Such a fun concept. I love Michelle Robinson's picture books so I was keen to read her first chapter book. Funny and engaging, the perfect book for newly confident readers. Sharon's illustrations are wonderfully entertaining.

A charming story about two princesses who break all the rules to prove that girls can do everything boys can do.

Although not gripping, it’ll make you feel warm and fuzzy, it’s a great little story for younger, but capable readers.

A fun story with great world-building and wonderful illustrations. Grace and Portia are fabulously feisty heroines who prove that princesses can do anything as well as knights, if not better, and I loved Poop the unicorn! A funny and inspiring read for younger middle grade.

I love the way Michelle Robinson writes I was really excited to hear she had a chapter book coming up. It’s great fun, with fantastic illustrations by Sharon Dave’s and filled with all the charm and wit that Michelle always delivers.

This high-energy story of two princesses who simply won't follow the rules is a madcap delight! There are dragons, unicorns (though not as you know them), knights, and a whole bunch of rules to be broken. It's a fun read, full of spontaneity and joy, with the underlying message that girls can do anything. It's perhaps a little heavy on the poop jokes for me, but then I'm 28 - I think this would go down a treat with the under 10s, especially with girls who are dying to see themselves get a chaotic, humorous story of the sort so often reserved for boys. The illustrations are really fun and add a lot to the story, particularly the depictions of Grace and Portia, who really look like they're having the time of their life. This would be great for fans of Beatrix the Bold and The Boy Who Grew Dragons!

Girls can do anything and Grace is determined to prove it! Never mind the rules – all 947 of them – telling her all of the things she can’t do!

This was a great little book showing that girls can do anything boys can and that sometimes rules need to be changed!

I read this in one sitting and think this will be great for readers on the younger end of Middlegrade!

Girls can do anything and Grace is determined to prove it! Never mind the rules – 947 of them to be precise – telling her all of the things she can’t do! Do not climb the castle turrets, do not lie to the king, do not stay in the bath until your skin goes wrinkly and, most importantly, Do Not Disturb the Dragons! Rules were made to be broken so Grace and her sister, Portia, set off on an adventure that challenges everything they’ve ever been told.

The two brave and curious princesses want nothing more than to ride a unicorn, wear a suit of armour and play in a troll-o tournament. With the help of their friend Bram, a shape-shifting imp, they decide to break the rules and follow their dreams. At first everything seems brilliant but soon things don’t goes as expected and something is wrong with the dragons that live on top of the castle! Have the girls ruined everything?

Set in the magical land of Wondermere, this fantastically enchanting story is full of dragons, unicorns, trolls, imps, goblins, witches and many other wonderful creatures. At every turn, there is someone new to meet and another amazing spell or magical object to explore. The forest market is absolutely fascinating and there is no end to the laugh out loud, silly incidents. Children will love the creative word choices and the suitably gross references to poo and Bram’s infamous dung heap.

Michelle Robinson and Sharon Davey have created a world where challenging the norm, believing in yourself and trying something new are all things to be encouraged and celebrated. The message of this brilliant book is one of fun and tapping into your own power and strength. It is sure to become a favourite with children, parents and teachers alike!

Do Not Disturb the Dragons will be published in July 2020 by Bloomsbury Children’s Books. Thank you to NetGalley for this incredibly fun book!

Initially I chose this story because I have a "bubble" of nine Year 1 boys to teach during this new and unusual set up. I thought it would grip and interest them and assumed from a glance this book was aimed at doing just that. A stereotype perhaps but one that has much truth and research behind it. I was right that it was magical, gripping with a theme of the make believe but wrong to assume this book was geared towards boys. It tells the story of girl power and overcoming the odds to do and be who you want! A powerful message for ALL children. The language is wonderful, opening up lots of discussion and quite a few giggles. Wonderful illustrations I only wish we could see in colour. This book was a superb chapter book to read with my children.

Do not disturb the dragons!
This is the most important rule in Wondermere, the first of many designed to ensure the dragons, so revered that even their poo is considered lucky, do not leave their nest at the top of the castle. To princesses Grace and Portia, however, the seemingly endless rules are an unnecessary restriction on the things they would like to do: like training to be a knight, riding a unicorn and playing troll-o: all forbidden to girls. With the help of elf Bram and his dad, they secretly begin to train with the view of playing in the forthcoming celebrations… but the dragons are beginning to act strangely.
A vividly depicted fantasy kingdom, endearing characters, plenty of humour and strong, contrasting female leads combine in an entertaining tale ideal for young readers growing in confidence and looking for their first longer reads.

I hadn't realised how young this was aimed at when I requested it but think it is great for readers that are just starting out and getting more confident. The story itself was fun, well described without being over the top and the characters were very likeable.

I liked the overall message of the book but would be a little concerned with children interpretating the story about it being fine to break the rules since there were no rules that they said to themselves that they really shouldn't break as it could be dangerous.

Generally a nice book but not one I'd want to introduce my kids to unless they understood that it is about girls being able to do the same thing as boys and that some rules are outdated.

A laugh-out-loud book with lots of fantastic, glittery fun and two bold heroines who are more than capable of fighting all the rules that stop them from being brave knights and playing troll-o. The illustrations are a real delight too! A rip-roaring super fun read for young readers.

This story was lots of fun and had me giggling from page one!

Grace and Portia are princesses in a kingdom governed by a series of strict rules, which must be kept in order to keep the resident dragons happy. But Grace and Portia really want to be knights and play Troll-O, and they don't see why putting on some trousers will make the dragons leave...

I read Do Not Disturb the Dragons to myself for review but will be reading it to my five year old at bedtime because I know she'll find it even funnier than I did! I think unicorns called Poop, troll drool and the constant danger of dragon droppings (which you can't wash off because they're lucky) will make this story a huge hit with its target audience. It's set in a fantastic fairytale world, with friendly imps, trolls who love nothing more than pretending to be footballs and dragons who must be kept happy at all costs.

All of the chapters were named after silly rules that would be broken in that chapter, giving readers a humorous glimpse into what is about to happen. The plot hurries along at just the right pace and has a satisfying ending.

Sharon Davey has provided adorable illustrations which bring the characters to life. I loved the little dragons on their towers and her unicorns were also very sweet.

I really enjoyed Grace and Portia's adventure and would recommend it to anyone in search of a funny chapter book that will keep kids utterly entertained.

This is an absolutely fabulous story of two friends who are tired of being surrounded by all the rules that abound in the castle where they live. Just because they are girls should not mean that they cannot take part in sword craft and jousting. When they secretly start training to take part in the jousting event they are horrified to notice that the dragons who are nesting on the roof appear to be unhappy; perhaps the saying about 'do not disturb the dragons' is real and maybe there is trouble ahead. This is a delightful tale of two feisty young girls who try and break free of the stifling rules that surround them. Definitely going to be popular with middle grade girls.

Grace is the luckiest girl in the world...dragons poo all over her, In her kingdom, this is considered lucky and knights will shake her hand to try to gain some of that luck before a match of Troll-O. Grace and sister Portia are tired of being lucky and are tired of the rules imposed across their kingdom. Their Dad, the King, rules a kingdom where everything is done to protect the dragons. Rules from girls unable to become knights, wear trousers or stay in the bath until wrinkly. Rules about disturbing the dragons, riding unicorns or eating ice cream for breakfast.
Is it any wonder Grace and Portia want more?
As Grace and Portia push the rules, break the rules and show a complete disregard for the rules, they are having the best time. However, the dragons are acting strangely and the kingdom believes that someone is breaking the rules, little do they know who!
This hilarious story focuses on the two girls breaking the rules but in reality they are breaking the mould imposed by ridiculous rules. Proving themselves worthy takes effort and some laugh out loud moments along the way.
Perfect for anyone looking to laugh, cheer on the girls and meet some unicorns...one aptly named Poop. This book will be devoured and become one of the more popular books in the library.

ooo I dashed through this wonderfully warm and funny story. Following the sisters Grace and Portia who live in a castle, protected by dragons. This is no ordinary land - the dragon's poop is glitter-filled, there are an abundance of unicorns and there are mermaids in the moat!

There are also rules. Lots of them. Rules that very clearly state what Grace and Portia can and can't do... just because they are girls. Grace maybe very lucky, but, what she'd really love to do- more than anything else - is become a knight and play that amazing sport, Troll-o. I love how they work together to try and achieve this.

Witty dialogue, fast pace and delightful illustrations that I'm sure the dragons would approve of! Do Not Disturb The Dragons is a glittery & feisty read.
