Susanna Clarke appears to have created a fascinating world for her next novel - having read this extract, I certainly want to know more about it! I did feel that there was a lot of information given in the first section of the extract. Whilst this made me curious to know more about the world, I also felt a little overloaded with the strange terminology of the Halls. The second section caught my attention more as I got a better sense of the world that Piranesi inhabit and felt like I could begin to connect with Piranesi as a narrator. I shall certainly look out for this title when it is released in September as I am curious to know more having read this short snippet!

This little excerpt has definitely whetted my appetite for more! I have already preordered a copy because I loved the author’s first book so much, and that was before I even knew what it was about.

From the first little sample we’ve been given, it feels very much like The Starless Sea by Erin Morganstern which I also adore and I’m incredibly excited to sit down with a pot of tea and devour this book!

I'm so intrigued by this. The introduction drops you straight into the world giving as much information as necessary, now I just want to know how the story continues.

I can't wait to read the whole novel!

Piranesi might be in many aspects quite different from Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell but there is a similarity that's obvious even from this short teaser: Piranesi is very well-written, too.

So, this is only a teaser to the book and, honestly, I feel like I need to read this right now! It’s pulled me into its world and leaves me wanting more. I can’t explain the plot as it’s only the first chapter, however, i feel like I need to understand who/why the main protagonist is acting the way they are. Recommended.

This is my first time reading anything by this author and I was a little nervous going in as her pervious work has received such high praise but reading this short extract I can see why.

In just a matter of pages I was invested in knowing what was happening and hooked to find out more!

This is definitely one I will be picking up when it is released.

"Everything you can imagine is real." Picasso

I last read Susanna Clarke's work in 2005 and was absolutely enchanted. I love feeling thoroughly disoriented within the worlds she creates and then adapting to the new order of things. The opening here gave me the impression of being literally inside a piece of art - as though the main character is part of the frescos adorning the Sistine Chapel. As thoroughly inventive and transportive as Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, I look forward to the release of the novel in full later this year.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Bloomsbury Publishing and Susanna Clarke for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It’s hard to give an accurate review, and indeed a rating, on an extract of a book. The story seems very intriguing...and I definitely want to read more. I want to learn more about Piranesi, about the Halls in which he roams, who “The Other” is and what is his relevance...and of course whether this land in which Piranesi roams, is in fact real or make believe?
I cannot wait to read this book, it has me intrigued, and the writing is good. It is descriptive, and filled with wonder...I just want to know more! I want to read more! What a teaser this is....

I loved Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. So I was excited to read this extract of Piranesi, Susanna Clarke new novel. It's another masterpiece in the making! Beautifully written, I can't wait to read the full story.

Thank you NetGalley for the early extract of Piranesi.

It is difficult to gauge an accurate picture of many things from a very small sample size. However, Clarke has sprikled magic and mysticism & created a fascinating realm for a tale that promises a great deal.

So many questions are raised from this opening extract that I am looking forward to reading the full book later this year.

Would I recommend this book base on the extract? Yes

Wow!
I loved Jonathan Strange and to hear that Clarke had another novel (finally!!) coming out was great news! And this is an intriguing, mysterious and in many ways chilling little sneak preview of that new novel - due out on 15th September...
We meet The House which is or may be The World, an apparently unending building full of tides and clouds and only two living people.... It reminded me a lot of Erin Morgenstern's library in The Starless Sea, what little snippet we got of it and I cannot wait until September to see what Clarke does with this unique world. If there is any writer I can trust with this, it is Clarke.

Well, this is a very interesting start to a novel. So many questions. An interesting leaving point with Piranesi speaking directly to us, the reader. Would most definitely read more.

This was very intriguing extract. It definitely gave me a lot of questions about how the rest of the book will play out. After reading this I immediately preordered the book because I’m so interested in where this book is going.

Having thoroughly enjoyed Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (and badgered many other people to read it too) I was so excited to hear that the author had written another novel.   This short extract promises more wonderful weirdness and memorable characters. I look forward to reading the full book in due course.  Many, many thanks for the opportunity to read this early teaser.

In this tantalising extract you are instantly transported into the World of Piranesi. The writing is so imaginative and vivid, I already find myself wanting to travel into this World with so many questions to ask and so much to learn. I can’t wait to read the rest and explore the rest of this World,

It was always going to be exciting to hear about the release of Susanna Clarke's latest book. The cover looks stunning and the plot definitely sounds intriguing!

It's hard to review such a short extract but the writing style is perfect and Piranesi is definitely an interesting character.

I can't wait to pick up a copy upon release and discover more about Piranesi and the House. I loved how the extract ended too.

Thank you for the access to the extract!

This extract is very short, very weird/mind****y and very intriguing.

Has a feel of Greek and Roman mythology but, under the surface, there is something dark and creepy under the surface. Can't wait to read/audiobook more when this is released at end of the year!

I'm grateful to NetGalley for providing an extract of Susanna Clarke's new book, "Piranesi",

This is a tantalising extract. We meet "Piranesi", apparently one of two inhabitants in a vast building, or complex, of halls filled with statues, the only place that he (or his companion, "The Other") seem to be aware of. Piranesi speculates about how many humans there have been: fifteen, he thinks, including him and The Other, based on skeletons he has discovered. He seems to have no knowledge of any parents.

The reader will ask other questions. Piranesi can read and write. Who taught him?

What is this place he lives in - apparently washed by tides in its lower levels?

One clue - only - one familiar reference - in this extract tells us a little about Piranesi's world.

The extract leaves me wondering if Clarke's full work builds on that, leading P. to discover more about a wider world, or if it will be left to intrigue. Think Gormenghast, before Titus leaves. A world unto itself, with apparently no need of the outside. There's scope in that for a story that examines events in the self-sufficient space we are shown, init also for a wider one - for a voyage to the outside, for strangers to arrive. Which will it be?

There are few answers in the extract but enough to make me anticipate this book even more! Roll on September!

Wow! I’ve been waiting for 17 years for this and just this short extract has lured me in immediately. I was in two minds whether to read the teaser as the thought of getting a taste of it then having to wait a further 4 months is agony. Such imaginative and skilful writing bursting from the pages, it was never in doubt. I’m so excited for the full novel – huge thanks to Bloomsbury and Netgalley for fully whetting my appetite.
