It was fun reading this graphic novel. It wasn’t always clear what was going to happen next, and took a silly look at this game series. We saw two characters take these power ups on, and what happened when they aren’t handled correctly. Along the way, I learned more about the power ups and items in these games. Fans of these games will want to check this graphic novel out.

Splatoon Squid Kids Comedy Show is a 4 panel comedy manga by Hideki Goto and it’s based on the Videogame series Splatoon 2 for the nintendo switch gaming system. It stars a pink male inkling named Hit, and a pink female inkling named Maika and features a 4 koma comedy manga style of comedy combined with gags featuring the different Splatoon machinery and armor. The art style feels like a cartoon series like Spongebob Squarepants or Pokémon!

The story is not too deep into the lore of the Splatoon universe, and is mostly about Hit aiming to be the best splatter he can be. Maika serves to be the scolding character and the comedy appears to have manzai reactions, funny faces, and cool Splatoon references. There was also many jokes about ink. This manga does a fantastic job at being entertaining for Splatoon fans, and people who have not played the game.

This manga series is safe for kids of all ages and is funny enough for adults to enjoy as well! If you have a child who loves splatoon, gaming, squids, or if you love these things yourself, please pick up this manga series and support Goto-Sensei! Thank you NetGalley for the review copy!

This is for kids that like Big Nate, Spongebob, etc. It’s comedy sketches in graphic novel format. I think it would make a better show than a graphic novel but I know kids who will be addicted to this book.

This book is based on the video game Splatoon and does not translate to novelization well. The plot is difficult to follow and the jokes fall flat. This book may benefit if color is added to the art work. Best for readers who love the game.

I like the game and I think the Splatoon Squid Kids Comedy Show wasn’t for me. The manga seems childish to me. This is coming from a guy who grew up on Dragon Ball and Naruto. Perhaps it’s because while DB and Naruto have childish humor it’s more crude compared to Splatton manga. It really makes me want to just play the game. If that’s what the creator wanted to do they succeeded because after Vol. 1 I picked up my controller for my switch and started engaging in Splatoon 2 again. Besides that I really wasn’t engaged and felt like I wasn’t the target audience. That being said I can see children enjoying this it’s simplistic and shows the inklings in a different light than what we see in the videogame. - Jose Salazar, Otaku Hourly

This is a cute graphic novel that has mini stories.
If you have read a manga from the back you will catch on. But if you are unfamiliar you may get lost when you start reading.
I hope they add color. And more detail as to why they need ink.
Cute little read.

Splatoon: Squid Kids Comedy Show Volume 1 is a fun, quirky book full of little adventures from the Splatoon Nintendo game. It's quite an amusing ride with really great pictures. Honestly, I adored the illustrations and art styles.

I think middle graders will really like this book, especially those familiar with the game. It's an exciting and interesting ride, and it's super fun!

Three out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and VIZ Media for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

I got this for my kids to read. They also loved the Splatoon series. Here is what my kids had to say: 9 year old- It was SO funny. I loved it. The pictures are cool. I hope they make more because I loved reading it.
12 year old- I liked the art. The book was just ok for me. It was a lot of little stories. I liked the regular Splatoon series a lot better.

ARC Copy...I am mixed on this. On one hand it's fun to see more squid filled manga adventures but at same time...felt more like "Side"-not as plot filled in comparison to the main series.
