We enjoyed the electronic review copy of this book so much that we had to buy a physical copy! Ed thinks dinosaurs are just for boys, but oh does sister Maisy put him straight on that front. My daughter who has recently turned 4 was rather cross at the start of the book when Ed says that Maisy can't play with his dinosaur toys as they are for boys. She was adamant that dinosaurs are absolutely for girls - she did tell me a few boys at nursery think that girls shouldn't play with dinosaurs, but her and her friends all love playing with them. A great book to explore the (in my opinion) ridiculousness of boys/ girls toys - toys are for EVERYONE. Every nursery/ home/ school should have a copy of this book. Maisy you rock!

I just reviewed She Rex by Michelle Robinson & Deborah Allwright. #SheRex #NetGalley

My two year old absolutely loved this book! She loves dinosaurs and books about them are generally targeted at boys so this was a welcome change. A great book and great message, that girls can be anything they want to be and gender stereotypes are there to be ignored! A brilliant children’s book!

Ed thinks he is an expert on dinosaurs and he refuses to let his sister Maisy play with his, saying that, “Dinos are for boys.”

Maisy knows better as she knows about She Rex, T-Rex’s big sister but Ed won’t listen. What follows is a humorous tale which nicely tackles gender stereotypes and teaches that no toys, games or roles are solely for boys or girls and that about equally for everyone!

I loved the book as did my little one! The illustrations are bright and colourful with a sense of fun. The story uses a rhyming pattern which is something that appeals to young children.

Publication is due on 6th August 2020 and I recommend to anyone with young children as it is a fun read that deals with important issues regarding gender stereotyping in a lighthearted way.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bloomsbury for the ARC and the opportunity to provide an honest review.

I love this! A picture book about dinosaurs with rollicky rhymes, that bonks gender stereotypes on their head. Oh yes!

With a deeply satisfying twist at the end She Rex provides plenty of giggles and a few things to chat about too. And Deborah Allwright's bold and colourful illustrations? They'll have you smiling from ear to ear!

Great illustrations and a well paced book for young children. A clever, real life scenario that challenges stereotypes and promotes gender equality in a lighthearted way. This key message aimed at a young audience has the potential to change attitudes or at least spark discussion around issues and stereotypes. An important addition to a classroom!

Does your little one like books about dinosaurs? If so, then they’re going to love this forthcoming book by Michelle Robinson and illustrated by Deborah Allwright: She Rex.

Maisy’s big brother, Ed, refuses to believe in the She Rex that Maisy insists is real.

“[Maisy]:She Rex is a big and burly,

Multicoloured Dino girly,

I just saw one,

I should know…

[Ed]:well, if you saw one,

Where’d it go?”
Ed thinks a “girlosaur” would trot around in high heels and skip around holding hands with her friends but we find out that She Rex is huge and colourful, fierce and strong and easily a match for any other dinosaur. After Ed finally comes face to face with Maisy’s dino friend, it’s safe to say he’ll think twice about stereotyping females in future!

I love a picture book that smashes stereotypes and this is a great one! Not only is She Rex a female character to be reckoned with, little sister Maisy is clever and feisty and refuses to be put upon by her big brother. She challenges his outdated and basically sexist learned assumptions, coming out on top at the end!

As always, Michelle Robinson’s rhyming text is witty and hilarious and we are huge fans of Deborah Allwright’s bold and colourful depictions of the dinosaurs, particularly when they form a rock band! Wee Reader has requested we read this book over and over again for the last week or so, so it’s an emphatic thumbs up from us!

When Maisy’s brother, Ed, tells her that dinosaur toys are for boys, Maisy is quick to inform him that he is yet to meet T. Rex’s big sister, She Rex!

Maisy knows all about She Rex. She is a big and burly, multi-coloured dino girly. The hilarious rhyming description of She Rex and colourful illustrations are such fun.

Ed’s disbelief adds another layer of humour. Especially when he reminds Maisy that dinosaurs are extinct. Except, he might be wrong again…

I love a book that turns a stereotype on its head, but this book does more than that – it has uncovered an entire new species of dinosaur! This fun, bright, rhyming picture book will delight dino-fans, boys and girls!! The ending is perfect and will have you all laughing.

The illustrations are beautiful, fun and expressive through colour and texture, but I found the rhythm of the rhymes a little clunky at times, which somewhat spoilt reading it. The underlying message of the story, that gender shouldn't have preconceived bias, is an important one but I don't think this book will appeal to boys as much, which is a shame as the message that "Girl dinosaurs have equal bites" should be shared with all.

I'd like to give this book 6 or 7 stars out of 5 !!!

Thank you so much for this fantastic book, Michelle Robinson! It's exactly what the universe needs right now. I have to say I am not usually a huge fan of rhyming books, but that's mainly because there are so many & they're all way too similar. I've actually put a few down after the first 2 short pages when I realise it's in that category.

This is a great story to start with and doesn't depend on rhymes to carry you through the book. Also, the way the words are used they're not typical or obvious, easy or lazy options!

Love, Love, LOVE the fantastic illustrations by Deborah Allwright too. They are original, imaginative and beautiful in style & so wonderfully colourful, which of course follows the storyline. I also enjoy the illustration placement on the pages - not just the usual main, central picture with text above and/or below. Size & Shape of the words also adds interest to the already fun book.

Definitely on my list for gifts & I must find a copy for the reading club for the younger chemo patients I read to, whenever I can.

Can you imagine what She Rex looks like? You'll have to wait & see but I believe everyone will love this and read it over & over again!
Love it!

LOVE everything about this book! It is absolutely wonderful. It is great for imagination and truly teaches the lesson that there is no reason girls cannot do and be exactly what boys can. It has a funny little story to teach the lesson and has lovely, colourful illustrations to match. We highly recommend this book, especially if you have girls.

For Maisy, the traditional dinosaur is nothing compared to her girlasaur, She-Rex! She really puts her brother Ed right in re-educating him as to what a girl dinosaur could be like, because of course, how do we really know?! This picture book is a fun read, with a sassy, feisty little girl leading the imagination into all sorts of ideas as to what we know about dinosaurs. This will be a big hit with younger readers of around early school age, those who love dinosaurs and those who have siblings (especially know it all big brothers), but also those starting to explore their imaginations. I would definitely read more by this author with young readers, and especially between this sibling duo, who are very relatable and very cute. Great pictures and premise – would recommend!
Thank you to Bloomsbury Publishers and Net Galley for the advance e-book copy of this title.

My daughter absolutely loves this book. So nice to have a dinosaur story aimed at girls. Beautifully illustrated and a wonderful narrative. A new bedtime favourite for sure.

A great story with engaging, colourful illustrations.
My boys 3 & 1 enjoyed it (we've read it a few times in a row, the sign of a good read).
A wonderful way of showing young children that both girls and boys can enjoy the same things and that dinosaurs, or anything for that matter, are not for just for one or the other.
I will be buying this for a little girl I know with a dinosaur mad big brother.

She Rex by Michelle Robinson & Deborah Allwright is the perfect book for any toddler!

My toddlers loved that in the story the dinosaur was a girl but it also highlights the undertones of gender equality and made us question 'why are all dinosaurs portrayed as boys?'.

Great story for any child especially girls who feel they can't like dinosaurs because 'they are for boys'. With a gentle sporadic rhyme it is a brilliant book for bedtime (which is when we read it).

This is fantastic for toddlers and children who like dinosaurs and want to see them in a different light- almost as though it is from a child's perspective. It is fun and engaging, with bright and beautiful illustrations, and parts that children can join in on. It is great to also see a route to discuss breaking gender stereotypes on a child's level as well as many other talking points for teachers and parents like.

She Rex is just simply brilliant! A story full of imagination and fun, it's a great one to share with children of all ages.

The tale of Diasy and her annoying brother Ed, Ed wont let Daisy share his 'boys toys' like dinosaurs as he thinks they are for boys! Rather than getting upset with this Daisy explains to Ed all about T-Rex's bigger sister, She Rex. Both Daisy and She-Rex are on hand to educate Ed and show him that dinosaurs are for everyone.

Funny, heartfelt and brilliantly illustrated this is a great addition to any young library.

In this book a brother and sister battle over who the fiercest dinosaur is a T Rex or a She Rex with fun illustrations and battle of the bands too the brother and sister show how siblings can fight but teach each other too!

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

A completely adorable book featuring a brother and sister duo intent on comparing dinosaurs. Ed doesn't believe that Maisy's dinosaur is bigger, better and more colourful than his!! A lovely book bending the gender stereotypes that dinosaurs are for boys. She Rex is the ultimate girl dinosaur, perfect for little girls wanting to share the dino fun with their brothers.

This is an exciting picture book all children will want to read again and again, not only those fascinated by dinosaurs. Written mostly in rhyming couplets to give a lovely rhythm, this dynamic picture book challenges gender stereotypes in a fun way with a hilarious twist at the end.
There is an underlying theme of sibling rivalry, as Maisy is fed up with her brother Ed as he won’t share his toys, claiming his toys are for boys and not for girls, so she conjures up her own female dinosaur the ‘She Rex’ that is just as fierce, strong and loud as any boy dinosaur. In true brother and sister style Ed makes fun of the ‘She Rex’ but Maisy is not going to be out done and proves her dinosaur may be a girl but in no way could it be described as ‘girlie’.
The use of a limited background for the illustrations highlights the colourful dinosaurs and their antics and draws the eye to the characterisation that will capture even the most reluctant readers imagination. I particular like the use of the use of multi-colour for the female dinosaurs rather than one single block colour.
A great book to stimulate discussion at home, or in the classroom, about gender stereotypes and also family relationships. She Rex could also be used to compliment topic work on dinosaurs.
I plan to share this review on my blog after the book has been released.

This is a great story that shows girls can be just a fierce as boys and they children no longer have to conform to socialist stereotypes. It is one I will definitely be sharing with my son so he understands that dinosaurs are fun for everyone!
