Sage Rountree always does an excellent job with her yoga books. I already own her Everyday Yoga book, which is a great starting point for any yogi who wants to set up an at hone practice.

This book takes it a set further for the more experienced yogi with more in-depth practices and giving you a guide for being a yoga teacher. It talks about the Yoga Alliance Standards and gives details on how to structure a class. It also goes into how to get your first gig, whether you want to open up your own studio, work full time, part time or do teacher training yourself. It’s just packed with so much great info!

I recommend this for every yogi who is interested in becoming a teacher,

Thanks to Netgalley, publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I don't know that I've ever read a book like this before. It's essentially all the advice you would get from a seasoned mentor, recorded in a book. Basically, it seems to cover a lot of things to help a yoga teacher grow and succeed that may not be covered in teacher training. I personally appreciated that it wasn't just nuts and bolts advice about how to grow one's business, but also thoughtful exercises to get you to reflect on what you find most satisfying about the profession as well as suggestions to help you grow and evolve in your teaching. I actually picked this up as a barre instructor, not a yoga instructor, but found a lot of valuable advice and wisdom that I think applies to all types of fitness instructors and wellness professionals.

This book was received as an ARC from The Experiment in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in my review are completely my own.

My original intention for writing this review was solely based on my love for yoga and potentially becoming a future yoga instructor as a side job and this was the perfect book to review in order to do so. This book taught me so much about the yoga studio business and what it takes to build a client base, handle money including a proper starting price point and what exactly your clients will be looking for in your classes. This will be a good book to have on my bookshelf as a reference for the business and to have for patrons who inspire to become a yoga instructor.

We will consider adding this title to our R Non-Fiction collection in our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

I found this to be a very valuable and helpful text as a new yoga teacher. It focused on business and planning topics that helped me to think about myself as a professional. It was yoga teaching beyond the mat!

Practicing Yoga for 10+ years prepares you to teach but there’s so much more that goes into getting your certification and teaching than just attending yoga classes. I’ve often used Yoga during difficult times in my past. When the going gets tough, I get on my mat and through those hard times, my routine got more and more solid. So much so that I Was seriously contemplating teaching myself. I know I’m not ready yet, but I definitely feel more confident after reading this. It’s one that I’ll keep in my toolbox for a very long time!

Thank you Netgalley, Sage Rountree, and The Experiment for the ARC!

As someone who is on the fence about whether to pursue a yoga teaching career, this book was so helpful in laying out all of the factors to consider as well as giving people a sense of what it's like to be a yoga teacher. Starting with the most fundamental question of "why do you want to be a yoga teacher" all the way to the nitty gritty of talking about business cards, class pricing, and planning/sequencing, and all the steps in between. I know that I'll be re-reading this book and working with the workbook as well. Truly a must have for all prospective yoga teachers, or even current yoga teachers who may feel like they're stuck in a rut.

I'm a movement teacher and this book is brilliant!
It has the expected marketing advice, know your audience etc and a workbook with questions to think through.
But It is also littered with gems that I have written into a notebook to keep me inspired on tough days - my favourites are:
"do what you believe in, explain clearly why you believe it and your people will find you."
Your experiences and your history are key research - those are the things that give you the authority to develop your own niche.
Your authentic backstory will give you a sense of your why.
The lessons yoga has taught you are the ones you teach your students for example "find the right breath for now."
Know your privilege and be open to inclusivity, meet people where they are at the point of their need - rather than offering free classes at the studio.
When it's tough remember why you love yoga and why you became a teacher.
"As you move like a fish read the currents of the room."
"We start class on time to honour the teacher, we finish on time to honour the student"
This one is really worth getting if you are starting a yoga teaching journey.

This is an excellent resource for anyone who is interested in learning about the business side of being a professional yoga teacher. It provides a detailed step-by-step guide on how to build your own yoga business and various aspects of the yoga lessons itself that one might not have thought of.

Rountree gives a very good overview of the business side of yoga. I think that this book gives a very realistic view of the difficulty in beginning a yoga career, the fact that it works as a secondary income, and gives information about the over saturation of the field. I think that a lot of other books on yoga as a career are overly optimistic about the outcomes of teacher training. There is also a lot of good and usable information about how to start yourself on a path to begin teaching, marketing, and evolving your brand as yoga teacher.

This is a great book if you are considering a career in yoga or something similar. Lots of great ideas from how to advertise to how to conduct the class whether it is a large or small group. It gives you great insight into what you can expect if you haven’t taken the leap.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
