Even years after her abusive husband has died, Roisin is still lacking security and confidence. Moving away, and settling in a small Irish village, finally allows her to move forward, especially with the help of her neighbour, Mabel and Mabel's nephew Aidan. This was a great read, reminding us not to let the past control the present or the future.

Roisin and her little boy Ben moved to Ballybray after the death of her husband. They became very close to her neighbour Mabel and they develop a small family. Now Mabel has died and Roisin and Ben are devastated. The only family Mabel has left is her nephew Aidan in New York. Aidan arrives for the funeral and to wrap up Mabels affairs. While doing this he discovers that Mabel has left instructions for Roisin and himself to help them to get over the first year after her death. Will they manage to get through it? How will they get on?
I loved this heart warming story from Emma Heatherington. Mabel seems like a fantastic character and is very aware of how Aidan and Roisin will get on. She also ropes someone else into her plan which I loved. The description of Ballybray makes you want to move there
Thank you to Emma Heatherington, the publisher and Netgalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Thank you to Harper Collins and Emma Heatherington for the advanced review copy of Secrets in the Snow. This book is about Roisin O’Connor and her son Ben and their struggle to cope after loss in their lives. An unexpected new arrival fills that loss in a way that is both scary and exhilarating for Roisin. I enjoyed this book and found it easy reading. I got hooked into the story very quickly and although predictable at times, made me laugh and cry in equal measure. My only want from this book is that Roisin was more sure of herself and I found myself getting annoyed that she didn’t trust her gut more but I guess that is all part of the character development. Would recommend for a light hearted winter read.

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Brilliant book by Emma.

Roisin lives in Ballybray with her son Ben. When she moved into Ballybray her next door neighbour Mabel took her under her wing and helped her through some tough times. When Mabel dies from cancer Ben and Roisin are heartbroken and can’t see how they can come to terms with losing Mabel. Mabel’s nephew Aiden arrives from New York and thinks he wants to sell Mabel’s cottage and going back to New York. However Mabel has other ideas as she has left messages from beyond the grave. Will Aiden sell up or stay in Ballybray

This book was an enjoyable read.

Roisin and her son Ben have moved to the village of Ballybray, ready to make a new start after the death of her husband. When she moves there, her new next door neighbour takes them both under her wing and looks after them through the next difficult few months.

However the book starts just after Mabel has passed away and Roisin and Ben need to get used to life without their treasured neighbour. The book goes through the seasons of the first tear without Mabel and how they manage to do this, especially with Mabel's nephew Aidan now taking up residence in his Aunt's house!

I enjoyed this read, perfect for a bit of winter escapism. Thanks to Netgàlley and Harper Collins for an advance copy in return for an honest review.

I thought that this was a great book!

It was easy to read and understand and followed a storyline of overcoming fear and anxiety in learning to love again.

I thought that it was beautifully written and romance and understanding come together.

It is 5 stars from me for this one – a lovely book to read and one I will be very highly recommending – a gorgeous story!

This book was my first by this author and I’m certain it won’t be my last. The story was so moving, I went from smiling to shedding a few tears numerous times throughout it. The central character Roisin was so endearing, the flashbacks to her traumatic childhood and marriage were heartbreaking and her strength of character was inspiring. Aiden’s back story also was very hard hitting and the way the story was written through the changing seasons of a year had me hooked to the very end. I don’t want to give the plot away but through the sad circumstances of the story, and the vivid descriptions of the beautiful character of Mabel, Roisin and Aiden go on a journey of self discovery to deal with their past burdens and make positive changes in their lives. Beautiful story, I highly recommend.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Such a beautifully written book, with romance, heartbreak, family secrets, and the strong power of love.

When Roisin and her son Ben, move to a little cottage in Ballybray for a fresh start after the death of her husband, she finds her neighbour Mabel becoming her friend and confidante. Who motivates her whilst filling a very big void in both hers and her sons lives.

But, Mabel dies, leaving roisin and Ben grief stricken, unbeknown to Roisin, Mabel has left a legacy which involves her and her nephew Aiden.

Throughout the year, she receives gifts, notes and recorded messages at certain intervals, along with instructions for them both to carry out,.

It’s during this time they both become close but, as we all know, the path of true love never runs smoothly.

This is an engaging on/ off love story which is full of all the emotions, angst, fear, forgiveness and realisation.

I couldn’t put it down I was that engrossed in it.

I recommend it.

Roisin and her son Been move to the village of Ballybray after the death of her husband. She is taken under the wing of her elderly neighbour Mabel who helps her recover from the years of abuse, both physical and mental, that her husband had been subjecting her to. When Mabel sadly dies she meets Mabel's nephew Aiden when he returns from New York where he is a successful businessman for the funeral and to arrange the sale of the house. After a tricky start they start forming a friendship, reinforced by quarterly messages left by Mabel for them.
This a very emotional book, showing the long term damage that emotional and physical abuse causes and Roisin struggles to overcome her issues. Aiden also has issues with his job and marriage in NY, showing that money and success isn't everything. For me not a book to cheer me up due to the story content, but one to make you think what your actions and attitudes to other people may cause whilst hoping that these two can make the Happy Ever After happen that we all hope for when reading a romance.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

I enjoyed the last book by this author so was looking forward to this one and it doesn’t disappoint.

Roisin O’Connor lives with her son Ben in the small village of Ballybray. Next door lives larger than life Mabel who takes Roisin under her wing. When Mabel passes away, Roisin and Ben are inconsolable until the arrival of Mabel’s nephew Aiden from New York. From beyond the grave, Mabel has left them a series of messages that sets them on a course that she hopes will make their lives better.

A good well written book which was an easy and entertaining read.

Heartbreakingly sad and joyously uplifting in equal measures. A tale of grief and heartache and how a young mum and her son create a new friendship with an elderly neighbour and the gifts she leaves after her death. Brilliant.

Emma writes a wonderful heart-warming novel that shows the power of true love. Mabel was a fantastic neighbour to Roisin and her son Ben, helping and guiding them to move on with their lives. There is sadness, love and courage all included in the story. A great read.

Emma Heatherington does it again. She had me reading through misty eyed within the first couple of chapters. Secrets in the Snow is a wonderfully moving story with a few surprises and a beautiful ending

Roisin and her young son Ben move to Teapot Row, Ballybray in Ireland after the death of her husband to start a new life. They become 'family' with the wonderful septuagenarian Mabel and settle into village life.

Sadly, Mabel dies but she leaves messages from beyond the grave for Roisin, Ben, and her nephew Aiden, encouraging them to live their best lives.  Even though she dies early on in the story, Mabel is very much a main character in this book, with the trio revisiting wonderful memories of their time with her as well as some tough times as well.

Roisin works at Truly Vintage, a second hand/vintage clothing store. I enjoyed her reuse ethos and love of upcycling, arts, and crafts.  I did find myself getting frustrated with her at times and if this had been a film I would have been shouting at her via the tv. But that only goes to show the strength of the writing and how dramatically her past affected her personality.

I really enjoyed Secrets in the Snow and love that Emma Heatherington writes shortish books at around 4-5 hours reading time, meaning you can totally immerse yourself in the story in one fell swoop.
