Who doesn’t love a wee romantic comedy book? I found the characters loveable and the dialogue hilarious. A great, fun read.

A classically sweet romance from Jasmine Guillory, but this time with a political angle. While I felt the miscommunication/closed off female protagonist for not much reason was a little cliche, I loved the angle about public vs private life and how Olivia approached her relationship with this in mind. I always read Guillory's books super quickly and they're a real comfort.

I enjoyed this book and loved the characters. I found it be a predictable romance but who doesn’t love that? Although I don’t think it was my favourite by Jasmine, it was a nice lighthearted read while still touching on important matters in the world. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.

Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory

Olivia has recently moved from New York to LA to open a legal practice with her friend. She has a meeting with Max, who she later finds out, is the state senator. They hit it off and start going out but not publicly. All goes well til it hits the press and it’s all starts to fall apart will they finally weather the storm?

Good summer read light hearted read if at times predictable.

3.5/5

Olivia meets Max at a hotel bar over a discussion about desserts. When Max pursues her with cake and pie, will Olivia let her guard down and let herself fall for Max, who just happens to be a Senator.

This is such a lovely story that I devoured in one sitting. Jasmine Guillory has the ability to draw you in and make you root for the characters from the first page. I'll be eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.

I absolutely adore Jasmine Guillory's writing, for me she's like Talia Hibbert's American counterpart, both of which write fantastic romance stories and great smut.

This book however, compared to others I've read of Jasmine's, this one felt quite flat. I really liked the character of Max, he was really sweet and considerate and Olivia was alright, I feel like she overthought a lot of Max's decisions and a lot in general, but that was just played off as being a character trait. I'm so sad that this book couldn't hit the four star mark for me, but I'm still really interested to see what Jasmine Guillory puts out next.

This was an easy read but a little 'cheesy' for me. I didn't connect with the characters as much as I wanted to so didn't enjoy it as I expected I would do.

However, there a lot of good reviews for this so I realise its just not my storyline but it sure is for a lot of others.

Thank you Headline and Netgalley

Book 5 in the Wedding Date series. This series started with Alexa and Drew and each of the following books centre on people connected to them in some way. In this book, it's Olivia's turn to take centre stage, Alexa's older sister. She's had the bold decision to leave NYC and move to LA to set up her own law firm with her friend Ellie. While waiting to move into her new house, she stays at a hotel and gets talking to a man at the bar one evening. They have definite chemistry and Olivia is disappointed when they bought go to their respective bedrooms at the end of the night. But fate puts them back in each other paths when Olivia sees him again at an event and realises he's California Senator Max Powell! Max is delighted to see Olivia again and sends her a cake to welcome to California. Olivia is interested in handsome Max but is hesitant. Does she want to get involved with someone right now? Should she be focusing on her own career? And can she trust Max or is he just a slick politician looking for a hook up?

I enjoyed this book, it had some of the trademark Jasmine Guillory features: awesome characters, great friendships, lots of fantastic food descriptions and steamy romance scenes. I liked the conflict in the book and how it was portrayed, Olivia and Max are such different characters but they work well together. I feel like it slowed a bit in the middle, possibly because there is some repetition in the issues they have and Olivia's insecurities. Overall though it's a solid addition to this series (which can all be read as stand alone novels but characters from previous stories do crop up so it might spoil other books), a great modern romance

I really loved this book.

I loved that I was able to read a book for a change that featured a kick ass black female lead, a lawyer even, and that in the light of Black Lives Matter being so prominent at the moment that I think I took more notice than normal about the colour of our leads.

For Olivia's fabulous meet cute is with Max who really is white and privileged, he also unknown to Olivia initially is a Senator.

Olivia is cautious, takes a lot of time to think anything through, whereas Max is far more spur of the moment,

They do both love cake and pie, and the initial discussion on desserts in California is what endeared them both to me.

Surprisingly this is only my second book by the author and I loved them both.

In addition to the romance, there are some contemporary issues covered, there is some US politics but I think I was able to cope with that from what I learnt from watching Legally Blonde 2!

Eye opening with a sides order of fries, layer cake, and fabulous chemistry!

Thank you to Headline Eternal and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Party of Two is a lovely romance novel centering on Olivia, a lawyer establishing her own law firm and Max, a junior senator. It’s the story of two individuals who are career focused, who accidentally fall in love. It is lovely, sweet and at times sexy. It also has strong social justice themes, with criminal justice reform as a strong theme (something I loved as my background is in Criminology). This romance novel is fast paced, with setting and narrative voice changing often, keeping the reader constantly engaged. I really liked it and would recommend it! The acknowledgments at the end were lovely, too, and I appreciated Guillory’s respect and appreciation of librarians and libraries.

Introduction To Party Of Two
Olivia Monroe has just started up her own law firm and dating is definitely not on her mind. But a night at a hotel bar leads her flirting with a gorgeous man, except he’s the senator.

With Max’s sweet gestures, they soon end up in a relationship hidden from the public eye to avoid problems. But of course not everything goes to plan.

Characters Of Party Of Two
I honestly adored the banter between Olivia and Max! They’re so opposite, except maybe in their love for food, but their dialogue proved to be a fast paced read!

Olivia is a strong, independent woman and it’s a quality I loved reading about! I love how she was flawed and how race and her past came into discussion in a realistic way.

Max is sweet and outgoing, I love how passionate he is about his job. Also how open he is in acknowledging his white privilege and how he can use that to help others.

Party Of Two is quite realistic except maybe for the constant eating of food 😉

Conclusion Of Party Of Two
Overall, a sweet, fun and great summer read! I binged this within a sitting and I’d highly recommend it! A solid four star read for me. It had just the right amount of angst whilst being entertaining too. A little predictable, but it’s a romance book so I think that’s to be expected!

I've never been massive fan of contemporary romance, but Jasmine Guillory changed my mind about it! Her books are always so cute and yet so spot on about important issues, particularly racism, being a successful Black woman, respectful relationships etc. Plus there is loads of delicious food there so her books always make me hungry! "Party of two" was a great example of how you can write a great story about a successful relationship without usual tropes of big gestures and complete change of personality. I want more Guillory! Also hoping there's gonna be a book about Wes. Fingers crossed.

2.5 rounded up

I requested a copy of this on the strength of reviews of earlier books in Guillory's Wedding Date series, and was hoping for a smart but fun romantic comedy read. This delivered on some level, but it felt a bit tepid for my liking. There aren't any stakes at all, and the small amount of drama felt manufactured and forced. The writing was good but the banter between the two protagonists could've been improved - their entire relationship seemed to revolve around pure physical attraction and a love of cake (and not much else). I've rounded up my rating because there was nothing actually wrong with this, it just didn't excite me like I expected it to.

Easy, breezy summer reading, but not one which will linger in the mind for long after finishing.

I love every single one of Jasmine Guillory’s books and ‘Party Of Two’ was no exception. ‘Party Of Two’ is a romance novel about Max, a senator, and Olivia, a lawyer, who meet at a hotel bar and end up flirting with each other. Max then sends Olivia a chocolate cake in the hopes that she will want to go on a date with him.

This book was as adorable and sweet as every other one of Jasmine’s books. I loved both Max and Olivia so much and seeing them fall in love was so much fun. I loved their shared love of cakes and pies and how they fell in love because Max sent Olivia a chocolate cake because he remembered how much she loved chocolate cake after their first discussion at the hotel bar. One of my favourite scenes was when Max baked Olivia her favourite pie, it was adorable!

I love this series and I will read as many of the books in this series as Jasmine Guillory writes because all of them have made me feel happy and I just love all of these characters so much. They’re definitely romance books that I would recommend that anyone who loves the romance genre should read.

A fun light hearted romance story, very enjoyable. Only spoilt by my own watching of House of cards on demand US version and so automatically disliked anything to do with American politics. Love the character of Olivia and her love of all things cake While working hard, moving and volunteering.

This was a really good story and a thoroughly enjoyable read!

It was well written and it was fast paced too which I really enjoyed and there was something happening on every page! There was plenty of action and romance – the perfect mix!

I thought that the characters were good, strong and well developed, their interaction was great and they really worked well together.

The plot was well planned out and it had the perfect flow to the story for me, it was very easy to read - it is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended! I really enjoyed it!

A great read, the story of Max and Olivia.

When they meet by chance one night in a hotel bar, Olivia doesn't know who Max is, which he finds refreshing. The next time they meet she does know, and when they start to date each other it is in secret.

Deals with some serious issues, but a great book. I liked how it i told from both of their points of view.
