Not my cup of tea I'm afraid. I can' t imagine what it must be like to find out a parent isn't actually a parent but I didn't feel any of this was realistic and what Eleanor did was just awful! it was interesting to see how she acted and see what she did do, I felt sad about her father dying and what she went through then however and this part made me feel really emotional. What she does to the sister she never knew she had though.....

Eleanor Hardwicke is grieving the death of her Dad, but on the day he dies she finds out that he isn't her biological father. A dysfunctional relationship with her mother and curiosity about her real father leads her to discover a half sister, Victoria, who she befriends but things don't turn out the way she expects.
This is a story of compulsion, obsession and manipulation. It was a reasonably enjoyable read, although a bit far fetched and for the most part nothing really happened. I kept waiting for the action but it didn't kick off until the last 10% of the book. I didn't find the characters particularly appealing and so my sympathy for them was limited. A relatively quick read but overall, a little disappointing.

This novel is an entertaining, easy to read, page turner about a lonely and terribly insecure web-designer whose life starts to change after the death of her beloved father. Much of the novel read like chick lit or a modern-day Cinderella story, rather than a thriller, but about three quarters of the way through the plot really got going and I found it engrossing. Very hard to rate this novel as my views on it kept changing but, as the characters were a bit too unrealistic for me, closer to a 3 than a 4. Enjoyable but implausible.

A sincere thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for providing me with an ebook copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is not my usual genre, I’m more into romance stories and literary fiction however I wanted to take the opportunity to read something from outside my norm. And I am glad I did!! Thank you for opening up my mind to something totally different.

Well. It was FABULOUS! I enjoyed this story from the start, it was easy to read and had the usual frustrations of irritating family relationships. But then the bad decisions began. This was a great thriller - I hated the ending. But also loved the ending. It was one of those endings that I am still thinking about days later. Would recommend highly.
Thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

So she then seeks out to find who her biological father actually is she then finds out he is very wealthy and a proud husband and a father to a little girl named Victoria so she makes some decisions in which she regreats and pays for...😩

Eleanor is determined to meet her sister.. she never knew she had.. but they meet and she realises that her sister actually has some issues which include relationship ones.❤️so she needs help but she has been poorly abused, traumatized poor etc, she will do anything to help her but many twists turns and surprised that turn their way..

Premise sounded good but I am afraid just did not deliver for me. I found it a bit of a slog and I skim read parts. Sorry sadly just not for me. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

An interesting but sad book, you knew how things were going to turn out in the beginning bringing even deeper sadness to Eleanour. I can't believe what a detestible mother she had, I wanted things to improve so badly for her. Suddenly there are new opportunities in her desolute life, new family members and in particular a wealthy, pretty and successful sister, everything that Eleanour isn't.

Eleanor’s beloved father is dying of cancer, just before he passes, she finds out that he is not her biological father, and she was the result of an affair. Eleanor sets out to discover the family that was concealed from her; she finds her half-sister, Victoria, and is compelled to get to know her better, from afar.
There were many elements to this dark, twisted psychological thriller.
I want to thank NetGalley, Hodden and Staughton and author Hannah Mary McKinnon for a pre-publication copy to review.

This was a twisty psychological drama that had me on the edge of my seat! I kept going through the possibilities of how it was going to end, and there were a few details I did not see coming at all.

It was a great novel that I enjoyed reading.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley.

Very good book. How horrible to realise someone you have worshipped is not your read dad. Very sad in parts but sometimes very far fetched but still enjoyable

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it kept me gripped throughout it was I admit a little far fetched in parts but it still made a good read. Lots of twists in this story some I figured out and some I didn’t, the characters were not at all likeable but I think that actually added to my enjoyment and kept me turning the pages.
It’s a difficult book to describe as I wouldn’t put it as a thriller it’s more of a twisty domestic story but it was one that kept me reading and I was surprised at the ending also. So for me a three star read that I can recommend as I can’t say I didn’t like the book I did I just didn’t love it.
My thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Couldn't get into this. I didn't care for any of the characters, and this genre has such high competition. I don't feel like it was anything special to what I've read before. Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this.

Sister Dear is a dark, twisty and compelling read that will make the hairs on the back of your arms stand up. A fast paced page turner that you will find hard to put down.

This started off so well, but, then I’m afraid it meandered along and was a difficult book to finish.

Eleanor is incredibly close to her dad, who is dying of pancreatic cancer. Then she hears him and her cold and heartless mother discussing the fact that he isn’t her biological father.

What follows is a family drama with pantomime baddies that is very over dramatic although there are twists and turns as Eleanor discovers another half sister, in addition to Amy, who she grew up with and who was always her mother’s favourite.

It’s an OK read and I did really enjoy the first few chapters, but, overall it was a bit of a slog.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview.

Where do I start? Seriously, Sister Dear is one dark and twisted psychological thriller and I couldn't put it down! I stayed up way to late to start and finish it last night, so today I am looking a bit like a panda! But it was absolutely worth it. This was my first Hannah Mary McKinnon book and will not be my last, in fact I have already ordered 2 more of her books.

Eleanor Hardwick is devastated when her father is diagnosed with cancer and is given 4 months to live. She is especially close to him as her mother has always put her down and favoured her sister, an actress in LA. She overhears her parents talking on her way to visit him in the hospice and learns that he is not her biological father. She is heartbroken and angry. When he dies she sets out to learn about her other family and find that they live in the same part of Portland as she does. She discovers that she has a half sister Victoria who is everything she isn't - glamourous, wealthy, married and successful. And loved by both her parents. She has to get to know her so sets out a plan to infiltrate Victoria's life.

This was such an addictive and original story with an ending that absolutely blew my mind! A story of greed, grief and jealousy - you need to read this book!

Thank you to Hodder and Stoughton for my advanced copy of this book tp read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

Sister Dear!! What a plot I was near the end before I realised that all is not what it seems.
Eleanor loses the man that she adores ,her Dad, dealing with all the grief after she finds out he is not her biological father. She doesn’t get on with her Mother and Sister so sets of in search of the loving family that she has always wanted and deserves because she is a nice hard working person who always seems to get the mucky end of the stick.
Life takes an upward turn she has a half sister who she is getting to know and new boyfriend to share her life with and all looks good.
But you don’t see this coming ……………..edge of the seat “No that can’t happen” was just one of my reactions.
Recommend this as a great weekend read tuck up with a gin and chocolate for rollercoaster read

First book that I have read by this author, it was an ok read but I didn’t really find it gripping. The main character frustrated me for the first half of the book and just wanted her to pull herself together! And also some of her actions were very unbelievable and didn’t seem to fit with the character that the author was trying to portray . The first half of the book was a little slow, But what I did like was that the Very end was totally different to what I was expecting And was left where a follow up would be a great addition

Eleanor Hardwicke overhears something devastating between her beloved dying father Bruce and his ex wife Sylvia, who is Ellie’s mother. This turns her world upside down and nothing will be the same again. She learns that Bruce is not her father and when she seeks out her biological father, she finds he is wealthy, a devoted husband and father to Victoria. Eleanor makes some decisions that she will live to bitterly regret and pay dearly for.

The power of the novel lies in the portrayal of the characters who are so well described. Eleanor, though naive and though she doesn’t always do the right thing, she has good intentions and is very likeable. He mother Sylvia has undermined all her confidence and feelings of self worth over the years which leads to bouts of binge eating. As the story progresses, Eleanor is able to throw off her ugly duckling shackles and a more confident swan emerges. Eleanor meets neighbour Lewis who is an extremely likeable character with the added bonus of being a bit phawww! Sylvia is the only weak character in my opinion as she feels like a stereotype and as for Victoria, what can I say about her. Let’s settle for a manipulative chameleon. The novel is well written, the plot is good with the right pace. There’s tension, suspense, oodles of buried secrets, guilt, greed, anger and evil which makes for s gripping storyline. I did see the ultimate twist coming as the signs are there but that doesn’t detract from enjoyment.

Overall, a gripping, enjoyable read.

With thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for the ARC.
