I found this book to be enjoyable and true to the agricultural industry, Having grown up on a family farm very similar to this (but across the pond) with my father taking over from my grandfather the farming tasks (the old fashioned way), I found truths and understanding in what the author writes to the mindsets. The last chapter, however, was more focused on the UK environment aspect As he US one has only been farmed a couple hundred years and not thousands of years - something a bit different than I’m familiar with and did not know that the uk straightened rivers, which seems to be a common sense that you shouldn’t do as it is harmful and causes erosion, etc. I am happy to see land being reclaimed and an attempt to still farm this way (like my own father does and my brother) even though you work all hours and do not make much from it. It is about the dedication and joy of the countryside. I completely feel the author’s words and they are spoken by a true farmer and one who appreciates and understand the land. This is how things should be done, but people like this become rare especially if there is no one willing to take it on through the generations...especially for those who do not understand or are work shy because it’s a 24 hour job 7 days a week and is not easy, but some find it rewarding. I think those interested in the environment, nature, and agriculture would enjoy this book.
