I read this book straight after a spy thriller, full of explosions, violence and death. This book was just what I needed, a little oasis of calm, where nothing much happens. Some very nice people drink tea, eat cake and solve a few relationship issues. It is a comfortable read but after so many books in this series, might now be regarded as having a rather twee and possibly slightly patronising attitude towards the country of Botswana.

It’s always a pleasure to read a new Alexander McCall Smith. You can rely on him to provide an funny and entertaining read while the crimes dealt with examine the morals of individuals and society today.
