. It's also lovely to read something about nature that includes the history of indigenous people and how they have, and continue to, interact with the world. There is science and spirit here, and it's the first time I've put a nature book down and felt real hope.

One of the most beautiful and important books that I have read in years. The author takes timeless lessons from her people's culture and weaves them into stories from her scientific life, together painting a picture of how different things could be if we paid attention to what the land and the animals are telling us. I'm already looking forward to rereading this book in the future, and parts keep coming back to me as I go about my days. I would truly recommend this book to every reader.

A wonderful, beautiful non fiction book which is part memoir and part about plants and appreciating nature and what we can do to help protect and honor the land we live upon. Introducing many native American traditions learnt from the authors family members it reminds us that we need nature and nature needs us. We have so much to learn from indigenous stories and traditions. We have to find a balance and respect the earth and this book full of interconnecting essays will remind us. An insightful read.

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

This has to e one of my all time favourite books. One that I will dip into time and time again. Kimmerer is a member of the Potowatomi Nation and charges the book with her vast knowledge as a scientist whilst fusing it with her personal and indigenous folk stories.
I am in love with her writing, her warmth and inspiring outlook. Her teaching of reciprocity, of the beauty of the earth shows us how to appreciate, value and care for the natural world and be good ancestors.
In a genre dominated by white men, Kimmerer’s voice is a breath of fresh air.
