Lovely story that kept me involved from start to finish. Definitely recommended to those readers who enjoy reading this type of book.

I adore Sally what a feisty, independent young woman she is who will stop at nothing to help family and friends and save her beloved horse. Yet again Dilly has created strong, viable characters and another brilliant storyline. Couldn't put this book down.

#RagandBoneChristmas This is a typical #DillyCourt story. Fans will not be disappointed. It’s a story of hardship and struggle for our heroine Sally Suggs. She lives and works with her father as a rag and bone collector in London in 1865. Life is tough and it’s a struggle but it’s not all doom and gloom and there are lovely people to meet here who come into Sally’s life at different stages. It’s a heartwarming story and ideal for a Christmas read.

Sally Suggs works alongside her father Edward on his rag and bone round in Paradise row, London.

After realising he is finding the rounds harder and harder and suffering ill health Sally is determined to take over the round so he can stay at home and rest. They have a rival Rag and bone man Finn Kelly, who at first we think is a rogue but as the book unfolds it becomes clear this is not the case and he spends evenings keeping her dad company.
Her mum died years ago leaving just the two of them, the only thing she has left of any value is her mothers' prized thoroughbred horse (flower) which is worth a small fortune and whom Sally will never part with no matter how hard up they become, however on the horizon unscrupulous men have their eye on her.

Sally is a kind generous soul who takes in 3 young boys whose father is a bullying drunk.

Such a heartwarming story just right for Christmas, it had twists and turns and kept me wanting to read to find out what came next. I love Dilly Court books and this one didn't let me down.
So worth 5 stars and more.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this lovely book. xx

Sally worked with her father on the rag and bone cart very hard work but she never complained but her dad was poorly and Sally was finding it hard plus she helped anyone she could like 3 young boys she looked out for. A really great book with lots of twists and turns

I’ve read lots of books by Dilly Court and always enjoy them, this book was no exception. Sally helps her dad on a rag & bone round. A series of misfortunes leaves Sally trying to earn enough money to look after her dad and keep a roof over their heads. Sally’s mum had died but left her a very special valuable Andalusian horse. Sally can’t bear to sell her but some bad people try to steal the horse. Will Sally have to sell her to keep her safe or perhaps she can use her horse to become a performer like her mum, she dreams of this but will it ever happen?

A book on its own so no need to have previously read a series although all Dilly Courts books are great. Although this one has Christmas in its title it’s not a book totally covered in that time of year but does conclude there. Based on the life of a rag and bone family the book journeys with Sally and several men she loves, she befriends, she works with and one who becomes her husband. Easy to read with manageable chapters. Thanks Dilly Court and NetGalley.

What a beautiful story! Sally is a wonderful character, strong and sure and willing to do whatever she must to keep her family safe and fed. The setting was very vivid, and the portrayal of poverty in Sally's area was very emotional, and at times hard to read, especially considering the book is set at Christmas. But the way everyone stands together and helps each other was so heartwarming, especially when you consider everything that is going on in the world nowadays - it's inspiring to see others love and care for each other so fiercely.

This is exactly what you expect from a Dilly Court book - loveable characters, a bit of drama, a heartfelt romance, and a happy ending. What more could you want?

Disclaimer - I was fortunate enough to be provided with an advance reading copy of this book by NetGalley. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own.

Sally is finding life really tough when her dad who works as a rag and bone man starts to struggle, and she finds herself trying to support them both. She fears losing a lot of trade to their rival. When disaster strikes, help comes from unexpected quarters.
You feel the struggles of the day, the lovely strong relationships, and her love for her horses. I love Dilly Court books and this one was a real treat.

An excellent story, engaging and highly entertaining.
A vivid and well researched historical background, well developed characters and a tightly knitted plot.
The author is a talented storyteller and the story kept me hooked. I learned something new and rooted for the characters.
It's strongly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

As expected from Dilly, a great read, which left me wondering what would happen to the characters, thoroughly recommend this book.

Dilly Court is an author who I love to read. This is a great story but i did feel as if it was lacking on some of the details that Dilly Court is so good at.

The story is a great concept with Sally trying to look after her father and also her friend and three boys that need a home, but the storyline with Feather did feel to become repetitive an also i was left with questions at the end of the book, such as did Sally pay back the money did Gideon pay back Sally? Did Vassey and Collins get charged with the robbery of the horse and quite a few more.

So in all a great story it just lacked some of the finer details towards the end.

I really enjoyed reading this story, so many highs and lows, written with the dramatic backdrop of grimy London life.
Her love for her horse is total, and the lengths that she will go to for this animal is impressive.
I was never sure if she would ever meet the love of her life, or come to a dismal ending, but she endured it all, and came home triumphant.
Another fantastic read
