This was a very quick read. The initial couple of chapters were a little confusing but then the book picked up speed along with the relationship of Nicholas and Georgie.
I have to say one of my favourite characters was the cat and the consequences of its actions.
I found this a very interesting take on medicine in history, and it's worth reading for that aside.

Julia Quinn is an autobuy author for me. You can guarantee that every book she writes is going to be pure magic to read, and this is no exception. I adore her books, I love the world she's created and peopled with human and wonderful characters, and each book is a gift.

This book was hugely enjoyable. It is full of hilarious scenes, and I really felt like Georgie and Nicholas were well suited to each other. They seem to actually listen to each other, unlike some characters. The epilogue was lovely, and definitely needed to tie up the loose ends left at the conclusion of the final chapter. The sex scenes are definitely very steamy, but they do move the plot along, and are not just there for titillation.
Overall, this was a humorous and romantic story, perfect to relax with, with a satisfying happy ending.
I was given a free copy of this book, my opinions are my own.

First Comes Scandal is an absolute delight to read of two individuals who know their whole lives—friends to lovers and were pressed into a situation they find jarring. A story to save one's reputation to falling in love while travelling across England and finally settling at home. I couldn't simply stop reading as I was enraptured from beginning to end.
I saw the cover first while I was scrolling through Netgalley and that was the thing that piqued my interest most. I didn't have to read the synopsis and just knew that I had to request it and thankfully, I was approved. So I went into this story blindly and without any expectations but I really ended up enjoying this story so much.
The pace of this story is seriously wonderful from finding out about the scandal, the proposal and the marriage itself. Their banter was hilarious and they can just be very silly with one another and no one will get their inside jokes. Their chemistry is no joke and I really love how they came about from childhood friends or also family friends to a couple who will be side by side for a lifetime.
This book also covers the medical scene as Nicholas is still a struggling medical student. And they are just perfect for each other as Georgiana is also very interested in medicine but unfortunately women didn't have the opportunity at the time and were even looked down upon. We have come a long way have since then...
I seriously cannot recommend this book enough and its still packed with so much within the pages. Sometimes the one you're destined to be with is right there in front of you and even if certain circumstances didn't bring you closer but eventually you'll still find that love in time.

Another Julia Quinn novel is always cause for rejoicing. Warm characters, strong family and friend relationships and a light touch that keeps you hooked. Any Quinn fan will enjoy this, however if you haven't read her before I would suggest giving yourself a treat and starting at the beginning of the series. That way you get all the fun of the various romances that have gone before, because as it's a series based on family there are lots of spoilers which can't be avoided when reaching the end of a series. Thanks to Piatkus and Netgalley for providing the free ARC in return for an unbiased review.

Another delight of a book from Julia Quinn. I love her style of romance full of wit and lightness.
Very entertaining if you like the genre.
Thanks a lot to NG and the publisher for this copy.

Another tantalising romance laced with an abundancenof wit & humour! The entire Bridgerton series is a feel-good delight.

What a cheering and escapist read! A regency romp, deliciously sexy and romantic. A hint of scandal, a respectable and upstanding man and a happy ever after...
A Heyer novel for 21st century readers. Very enjoyable.

First comes scandal
I have waited soooooooo long for this book to come out.
Wow brilliant, love the dry humour and wit between the characters...
I loved that the friendship they had turned into more .
Looking forward to future stories between the Bridgertons and Rokesbys .

First Comes Scandal is the first book I've read by Julia Quinn. I understand it's part of a series, but I don't think I missed out on anything, as the two main characters are well introduced in the first few pages.
The novel has a delightful combination of being rooted in the conventions of the time (late 1700's), and yet the characters feel modern and this is reflected in their speech and thoughts.
A delightful read that could have easily been much longer. I will be reading more by the author.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my review copy.

I absolutely love Julia Quinn's books and when Netgalley gave me the chance to review this book I was delighted. I loved the link to the bridgertons and very much enjoyed the way the story moved reasonably slowly, I hate when the protagonists fall totally in love in the first 20 pages. i found the characters well described and was disappointed to reach the end of the story, I would love to know what happened next. in the current climate just the type of book I needed.

I confess that I’m torn as regards this book. On the one hand, I have never seen such carelessness in any author’s work. On the other, it was a wonderful feel-good book that made me laugh many times.
Carelessness? Georgie’s sister is famous for setting a fellow debutante on fire. Perhaps this tendency to arson runs in the family? In this book, Georgie grabs a candlestick to see what was happening outside her window but, as it’s still too dark to see, tucks the candlestick under her arm and uses both hands to wrench the window up. If I did that in a nightdress with a lit candlestick tucked under my arm, I suspect I’d be on fire too.
Georgie rolled her hands […] in a rough approximation of a verbal tumbleweed. The word “tumbleweed” was first noted in the US in the 1880s. It wasn’t a noun used in Georgian England.
“Goddamn this made her angry” – again, Goddamn is much more popular in the US than in England and I suspect it really wasn’t a word that would spring to mind in Georgian England.
Sometimes, though, the anachronisms, e.g. Georgie’s “Like. Hell.”, and the book’s self-awareness, e.g. when Georgie realises, to her dismay, she’s thinking in italics, are so bladder-squishingly funny.
I still giggle uncontrollably when I recall the scene involving the butlers from the two big houses. Those (what, maybe nine?) pages alone are worth the price of the book.
I expected the book to be very similar to a Georgette Heyer, an author I love. I thought it would be a light romance – perfectly pleasant, but not vastly different to many other books. How wrong I was. First Comes Scandal is far far better than that (and with a lot more sex than Georgette Heyer!).
I can easily forgive the carelessness because of the sheer unalloyed joy the book gave me. This is a wonderfully cheerful book - especially for these strange locked-down times when we all need something to smile about. (This review was written in April 2020.) Since I want to give it six stars, I’ll let my quibbles reduce my score to five. And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to read it again…

This book is like a ray of sunshine. Engaging characters and so so funny. Not a typical regency romance but an excellent read.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an early copy.
An absolute delight to read!
Main characters were immensely likable, their conversation and banter flowed very well.
All the tension and feelings between them felt natural, and delicious. I stayed up way past my bedtime reading it,
Recommend it.

I voluntarily read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
I absolutely LOVE Julia Quinn's books and was thrilled to be able to read this
I have been lucky enough to read the series of Bridgerton books and this is a prequel to these and did not disappoint
Loved the writing, great characters
if you like historical romance you can do no better than pick up Julia Quinn's books

Georgie Bridgerton is caught at a time where her reputation is ruined by the whim of an unscrupulous man. This is a prequel to the wonderful characters of the Bridgerton family. Victorian England a time of great change but not yet for Georgie she can only rely on a man to come forward and marry her. In steps Nicholas Rokesby longtime family friend but being pressured by his parents to come forward and save her good name. This story has the high standards of the Bridgerton stories with family events and well thought out characters you can relate to. Strong characters come alive off the page Georgie is not going to be a pushover and Nicholas will find his marriage of convenience will be so much more.
I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
