I've been a fan of the epic murder mystery drama 'Midsomer Murder's' since the series first aired over 20 years ago. Indeed, that initial series set the tone for many an ITV drama to follow.
So naturally, a book titled 'A Village Murder' would catch my attention. As I pondered whether or not the book could like upto my hopes, I discovered that Frances Evesham is also the author of a successful - female lead - detective series called 'Exham on Sea Mysteries'. Sounds as though we are in safe hands then with an experienced author? Luckily yes, Evesham is an author who knows the required elements for a successful story.
The premise is simple - a local businessman and councillor has died and during his funeral, his daughter discovers the corpse of her errant husband. Due nosey neighbours, lots of gossip, humorous incidents, visits to the local pub, rumours of suspicious events from decades ago and people who haven’t met in 20 odd-years. Oh, and a dog – an adorable sounding dog.
An easy, fun read: if you are a fan of the cozy murder mystery (somehow, that genre name also sounds off-putting), then this is the story for you,
