I’ve read a few of Jenny Ashcroft book and whilst I didn’t dislike this one, it wasn’t my favourite. Where as I usually can’t put them down I ended up getting 20% in and not returning to it for weeks which is never a good sign!

Yet another classic from Jenny Ashcroft.
Another brilliant book by a brilliantly talented author.
If you have never read one of her books then you really really need to rectify that so you don’t miss such compelling writing.

Madeline Bright meets Luke Devereaux on new year's eve 1913 in Bombay, where she lives with her parents. The spark is instant. While Luke's away on business he leaves Maddy a guidebook with places where she'll see the real Bombay. Her mother and father's friend, Guy Bowen, who Maddy feels like is her older brother offers to show her around. She knows he has feelings for her but she could only ever imagine being his friend.

Luke and Maddy fall head-over-heels in love but war beckons and they just have time to get married before Luke's called to lead a team of men into battle. She misses him so much and while he's away finds out something quite wonderful is going to happen. She's desperate to tell him and for him to feel her joy. Sadly, a telegram dashes all her future hopes. Her mother who she's got a cautious relationship with urges her to move on.

Meanwhile in a hospital for injured soldiers is a man who doesn't know who he is. He just can't remember. He has hazy memories of a beautiful woman who meant the world to him. A chance visit by someone to the hospital jolts him to remember and he wonders if he'll be too late...

I fell totally head-over-heels for the storylines and the characters, some of whom I grew to really care for. One of my favourite reads this year. I loved it.

Thank you to Netgalley and Little Brown for this e-copy in return for my honest review. Having recently returned from Mumbai I was delighted to have the opportunity to read this book. I'm a big fan of historical fiction and will definitely look out for more books from Jenny Ashcroft. Well written. For fans of Dinah Jeffries and Sante Montefiore.

Wonderful, wonderful wonderful!
I've read a few Jenny Ashcroft books now and this one might be one of my favourites!

The plot is lovely and agonising all at once, I could not put it down, I really felt like I was there, could feel the heat, this was finished in two sittings!
Recommended for anyone who enjoys a bit of more modern historical fiction and some romance.

Meet me in Bombay is a historical romance novel set during the First World War. Maddy lives with her parents in India and is disappointed that she was unable to take up a teaching post in England. Her dissatisfaction with life quickly disappears when she meets Luke at a New Year’s Eve Party. After a whirlwind romance, they are married but Luke is taken away to fight in the war.
The story also focuses on a soldier in a convalescent home who has complete memory loss. Who is he and who is the woman he remembers in a hot country?
This is a fantastic story for fans of this genre. It gives a fascinating insight into life in Colonial India and illustrates the horrors of separation and loss during wartime.

This is a wonderful story which demonstrates the maxim that the course of true love never runs smoothly. The characters are interesting and, of course, there is an exotic location. Whilst Madeline seemed a bit shallow and insipid at times she had grit and determination when it mattered. The confusion caused by Luke's injury and his later dementia, are what give rise to most of the tension in the novel. Alice is also an interesting enigma. Wll worth reading.

Jenny Ashcroft has been an author on my tbr for a long time and it's with thanks to publishers providing me with a book in exchange for an honest review.

I love Bombay, the food, history and sometimes what it's become. Whenever a plot is set there I automatically have to read it.

Jennys writing style connected me from the first chapter along with family relationships which I could visualise as I absorbed timeless Bombay. To elaborate further it felt like I was reading a book by Lucinda Riley in terms of the historic narrative.

To summarise:
I was completely hooked
I love Jennys writing style

Jenny Ashcroft has done it again!
She has created yet another outstanding book that is impossible to put down until you have reached the last page.
I couldn't turn the pages fast enough but at the same time I wanted to savour every page and make the whole experience last as long as possible as I didn't want it to end!
If you haven't read any of her previous books then you don't know what you have been missing and I can guarantee after reading this book you will be hunting down her entire back catalogue of work.
If you are a fan of writers such as Lucinda Riley and Kate Morton then you will become an instant Jenny Ashcroft fan as well!
