Although I didn't really like any of the characters I found this book gripping and twisty. Just when you think you know what's going on there is another shift in direction and then there is a final jerk at the end. I found Beth too needy and Danielle too OCD. All in all a good read.

This was a real page turner. It was such a twisty novel that had me thinking I knew what had happened but then doubting if I was right.

It's very well written and I'd love to read more from this author.

Beth is a therapist whose relationship has just ended in the aftermath of her partner Richard’s affair.
Danielle is a new client of Beth’s coming to her for marriage counseling.
They both have their secrets, but are these two women connected? If so, how?

Beth has struggled with her mental health before when the love of her life, Nick, died and now there are signs that it’s happening again. She’s unsure if she should trust her instinct that’s telling her someone is taunting her, or if she’s under so much stress that her mental health is truly suffering again.
Beth’s son Charlie had a few unexplained bruises, a prescription is misplaced, photographs removed are a few of the happenings that have her questioning things.

Danielle had a hard upbringing, anger issues, and a dysfunctional background. She’s struggling with her husband and desperately wants a baby. She begins seeing Beth for counseling, but why is she really there? Can Beth trust Danielle?

Ruth Heald knocked it out of the park with I Know Your Secret. You think you have everything figured out, but even if you do (you probably really don’t though) you’ll never know it because Ruth gives nothing away. For me, this was “unputdownable”.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I Know Your Secret by Ruth Heald was a fun book full of suspense. I was curious and engaged throughout and was kept guessing!

Beth is a marriage counselor whose serious boyfriend has just left her. She is trying to help a client of hers, Danielle, a clearly troubled woman with severe scarring on her face. Danielle is hoping to have a baby with her husband Peter but Beth thinks something more might be going on. And Beth is correct! Both Beth and Danielle have secrets and the reader doesn’t know who or what to believe.

Take a look:

You’re not who you say you are. Neither is she. She thinks she knows me. She believes my marriage is falling apart at the seams, that my husband can barely look me in the eyes. She thinks I’m desperate for a baby, that my longing for a family keeps me up at night. As much as I hate to admit it, all of this is true.

She thinks I listen to her advice, that I care about her opinion. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Because she has no idea who I am. She has no clue that I know everything.

I know her secret. I know that she did the unforgivable. I know how many lives she ruined. I know exactly what she did. And I’m here for her.

Such a wild ride, you will be glued to the pages! This will be published on June 10! This book is well worth $3.99 for your Kindle, pre-order right now.

This was a wild book! What drew me to it was the description and It did not disappoint. I loved the way the way the author went back and worth between characters. Great read!

I wanted to love this novel, but, unfortunately, I didn't. The novel does not live up to what I was expecting from the summary. The pace was a little slow and I expected more twists and turns. However, the writing is well done and I'd be willing to read another book by this author.

I really enjoyed this book! I think other readers will like how it alternates between both women’s points of view, and how twisted the plot becomes. Both of the main characters are complete opposites in many ways too, so its refreshing that they are more different than they are alike. Beth seems to be the more cautious, timid, dependent, and needy character, while Danielle seems to be more of an independent, strong willed (however nicely disguised), and secretive character. They do share some similarities though...but which one of them is the liar? Or are they both liars? It has a much deeper plot than that of a woman seeking revenge. Not only are you waiting to find out why, but the way the author put all the pieces together so unexpectedly made for an awesome story! I will definitely be looking into other books she has written! Thank you Netgalley, Ruth Heald, and Bookouture for allowing me the opportunity to review this copy for free. My review is voluntary, and is my honest opinion. I highly recommend it! Initially it just seems like two women with completely different stories to tell and their own unique set of problems, but the end results are much greater than you’d expect. I love how everything came together the way it did at the end.

Plot: Beth’s marriage was already falling apart, but she’s still shocked when her husband announces that he wants a divorce. She feels heart broken that she was willing to keep working on their marriage after he was the one who had had an affair. Although she was angry at him, she still loved him and clung to the hope that they would be able to work things out. She immediately finds out how hard it’s going to be doing everything on her own because she struggles to take care of their 4 year old son on her own while working full time too. Richard, her soon to be ex husband, is still involved in their lives because he wants to continue to be a big part of Charlie’s life (their son) and also because they need to sell the house they were living in. Beth is a counselor who works primarily with couples for marriage counseling in a spare room at her home specifically for her sessions. She loves what she does, but she has a questionable past. She was previously fired from her job as a teacher, and spent a good amount of time at a psych hospital in the years before she met Richard. While in college to become a counselor she met Richard when he was one of her teachers. The further along things move in their separation/divorce, the more Beth talks about the only other man she ever loved; Nick, who died tragically before she met Richard. As the days go by, Beth finds herself teetering on the edge of sanity more and more every day...evidence of her being a risk to her son starts to mount, and she’s starting to feel paranoid and delusional again (the same that she did when she first admitted herself to the psychiatric hospital). Is she seeing things and being too paranoid? Is there someone following her? Is she putting Charlie at risk? Is history repeating itself with her mental anguish the same way it did after Nick died? At what point is she confusing reality with paranoia, depression, and delusions?

Danielle: Danielle and her husband Peter have been having problems for a while, so Danielle decides to seek the help of a counselor for marriage counseling. The first few times she comes to Beth’s for counseling, her husband doesn’t come. Beth decides to let Danielle start therapy with her on her own to see if she can help her, despite her husband not coming, because she’s obviously dealing with trauma resulting from extreme facial burns, but also because she’s admitted to having a bad childhood. Beth genuinely feels sorry for Danielle because she has suffered from such traumatic burns to her face with scars that are very obvious. Aside from her husband, Danielle doesn’t have any close friends or relatives either to lean on for support. Beth can relate because she doesn’t have any close friends or relatives either. When Danielle frantically calls Beth asking for help one day, Beth feels trapped into helping her because she is afraid of the consequences Danielle may face if she doesn’t help her. Against her better judgement, she continues the counseling sessions with Beth because Peter abruptly starts showing up for counseling too. Danielle has wanted a baby so badly for so long, but Peter is confident that he doesn’t want a baby because of Danielles “anger problems.” This is a surprising revelation to Beth because she never saw any evidence of anger problems with Danielle, and Danielle had seemed so honest in wanting help and never mentioned problems with anger either. She had pointedly claimed that Peter was the one with anger problems. Who is telling the truth? Then Danielle and Peter share some news that makes Beth question her husbands unfaithfulness even more. Beth was informed of Richard cheating on her when she received anonymous pictures of him with another woman. Could this other woman be Danielle? Although their personalities are completely different, Danielle also starts to worry that someone is following her, and is also paranoid about things that could happen to her. She’s an attorney who defends clients as a charity. Although she believes her clients have justifiably done the things they’ve done, could one of their victims be following Beth to try to get revenge? Who is really following who?

Is Beth genuinely going to therapy because she is seeking help, or does she have ulterior motives? Is Beth honestly trying to help, or is she intentionally trying to cause friction in Danielle’s life?

The beginning of the book starts off with a fire...but who was involved in the fire? Was that the accident that caused Danielle’s injuries? Was it a fire set by one of the women as a final tipping point in seeking revenge again the other? Had someone else been following them, and set a fire in an attempt to kill one of them?

I Know Your Secret is a book about two women. Beth is a therapist and Danielle is the patient. Told from alternating points of view, Both women have differing memories of the same event. Lots of intrigue, especially toward the end. I enjoyed this book.

Totally sucked into this story that I could not put it down until I was done.
Beth is a marriage counselor, her long term partner Richard recently cheated on her, Leaving her to be full time primary parent to their son Charlie. Things in Beth’s life majorly change when she meets Danielle, face covered with burn scars, successful attorney trying to save her marriage and having a baby. But Danielle doesn’t share everything with Beth, like secrets from her past, tragic events with her parents and scars hidden on her wrists. The questions about Danielle’s life are many. What really happened at the BBQ the day she suffered third degree burns on her face? Is her husband trying to hurt her? Or is there something more she is just not sharing with Beth?

Beth has her own challenges. She is still mourning the loss of the love of her life Nick prior to meeting Richard. In the past she lost a teaching position she loved and ended up in the hospital because she was convinced someone was following her. Was someone actually following her then and is it starting again? Is someone trying to change the course of her life? Will Danielle tell her the truth? Is it possible Richards affair occurred with Danielle?

Gripping and absorbing. This book caught me right out of the gate and I found that I kept the kindle close by at all times to read “just one more chapter!” There were so many angles and directions that kept me guessing and reading with just one eye open! I don’t personally care for stories that set me on edge or make me so worried that something horrible is going to happen. This story did not do this but made me want to find out more. Who are these people and how do they fit in here. Realistic enough that it makes you look sideways at your neighbors. Very well written.. I highly recommend! #bookotoure #netgalley

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of I Know Your Secret.

This was a great book! I haven't read any of Heald's other books but will certainly be adding them to my TBR pile. I really enjoyed the writing style, the shift in POVs and the suspense. I love books where the chapter kind of ends with a little cliffhanger but you have to read a chapter from another person's POV before getting back to the cliffhanger. These kinds of books really keep my attention and leave me begging for me!! This is about Beth who is a psychologist in the early stages of a divorce and her new patient, Danielle who is having marital problems in regards to having a baby. You think Danielle is only seeing Beth to get her advice and find out how to deal with her husband, who isn't sure if he wants to have kids or not... But is that really why Danielle is seeing Beth?? There were so many little hints about Danielle's story not being completely accurate but it takes until the end to really figure out what her deal is. Beth also has some secrets in her past and each mention of them keeps you guessing what could've possibly happened... I have to admit, I did put two and two together a little before the big reveal BUT this book was still unputdownable. I mean that literally... I picked up yesterday at 23% complete and finished it 5 hours later! Pick it up, you won't be disappointed!

Beth is a therapist whose marriage has fallen apart after her husband's affair.
Danielle is a damaged woman who has had more than her fair share of tragedy.
As Beth provides therapy for Danielle, it is clear that both women have a dark past that they'd rather keep hidden at any cost. Lies, betrayal and manipulation ensure.

There were a lot of twists and turns in this novel.
The characters were well developed and human in their flaws, feelings and vulnerabilities.
There's a lot of dark here, but it's also fairly sentimental.

Why 3 stars? Because it's sentimental. Some people tick that way, I'm just not one of them so it's a personal bias. Also, the character of Beth didn't feel genuine. Therapist are more perceptive than most, but Beth was very naive and easily manipulated. Two things a therapist should never be.
Otherwise, this was a nice, twisty and dark story that I think fans of psychological thrillers will enjoy.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! I absolutely loved this deliciously dark psychological thriller! This storyline dipped into the dark recesses of our minds and hearts. How many secrets each and every one of us hold.
Brilliant job of weaving this story together. About the time I recovered from one twist another dark turn was right around the corner. Could not put this down! Definitely one of my top favorite reads.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A great read, such a roller coaster! It pulled me in from the first page worth its twists and turns. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to others!

I Know Your Secret by Ruth Heald is my favorite kind of book a psychological thriller with two unreliable narrators. I was hooked by this book almost immediately, and I didn't want to read anything else until I finished. I found the writing to be very good, the characters had separate voices and I really felt like I could see them. They were both flawed and misinformed which I really liked and I felt sorry for both of them. There wasn't really a stunning twist but there were enough loose ends to keep me wondering what was actually going on. I would read more from Ruth Heald

Aside from my initial intrigue after reading the synopsis of this book, I wasn’t’t sure what to expect going in. But I ended up really enjoying this book. It was a solidly written, fast paced thriller, filled with suspense, mystery, and so many twists that you never see coming. This book had me hooked from start to finish, and I was pretty much gripping my iPad the entire time I was reading it, as the suspense definitely had me on the edge of my seat. What else can you really ask for in a thriller novel, right??

This novel is told in alternating chapters and POVS from two women, Danielle and Beth.

Beth is a woman in her 40’s, mother of one, and recently dumped by her long-time boyfriend Richard, who also recently cheated on her. Beth is trying to hold the pieces of her crumbling life together while also trying to raise their son, Charlie, and manage her career as a marriage counselor. It’s through her career that she meets our other main character, Danielle.

Danielle is a successful, hardworking lawyer, who has a face covered in burn scars after an accident (or was it?). She seeks counseling from Beth in an attempt to salvage her marriage with her husband, Peter, who she is also desperate to have a baby with. But there is also a lot more layers to Danielle, and a lot more lurking beneath the surface, and a whole lot of secrets that she is hiding. She hides and conceals many things from Beth in their counseling sessions, such as her secret past, tragic events about her parents lives, and the scars she tries to hide on her wrists. What exactly is truly going on with Danielle? Does someone hurt her? Was the accident that led to the permanent scars on her face truly an accident? Or did her husband intentionally let the “accident” happen at their garden BBQ so she suffered from third degree burns? Does she keep even shadier things from Beth? What’s truly lurking beneath the surface?

Beth isn’t exactly innocent or forthcoming either, as she is harboring a deep well of secrets of her own. She still grieves the loss of an ex love named Nick, whom she considers to be the love of her life; A man she knew before meeting Richard. She was fired from a teaching job she loved and cherished and ended up being hospitalized due to the fact that she was having delusions about someone stalking her. But was she actually delusional? Or was there more to it? Did someone orchestrate it in order to change the path in which she was on in life? And does Danielle have something to do with all of this? Is she the one Richard had an affair with?

Clearly, Both women are damaged in their own ways with things that have happened to them, have some issues (to say in the least), and baggage that they are clearly dealing with. Both women have secrets hidden away inside of them, and when their stories intersect, we know that there is something that is going to come about between them, but just not what or why.

This story is full of twists and turns, and takes us on a crazy ride of lies, betrayal, revenge, and all kinds of devious plotting and happenings. Just when I thought I had it figured out, another twist was thrown into the story. I wasn’t sure who to believe and what was real because I kept changing my mind in regards to what was going on in the story.

This book really took me by surprise, and was thoroughly entertaining the entire way through.

Excellent plot as far as psychological thrillers go! It keeps you questioning Beth and Danielle’s motives right up until the truth is revealed.

Highly recommend!

A bold, unique, edge-of-your-seat thriller. Just when you think you have an idea of the truth, something unravels and new parts of the story are discovered.

Beth is a therapist with a failing relationship after her husband was discovered to be having an affair. Danielle is her client who seeks help for what is seemingly an abusive or failing relationship and her desire to be a mother, something she's jealous of Beth for already being. The point-of-view in this story switches every chapter between Beth and Danielle, and as it does we learn new facts about their lives, their secrets, and their lies- and how they all might be connected.

I Know Your Secret was an amazing, well-executed thriller. With every chapter finished I was eager to read more to see what would happen next. The narrative never dragged and I never lost interest. At one point, almost to the climax of the story, my heart actually felt like it dropped as a bombshell was dropped. Ruth Heald told an incredible story and I can't recommend this enough. Heald has made me want to read more thrillers.

An incredible amount of thanks to Ruth Heald, Bookouture, and Netgalley, for allowing me the pleasure of reading this DRC for an honest review. I couldn't put this book down.
