Non Pratt is a name I keep seeing in my school library so when I had the opportunity to read an early copy of, 'Every Little Piece of my Heart,' I was really excited, especially as the cover is so very beautiful and the blurb super intriguing. The story certainly has an air of mystery surrounding it. In the opening pages we discover that a girl called Freya has left town and at the same time sent a parcel to a group of people, one person at a time, along with letters.

The story is about friendship, acceptance and understanding. It is coined as being quite funny which I did not personally feel but I very much liked the idea of one person bringing together a group of people who ordinarily may not have met. There is an abundance of characters in the narrative, too many for my tastes maybe which I think stopped me fully connecting with the story as a whole. The chapters are told from the perspectives of all the various characters. Win and Sophie are the two who the reader gets to know first and, hand on heart, I really wanted more from them and found myself longing to get back to their chapters whenever the narrative focused on other characters. They both had interesting back stories and real-life situations that they were dealing with and I definitely wanted them to have more page time. They had so much potential and I would have really like to see those characters and their relationship developed further.

I think teenagers who like to read about characters with real life issues and scenarios will probably enjoy the easy going narrative and will engage well with the story and probably will enjoy the aspect of multiple characters, their ‘high school’ drama and the air of mystery that the pages of this novel convey.

I've never actually read one of Non Pratt's books (shameful I know!) but this one really stood out for me as one I'd love to read! I was not disappointed; I flew through this book and really loved the characters who were all so different and interesting. It has been one of the best books I've read this year, which was such a nice surprise, and stands out as a really good UKYA book.

This book was fabulous - loved the storyline and how the story unravelled with the parcel - great mystery and dealing with illness too

Non Pratt can write YA contemporary and reel you in with real issues. EVERY LITTLE PIECE OF MY HEART was a story about friendships and misconceptions. The story centred on a group of friends, some more connected than others and what happened when one friend linking the others went away.

It was a bit mysterious with a parcel moving from friend to friend, with Sophie and the others trying to put the pieces together. This was an engaging story but I did put it down for a good few weeks before finishing it today. I think that was partly my mood but also it lost a bit of traction for me mid-way.

This story brought some great chronic illness rep that is definitely needed and often completely missing from YA in particular. I thought this aspect was particularly well written and sensitively so.

This might not be my favourite Non Pratt book, but it was still a strong and solid read.

Thank you to Walker Books for the early review copy.

Real Rating: 3.5 stars

Non Pratt is a staple name in UKYA and I was excited to read her latest novel Every Little Piece of Heart. It sounded like the perfect contemporary read and one I would become invested in.

This is ultimately a story of friendship, love, understanding and embracing who you are. Our four main characters Sophie, Win, Lucas and Ryan are all pulled together after each receiving a package from Freya, who moved away five months prior. We see each of them try to understand why Freya sent them a package and how they have adjusted to life without her. I did like that we don’t see any of them interact with Freya after receiving the parcel, but we get her backstory through a series of flashbacks, which, I feel was the right way to tell her story. However, I feel like we could have done with learning a bit more about Freya and her life as in my opinion we didn’t seem to get much of that through the flashbacks. In particular, I would have liked to have gone more in-depth into her relationships with her family, and also her boyfriend Kellan.

With regards to our four main characters I noticed that we got a more detailed image of the lives of Sophie and Win, and don’t get me wrong I loved finding out about their lives and getting into their innermost thoughts, but it would have been nice to learn more about Lucas and Ryan. For example, it would have been interesting to maybe have some flashbacks to Lucas’s life before he met Freya, or learn about Ryan and how he came to be so full of rage.

One thing I will commend Every Little Piece of My Heart for is its amazing diverse representation. We have disability rep, which included Sophie living with Lupus, a chronic illness. I knew next to nothing about Lupus before reading this, but it has encouraged me to research into it. We don’t see enough YA with the representation of a chronic illness so this stood out to me. We also have LGBTQ+ rep and POC within the story. I applaud Non for adding this into Every Little Piece of My Heart and I hope that we get more YA with this amount of diversity.

Every Little Piece of My Heart overall, was a heartwarming story all about acceptance, the meaning of friendship and ultimately learning to love who you are.

Every Little Piece Of My Heart by Non Pratt had the premise for an interesting book, but it did not live to the expectations I had for it, but that does not mean it is a bad book. It was not for me that’s all. I found it lengthy and I did not like most of the characters. It somewhat reminded me of Paper Towns and I did not like that book to put it shortly. The redeeming ingredient of this, alas, uninviting story were the Su sisters and their compelling energy. And, between the two siblings, Sunny won everything with her effervescence and her dislike of Tony Stark, which was completely on point!

In conclusion, if you like multiple points of views, stories about friendships and starting anew, Every Little Piece Of My Heart may be the book for you.

I love Non Pratt's writing and I wasn't disappointed by this latest offering. Sophie gets a parcel from her friend Freya, who has recently left town. Inside she hopes is an explanation for why she left, but instead finds a letter for another person - Win, a girl Freya barely knew. Or did she? There are more letters for others inside the parcel, and so a group of acquaintances come together to try and figure out Freya and her actions. All of the characters are well written and unique. Win and Sunny are particular favourites, providing laughs amongst the more serious parts of the story, which covers everything from friendship, illness, identity, love and loss. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

The blurb of this really intrigued me and it gave off 13 reasons why vibes without such a dramatic reason behind it. Sophie's best friend Freya has up and left and she hasn't heard a peep from her untill a parcel arrives for her. Sophie is hoping that Freya is finally reaching out and is disappointed when it turns out she's reaching out to some other seemingly random people too through Sophie. This starts off just being told from Sophie and Wins point of view and I was glad when Lucas and Ryan pov got introduced as it made it a bit more interesting. I liked the diversity of the characters and the mystery of the story line but I just felt like something was missing. Overall it was an ok read. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I was a younger reader

‘Every Little Piece Of My Heart’ starts with Sophie receiving a package from her best friend Freya (who recently moved away without telling anyone the reason she was leaving and has not been in contact with anyone since she left). This package contains another package each for a Win, Lucas and Ryan, which leads these characters to become involved in each other’s lives.

I liked some aspects of this book but overall, the book felt a bit boring and I found myself putting this book down and not having the urge to pick it up again because I simply was not interested in the story that much. For the first half of the book I was really intrigued to know what was inside all of these packages that Freya had sent to Sophie, Win, Lucas and Ryan, but once those reveals had happened, I felt myself not really caring about what was going to happen next because I did not really care for the characters. I also felt the ending was a bit boring, but I did like how it was an open ending and could be interpreted however you want.

However, I did enjoy the way this story was told. I liked how we got the perspective of Sophie, Win, Lucas and Ryan, and I liked how the book flipped between present day and the past so that we could see what had led to Freya leaving. I also really liked Sunny. Although she was not one of the main four characters, I felt like she was my favourite character and the only one I really cared about. I liked seeing the relationship between Sunny and Lucas develop throughout the book.

‘Every Little Piece Of My Heart’ is a book about friendships and learning to accept people no matter who they are. I think this book is perfect for fans of ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ by Morgan Matson and anyone who loves reading about a friendship group.

When Sophie’s best friend Freya moves to Manchester very suddenly with no explanation, she is devastated. Already dealing with constant pain from her newly diagnosed medical condition, she cannot understand why Freya is ignoring her messages. When a parcel arrives for her, she hopes the contents will explain everything, but instead they contain messages for several others who cared for Freya and which Sophie has to deliver. Why? And what is the treasure at the end of this quest? Non Pratt has a sure feel for the issues, preoccupations and heightened emotions of teenagers and her empathy is very evident in this book. Her characters offer a range of diverse young adult experiences- coming out as gay, being the poor relation, relationships with family, racial identity and bullying. Unusually, Sophie also deals with chronic illness, quite an unusual portrayal in YA fiction.. What the characters have in common is their need to be accepted for who they really are, instead of having to play a part in order to fit in, something that will strike a chord with many young readers. Each has their own distinct personality rather than being stereotypical, and they all reach a new understanding of themselves and each other in a way that offers hope while remaining realistic.

So even though I’m already in college I still love to read sometimes a good YA, to bring back good memories.
Sadly this book wasn’t for me, I think that if I hd read it some years ago I would have liked it more.

This is beautiful, heartbreaking, uplifting and just, well bring tissues you will need them. I absolutely loved the authors note before the book and it’s just wonderful to read a book about someone with chronic illness being represented. I loved how much this emphasises and focuses on the difference that one person can affect others lives, the love, the friendship, very It’s a Wonderful life (I mean that in a very positive way, I love that film and the difference people make to the world, to people who love them is so massive it needs to be used and shown far more) I mean it’s not the same per se, but you get my point. Friendships matter, they mould is, make us and they are the family we choose for ourselves. This was beautifully written and a powerful story. I also loved reading about British people for a rare change. Fabulous and thoroughly recommended

Sophie unexpectedly gets a package from her best friend, Freya, who has moved away - leaving without farewell or explanation. Disappointingly, it contains a letter which Sophie has to deliver. This starts a circle of messages and meetings that explore friendship, memory and who Freya really was.

I love Non Pratt's writing, she has a great ear for the rhythms and conversations of young people. Every Little Piece of My Heart is full of beautifully observed moments, and the characters are fascinating. I just wanted to spend more time with them all.

I just finished #EveryLittlePiece by @NonPratt, another brilliant contemporary #UKYA. Non writes the best characters & complicated friendships, & this story really didn't go where I expected at the beginning. Brilliant #LGBT rep & a feel for what it is like living with #lupus https://t.co/6TNMkju8Yp

Telling the story of Sophie, Win, Sunny, Lucas and Ryan, a group of teens, who don't really know each other, brought together by a parcel that's arrives addressed to one of them and then once opened addressed to the next (think parcel the parcel) sent from Freya, a girl who they all knew, but who left suddenly without telling anyone and hasn't been in contact since, until this parcel puzzle arrives bringing chaos, confusion and personal items wrapped with each layer and a promise of treasure at the end. Leaving the group to decipher the intentions of the sender, unveiling secrets and showing the many sides of Freya.

The plot is what drew me to this book, I immediately wanted to know what was inside the mysterious parcel and what each "gift" meant to its recipient. I liked that with each unwrapping we learnt about a new character, and how they were connected with Freya, in turn allowing us to learn more about her. Sunny although not a recipient of the parcel was one of my favourites, she was fun and fiesty and really stood out, along with Sophie, who although struggling with a chronic illness was dedicated to looking for answers about her best friend. The storyline was well executed and I enjoyed the friendship that developed between the group. I'm wondering if there is a possibility that Pratt left the ending open the way she did, so there's room for another book?

*Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review!*

I was literally so excited for this when I got approved. I’ve read most (if not all) of Non Pratt’s books and she’s such an undeniable talent in the UKYA community. Naturally, when she announced her newest novel, I was so excited. But unfortunately it was one of those books that just seemed to lack something that made it hard for me to love it as much as I thought I would have.

Every Little Piece of My Heart follows the story of four different teenagers, after a girl Freya leaves with no explanation and she links them all in strange ways, one’s a best friend, one’s her neighbour, one’s her work mate and the fourth is her secret love interest. Each of them receive a letter from Freya and they have to try piece together what they meant to Freya and why she really left. The concept of this book was so strong and interesting from the get go.

What I liked most about this was the four characters. That’s certainly the strength of Pratt; she’s one of those YA writers that can really capture the essence of a teenager. All of her characters were so authentic, so realistic and each of them had such strong personalities that I really enjoyed reading them. Characters are definitely one of the most important components to a book for me personally – I have to like the characters and enjoy reading their story first and foremost.

I also loved how diverse this was. Pratt brings a heap of different identities to her four central characters – from gay to Chinese to a main character with lupus. I loved seeing this representation of a disabled character, it’s not something you see often and it’s clear Pratt did her research!

But I think the thing that disappointed me most about this book was the plot. I felt like not much happened over the course of the book, and I was expecting more from the reason why Freya just left her friends with not any warning. I think this had great potential to be one of Pratt’s bests but sadly it got lost somewhere along the middle.

Every Little Piece of My Heart was a book I wanted to love, but found myself unable to. I’m not sure if it’s due to the fact it’s not my age, and is written in the style for teenagers.
I didn’t connect with the characters all that much, and for me when I struggle with that, everything else becomes a bit harder.

What I will commend it for is it’s diversity, although I can’t comment on its accuracy. It’s clear the author did research, and took the time to make flesh the characters out. I think if I was younger, and maybe a teenager this book would have been far more enjoyable.

The pacing was good, the writing itself good, I just don’t think this book is written for me - which can happen, and takes nothing away from the book itself. For me, it’s just too “high-school” but I think they’ll be plenty of fans of this, and I’ll still recommend it to those I think will enjoy it.

I’d like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.

I loved loved loved all the characters but especially Sophie as I related to her chronic illness symptoms a lot which is why I think I started and finished this within a matter of hours.

Yet again the way Non writes is so powerful. The fact it was written from 4-5 point of views didn’t make the plot confusing at all. I also loved the fact we got a sense of Freya in the bits that were written before she left.

The friendships , family and romance throughout were very realistic of being a teenager. It showed the highs and lows and how ultimately not everyone is who they seem. So to see the main 4 become closer near the end was heartwarming.

It also has many LGBTQ+ characters and what I particularly liked for a change was the fact it wasn’t the main plot of the story.

I will be recommending this book to all my friends.

You must read Non Pratt’s amazing unique love story, suitable for all ages. Freya, now missing, arranges for four relative strangers to meet but will they clash or will they form a long lasting bond.

A real mix of characters who you will love and dislike at the same time. The central Character of Freya is someone we never get to meet and only learn about through her friends.

A great coming of age tale which also highlights Lupus (and other autoimmune diseases) as well as tackling same sex relationships and anxiety. A great Young adult novel which many will relate to.
