Jane is done and leaves her parents' residence following five unsuccessful seasons and the rejection of an undesirable marriage proposal, Jane Pemberton finds refuge in her friend Phoebe's abode, along with a modest allowance. Spitfire Society gatherings unfold at Jane's place, and on one occasion, she encounters an unconscious gentleman sprawled across the threshold—none other than Anthony, Viscount Colton, in a state of inebriation and severe distress. Determined to aid him, Jane tends to his wounds discreetly. Anthony, burdened by guilt over his parents' demise and struggling with alcoholism, is in dire straits. During his stay with Jane, she presents him with a unique proposition: to instruct her in the art of pleasure. The narrative unfolds into an enjoyable and sensual story.

Hello,

Apologies for the late notice, but I have decided not to review this title.

While I am certain it's obvious by now, I wanted to also clear this off NetGalley, so it's not showing as open for either of us.

I look forward to continuing to work with you in 2023 and beyond.

Laura

It was alright? Nothing mindblowing or amazing.
I was mostly interested in the hero, the heroine was boring and meh.
But the chemistry was very little, if any there.

Historical romance is one of my favorite genres. Even though they are so similar every story is somehow unique to its own. I am a huge Darcy Burke fan. She knows how to tell a story and really paint a perfect picture. Which in historical romance is so important. This is Anthony and Janes story. This is the third book in the series and like the first two this one was exceptional.

Darcy Burke is a name I’m familiar with because I’ve seen her books pop up on Amazon and Apple Books. I love a good story with a spinster, but I recommend waiting to read A Duke Will Never Do until you’ve read the first books in the series.

I received this copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was unfortunate because I had to DNF @ 30% it was an interesting premise and I began really hopeful to like this but I could not get myself to care about the plot or the characters. I held myself back from putting it down but I ultimately never went back to this book.

Thank you Netgalley.

This is the third book to The Spitfire Society Series, and can be read as an standalone.

Jane is a spitfire. He family wants her to marry to they demanded her. But she is who she is and will only marry for love or become a spinster. With all that being said she leaves her home and her family. She moves a friend's home who had married. She lives in a home with servants and gets an allowance from her friend. In so many words she does not go without and doesn't have to make her own way through life. I can't really sympathize with her because she still had it all but I do have some understanding her for wanting her own independence. Jane's overall character was problematic and selfish to me.

Our H is Anthony. He is a beta who is dealing with alcoholism, grief, extortion, and quilt. He is a friend of Jane. Through their friendship you witness Jane's personality. Everything was about her and her problems only when he needed her. There was also dubious consent where she throws herself on him and after he says no several time. He feels quilty after they get intimate. But she just tells him how much she wanted it. Also she is find and content on being his mistress.

This story had a few intimate scenes. They were all well written except where consent came into question. The characters were entertaining with some banter and witty moments. So all in all this book well written.

This is the third book of the Spitfire Society and was such an entertaining read. This is Anthony and Jane's story, who, if you are following this series (and I highly recommend you do!), we met from a previous book. Anthony is a notorious rake and he is drowning himself in grief and guilt over the death of his parents. Jane is a self-declared spinster and is a lovely, sweet, compassionate person, despite how her family treated her. The connection that developed between the two was lovely to see and of course the chemistry was amazing. Ms. Burke did a wonderful job of bringing these characters and their story to life. I enjoyed the book very much and hope to read more of this series.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and Ms. Burke for providing a free copy. This is my voluntary and honest review.

A Duke Will Never Do features an amazing romance between a self-declared spinster and one of Society’s most notorious rakes.

Jane Pemberton has two options after failing to make a match on the Marriage Mart. She can marry her parents' neighbor or become a spinster and take up residence in the headquarters of the Spitfire Society. For Jane, it's the easiest choice in the world and she settles into her new life comfortably. When Jane finds the unconscious Viscount Colton on her doorstep, she nurses him back to health. After Anthony recovers, he offers to compensate Jane and is shocked when she proposes payment of the most scandalous nature. As the pair's flirtation grows, Anthony finds himself the victim of a extortionist which may cost him everything, including the woman who has captured his heart.

Jane had a promising start to her first season, but things took a turn for the worse when gentleman began avoiding her for seemingly no reason. Jane's parents were upset with her for her failure to make a match and treated her terribly as a result. After becoming a spinster, Jane is much happier with her new life and intends to enjoy it to the fullest. Anthony's character has intrigued me from the start and I was happy to finally get his backstory. Anthony's parents were murdered and Anthony has blamed himself for their deaths ever since. In order to cope with the guilt, he spends nearly all of his time drunk as it keeps his demons at bay.

Jane and Anthony's relationship starts as a flirtation before quickly becoming something more. While Jane helps Anthony recover, the two spend a lot of time together and I enjoyed the friendship they developed as a result. During this time Jane adopts two kittens who are an absolute delight and I loved how much Anthony doted on them. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and the steamy scenes were fantastically done. Their relationship does hit a few snags, primarily due to Anthony's guilt over what happened with his parents and his belief he shouldn't be happy. Jane helps Anthony deal with his grief and while there were some bumps along the way, I was very happy with how the pair worked things out.

Overall A Duke Will Never Do was a fantastic conclusion to the series and I would highly recommend the series to anyone looking for some fun historical romances.

This is the first book I have read in the spitfire series and I thoroughly enjoyed it!.
The storyline was raunchy, fun, and had serious moments throughout which made it all the more intriguing. The chemistry between Jane and Anthony was intense, and I have to admit, I loved that. The levels of romance and passion were perfect and kept me engrossed and finding it hard to tear myself away from the story at the best of times!.
This book isn't just a typical raunchy romance, it has a wonderful storyline to accompany that. A fantastic book.

Thanks to the publisher, author and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is the first book I have read in the Spitfire Society series and centres around Jane, who has resigned herself to spinsterhood after a viscous rumour ruined any hope she has of marrying. Embracing her independence she has set up house on her own and has surrounded herself with true friends. Then she finds Anthony on her doorstep - bruised and beaten and with no memory of how he came to be there.

Helping him recover fills her with purpose and, as he reveals more of himself to her, she realises perhaps she doesn't want to remain a spinster any more.

Although this is the third book in the series, it's a good one to start with and I look forward to reading more.

Darcy Burke books are always a winner. I had been waiting for Jane's book, and it did not disappoint. I hope to read more of The Spitfire Society in the future.

This book was engaging from the start. The development with the main characters, Jane and Anthony, was gradual and spot on. I was always clued in to what they were thinking and going through. It made it easier to know them and to precipitate their actions throughout the story. I loved it!

Review based on an ARC provided by the publisher.

This book wasn't for me. Or it wasn't the right time for this book. I read it after re-visiting the first Bridgerton books by J. Quinn.

To me the dialogue felt clunky. The idea how the two MCs met and got together at first didn't feel natural to me, it all seemed a bit forced to get to the juicy scenes.

A Duke Will Never Do by Darcy Burke is a tantalizing read. I was riveted and drawn in from the very beginning! I’m a big fan of Darcy Burke and this may be my favorite book of hers. Side mysteries are like cat nip!

A Duke Will Never Do is the last book in Burke’s The Spitfire Society series. I read it as a stand alone, though I’ve read two books in the next series so I was familiar with many characters.

Jane Pemberton has recently moved out of her parents home after five failed seasons and refusing an unwanted marriage. Thankfully her friend Phoebe provides Jane with a home and small allowance. Spitfire Society meetings take place at Jane’s and on one such day there is an unconscious gentleman laid out across the threshold. She discovers it is Anthony, Viscount Colton, unconscious, severely beaten, and quite drunk. She keeps him in her home secretly to nurse back to health. Anthony is in a bad way. He blames himself for his parents' deaths and is clearly an alcoholic. When Anthony is staying with Jane, she makes him an interesting proposal...she asks him to teach her about pleasure!

Twists, turns, secrets and villainy will keep you on your toes while falling in love with Jane and Anthony.

I loved this book! I was so fun, I loved the characters, the plot had sexy times alongside serious moments! I thought that the emotion of the book was great and very well written! The chemistry between Jane and Anthony was so intense and I loved it! I just thought that the romance had everything I wanted! They really lit up the page, and I felt like they were both so real to me and I loved their passion for each other! Also let me just say, the consent in this was so great! I loved that the author put it in there, and made consent something that was expected in this book. I really appreciated it! It wasn't flaunted in this book, but still mentioned well enough that it had an impact! Overall I highly recommend this book! I loved everything about it, and felt like it really brought a lot to the table! While it was part of a series, you don't have to really read the others to know what is going on. But it will spoil you for the previous couples if you read out of order.

This was a great story by a great author. I’ve read a number of her books and they don’t disappoint. I really liked both main characters as well as the plot. I recommend.

This was a great read. I was so eager to hear Jane's story but never would have thought she would be so aggressive and with Anthony of all people. I love how Jane was able to challenge Anthony to do better. I hated how he wallowed in self guilt for his parents death. I'm eager to hear whats in store for Jane's sister

A very well-written emotional story that has wonderful characters, suspense and lovely romance made this a book that was very hard to put down. The hero is tortured by bad memories and unwarranted guilt, the heroine was unsuccessful in her first season and has been virtually disowned by her own parents after she decides that she needs to move out and be on her own.

When these two people are brought together by unforeseen circumstances it could lead to something more. Something wonderful The question is whether or not they can work through their problems to find happiness.

Excellent story that will hold your interest and leave you wanting more. Highly recommended!
