This is a delightful adaptation of a classic for younger readers.

Simplified language with shorter sentences and pictures helps the novel come alive and the to-the-point storytelling removes the difficulties of the adult version.

Superb!

An adorable and lovely read of such a popular classic! I loved the illustrations and the simplistic way the story was written. I think this would be a great way to start children off on reading new books of classical literature!

With thanks to NetGalley for an early copy in return for an honest review.

I always enjoy when classics are adopted into children's books because I think it's a wonderful way to get children excited about reading these great stories. While this adaptation was good, it wasn't great in that I didn't feel it captured the feelings of Pride & Prejudice. And without those feelings I'm not sure the storyline (girls trying to find husbands) is relatable to the younger Middle Grade reader.

I am a huge Jane Austen fan. Pride and Prejudice is my second favorite so I was really excited to see this adaptation. I have mixed feelings about it now that I've read it. I loved those illustrated classics books when I was a kid so a part of me thinks that kids who like that kind of thing might really enjoy it. Mostly, though, I feel like it just doesn't do a great job of capturing all the feels of Pride and Prejudice. I couldn't feel the passion of Elizabeth, the gentleness of Jane, or the folly of Lydia. Kitty and Mary are practically invisible. Still, I might order it for my library. I'm on the fence.

I thought this book was expertly adapted for children by #Gemma Barder. It is very fast paced with lovely illustrations throughout. I shall certainly be reading more in this series!

The classic tale of Pride and Prejudice condensed into a shorter version for younger audiences to enjoy. Having read the original Pride and Prejudice, I can say all the main plot points were covered. It moves fairly quickly, but that is expected for a children's book since many children might lose interest if it were too long. I felt like the end was too abrupt for me and could've added something in between the conversation between Lizzy and Darcy and the outcome of their relationship. Aside from that, I feel like children may find this enjoyable and it may be a way for them to be introduced to Jane Austen at a young age.

Pride and Prejudice is a classic, but it can be very daunting for a reader who isn't use to that kind of writing and speaking. This children's chapter book edition is perfect! I think its good for young readers to get introduced to the story and even for adults who want to know the story, but don't feel like a heavy read.

The illustrations throughout were also a perfect touch.

I would love to read more from this series!

I thoroughly enjoyed this simplified version of this classic story. This retelling does a wonderful job of giving the key details to the main points of the story,

Okay so I tried reading Pride and Prejudice a few years ago and I couldn't do it. I however decided to give it another try with this Children's book. I quite liked all of the illustrations, but I disliked almost every character. I don't know why, but they came across as spoiled brats whose sole purpose is to marry a rich man. I can see why people would like this book, but I unfortunately did not. I do think this is a great read for children and a good way to make classics readable and accessible for kids.

Considering I rate books on how much I enjoyed reading the story, I have to give this 2 stars. It wasn't bad, but I didn't like the story enough to give it 3 stars.

I think this was a very concise and understandable version of Pride and Prejudice, which I think is perfect for children. The illustrations were nice and a good addition to the story itself. I only found the ending a bit abrupt, but maybe that had to the with the general fast-pace fo the book.

This is a really good adapted version of Pride & Prejudice.
The beautiful illustrations make the book even more inviting and the writing style is perfect to engage younger readers. An ideal introduction to the ultimate classic & author.

This was the sweetest little book - an adorable adaption of pride & prejudice (although admittedly I haven’t read the original yet - but I want to! Especially after this 😄) It was easy to understand & even had little pictures! I definitely had a great time reading it :)

I really liked this book for kids. It was sweet and to the point. Definitely a lot shorter than the original and not as detailed. Overall, a good read for a kid!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is by far the best work of literature I've read. This version was adapted by Gemma Barder for children's stories. The author has written other beautiful children's books as well. She has also adapted Emma and Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, which will be releasing later this year.

The covers for all the three books are beautiful and very attractive. In this book we see Mrs. Bennet in desperate need to find good husband's for her daughter's. Her ultimate goal in life is to get her daughter married.

We see parallel love story of Elizabeth Bennet with Mr. Darcy and also her sister Jane Bennet with Mr. Bingley. This is a beautiful illustrated edition and perfect introduction to classics for children. I enjoyed this book, and is very well narrated. A beautiful and short introduction to Pride and Prejudice.

I am also looking forward to reading Emma and Mansfield Park, as well future adaptions by this author. The illustrations really help the kids understand the scenario and the Georgian Era.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for sending me this eARC in exchange of an honest opinion.

As soon as my book request for this novel I had to pick it up right away! (Quite literally)
First impression was that the front cover is stunning! Adorable enough to know it’s a children’s edition however still has the class of a Jane Austen. The Illustrations inside are beautiful, text to illustration ratio is perfect, makes it super easy to read while being able to imagine the characters. I found that the text is mature enough for older readers to enjoy, even though this is aimed at much younger, however it is written clearly enough for younger readers to follow with ease. I’d have loved something like these growing up, as I matured I found that school ruined all attempts of enjoying classics, but this has made me want to attempt the classic Pride and Prejudice. Simply beautiful.

Classics by the greats can be intimidating to young readers. That is why I like series like this one. Young readers are introduced to simplified (and often illustrated) versions of classics they can then go onto enjoy more fully when they are more mature. In this case, the iconic "Pride and Prejudice" has been adapted by Gemma Barder. I have not read any of the others in the series yet, but this one does an excellent job in condensing the classic down to smaller bites and a chapter book length is the result. The illustrations are simple, but engaging. I would recommend it to early readers at my library.

I really liked this edition of Pride and Prejudice. It was well abriged and editted, and is much better suited to middle grade children who are interested in the classic works of authors whose writing is drastically different from that which is used in modern novels. The illustrations within this edition are beautiful and add a personal flair that helps to counter any descriptions missed out by the abridged word count.

I would be happy to give this to my own nieces and nephews to open their eyes up to Jane Austen's works.

This book is an easy and fun way for kids to get to know Pride and Prejudice. The book is written in easy language and short sentences, which makes it very easy to get through quick. The art in the book is amazing as well!

I am an avid Jane Austen fan and feel that she tackles moral issues in a very tasteful way. Does that mean that I think an elementary child would benefit from the story? The story revolves around the pursuit of finding a mate--some characters having better luck than others. Should a person who would read a less than 100 page book be focusing on those things? Not in my opinion. And I fear that reading this extremely condensed version at a young age, may unfortunately innoculate the reader from finding pleasure in teh complete original work when older.

Given the brevity of the book and the quite captivating cover with bright and elegant illustration, I was surprised to find interior illustrations being black and white. And while the illustrations could perhaps be treated as a coloring book, I'm not sure the child of the targeted reading level, would do so carefully. (And once one begins, younger siblings may think it's ok to color in any book).

The style of illustrations were cartoonish and felt a little too modern for the time period. I am usually a very big fan of introducing children to classics but I do not think Jane Austen books are the right choice. I would not recommend this for young readers but I could see it being a very good choice for a teen who struggles to read and would like to have access to the flow of the story prior to enjoying the movie.

Although important things are lost from the original book, these types of adaptations are very important for new readers to come and have an approach with classic works that have marked generations.

Including illustrations (cute, though not to my liking) is very valid to make the children's reading experience more entertaining and comfortable.

Looking forward to reading more of these stories.
