This was an amazing read!

Ally walks into work one morning only to be told that she hasn't worked there in 5 years.
After medical assessments it becomes clear that Ally has been in a fugue state and has been missing for 2 days.
Suddenly she becomes obsessed with figuring out what cause this.

Was it something that happened to her just before she disappeared ? or was it a tragedy from her childhood that has reared its Ugly Head ?

I love an amnesia trope and the character has to piece together what happened, how they got into that situation and what they forgot. I felt as though this story portrayed relationships well and with a real honesty. It was very well written to constantly have a good pace and an excellent level of intrigued that made me want to carry on. The amount of tension that I felt Reading this story was extremely high and there were times where I became very anxious Reading.

It featured one small thing I didn't like with regards to the reveal but that is definitely a personal issue and I don't think it would bother anybody else. Overall my enjoyment of this story made me give this book a 5-star rating and I really hope to get a physical copy one day.

My first foray into a Kate White book, I was pulled in by the premise of the story with an amnesiac main character Ally Linden wanting to know what had happened to her in the past two days.

Ally, a finance analyst found herself in her old office only to learn she had left that office five years ago. She slowly recovered her memory except for the past 2 days. What had happened to her in those days? The mystery deepened when she found a wad of tissues with dried blood on it.

I loved how Ally acted when she found herself in a pickle. She kept her cool and tried to get to the bottom of the mystery even to the poubt of hiring the detectives.

The story was a bit slow to read, but I didn’t mind that as it was a slow day for me. The perp was obvious, but I turned a blind eye to everything evident and kept reading. I liked most of the story as it kept the suspense going. But…

Then came my real niggle; the ending was too abrupt. I felt I was missing a few pages where the subplots were not completed for me.

Ah well, a good read, On to my next.

I began this book with high hopes as the plotline sounded intriguing and the first few chapters were engaging. However the middle part seemed to drag and the conclusion downright mad as the denouement came so far out of left field as to be farcical. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters and found the husband/wife relationships (both Ally and Hugh and Roger and Marion) far fetched and unbelievable. Sorry but I can only give 3 stars. However I would like to read another of Kate White’s books as this one may just be a blip.

Oooh I loved this! Everything Ally thought is real, is not. Where has that chunk of her life gone? We follow her as she pieces it together, with a few shocks along the way. A fabulous book which kept me glued to the story until the end!

Very promising premise that translated into an enjoyable enough psychological thriller. None of the characters were particularly likeable and I think that the ending felt a bit flat but the writing was good and the plot engaging.

I really enjoyed this intriguing mystery thriller. It takes us through the living nightmare that Ally is experiencing, when she enters a dissociative state and loses several days of her life, heading back to a place she had worked 5 years ago. What has triggered it and can she trust everyone around her knowing something may have happened with them that triggered it?
Ally is a thoroughly likeable character. She stays measured and focused despite her stress and strife. She is generally open, with the sense to be guarded when necessary. She is strong and determined to find out what has happened to deal with it– whilst frightened also that it may happen again. The men in her life have loads of question marks hanging over them. So as a reader you are not sure whether to like/trust or distrust them. The use of a PI makes it a bit grittier.
There are good twists, turns and revelations that gradually emerge at a fitting pace. The latter third of the book was largely predictable, maybe a bit rushed, but nonetheless I still enjoyed the journey and potential for my theory to be wrong. Easy to read, with a decent pace and characters, it made for an enjoyable read.

I’m a person who’s always into psychology thrillers so the moment I saw “lost memories” on the page of this book I was hooked.

This will be one of those books I enjoyed reading but i wouldn’t really go back to nor will it stay in my head.

It tells a story about Ally linden, a freelance journalist who on One rainy Monday morning finds herself at work only to find out she stopped working there 5 years ago from her exboyfriend and also ex-boss
That makes her faint and when she wakes up in the hospital she has no memories except for her name
After a while all her memories come back except for the last two days when she went missing .

She decides to hire a private detective,Mulroney to investigate her whereabouts and what happened in those two days while she’s also undergoing therapy from her doctor (Dr.Erling)

But these memories somehow connect to her past trauma and it will either bring her a great relief or the worst nightmare of her entire life

I give this one a 3🌟 star because there are a few things that didn’t feel right about this
Such as;-

1) I liked the plot and start was very intriguing but then it focused more on storytelling more than showing
2) I didn’t really see the importance of some characters such as Damien the ex-boyfriend.... I understand his coming into the story but for what??
I kept expecting a big reveal about him but it never happened
3) The romance between Hugh and Ally was the worst husband and wife relationship ever , they even had the worst dialogues ever
Basically I couldn’t understand why he was acting the way he did, he kept Shading his wife which at first made me think he was our bad guy

Other than that , I liked the way the author made Ally so strong and brave .. she made her own decisions , sticking by them and also protecting herself

Thank you NetGalley and Harleycoppers for the Arc copy .
I did love the writing style and I would love to read more books from this author

On a cold, rainy morning, finance journalist Ally Linden arrives early to work in her Manhattan office, only to find that she’s forgotten her keycard and needs to have a colleague she’s never met let her in. When her boss finally arrives, he seems surprised to see her—because she hasn’t worked there in five years.

Ally knows her name, but little else, and it’s only after several hours in an emergency room and multiple interviews with the hospital psychiatrist that she begins to piece together important facts: she lives on the Upper West Side; she’s now a freelance personal finance journalist; she’s married to a lovely man named Hugh. But she still can’t recall what happened to her during the previous two days. When she learns that she’s experienced a dissociative fugue state, Ally tries to think of triggers and remembers that she’d been seeing a therapist about a traumatic event from her childhood, in which she came across evidence for a murder that was never solved.. This is the first book I read by Kate

Desperate to unearth answers, Ally focuses on figuring out where she spent the missing forty-eight hours. As ominous details of the two days pile up, so does the terrifying pressure: she must recover the time she lost before the time she has left runs out.

A fascinating story with lots of twist and turns. Very interesting facts and explanation of disassociation, easy to imagine the terror generated. The suspense was maintained right to the end. Great conclusion.

I enjoyed this on the whole but, found the book dragged halfway through and I started to loose interest. I plodded on until the end but the book didn’t hit the spot for me. I thought it rushed towards its conclusion which spoiled this read for me. It’s a shame as I thought that this would be a different book for me to enjoy. Unfortunately it wasn’t.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

This was a fantastic, gripping read. The suspense was expertly crafted and had me racing through the book, I couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed this and can’t wait to read more from this author.

This is an enjoyable book which has quite a strong story line. It is built around a scary scenario where Ally finds herself arriving for work at a place she once worked.

I like the way that Kate White develops the character of Ally.We learn that in her childhood Ally discovered the body of a toddler, whilst coming home from school. Could this be linked to her apparent memory loss?

Slowly the truth is revealed, through a series of linked events in Ally's past and present life. I won't go into further detail about the plot for fear of spoiling the story.

I have given this 3 stars because it kept me engaged to the end. There are some rather tenuous links between the various subplots, but there are sufficient twists and turns to make the book worth reading.

I thought about a 4 stars, but I didn't find the characters that engaging, however I would consider reading other books by Kate White on the strength of this novel.

I give thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for a copy in exchange for this review.

A gripping read that kept me guessing all the way. Finance journalist Ally arrives at the office one morning only to find she hasn't worked there for five years. The book follows her journey trying to piece together three lost days of her life. There a friends and foes and foes who masquerade as friends. Many people are not what they seem, and soon everyone is under suspicion. As she begins to construct a timeline in an attempt to fill in the blanks , a trauma from her childhood resurfaces, adding another dimension to the problem.
Highly recommended.

didn’t find this book as good as my usual psychological thrillers as it didn’t trip me quite as much, however I really wanted to find out what happened. Ally lost her memories for two days, and as she tries to fill in the blanks only to uncover some awful truths. Ally is a very likeable character and I found myself warming to her a lot

We have all lost hours or more in the haze of excited alcohol but this heroine finds a chasm not a crack in her life. Is it because her life is falling appart or that she wants to rend it deliberately. How can such a short period of " amnesia" (if thats what it is) cause such anguish. Her attempts at reconstruction are credible and well done. This unusual story kept me wanting to know more which is the stamp of a well written original plot. The plot twist makes one ready to question the best help in ones own future. I did wonder if Uber was paying for product placement with some of eher journeys clocking up pretty big bills but hey this is FICTION...and at its best.

Imagine going to work on a rainy day, you forget your pass to enter the building, you're soaking wet and once you get in you realise you've forgotten the key to your office. It's the beginning of a bad day which only gets worse when your ex boyfriend comes over to ask why you're here because you haven't worked in this office in five years.

Quickly Ally pieces together her lost years but can't remember the last two days, now with the help of her schedule and a credit card payment she tries to put together what happened to cause her memory loss.

This story engaged me from the first page, which is difficult to do. I felt genuinely invested in what was happening and trying to figure it out, though at times the pacing got a bit slow.

The premise of this book caught my interest and I wanted to investigate how someone could just lose 72 hours of her life.

Ally turns up for work early but is shocked to learn that she has not worked in this office for years. She blacks out and is taken to A&E where they explain that she is in a fugue state. Then long story short, we live through the whys and wherefores this happened. Not greatly satisfying as I found it a bit repetitive and I was not convinced by Ally.

Sorry, not for me.

Thank you to the author, publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.

Despite the first few chapters really gripping me, I found that the remainder of the narrative continued to “simmer” and never really build in tension. This was completely unexpected, especially as the premise of the novel suggested a story that was gripping and leaving me wanting more. Alas, I did not get this reaction to the story and gradually lost interest as the narrative progressed.

White explores an interesting subject of dissociation. The protagonist, Ally, has literally switched her brain off from a series of events and, although her body still functions, she cannot remember what has happened. This is how the story begins: with Ally arriving at her old workplace with no idea how she arrived or why she was there. As the novel develops, we learn that Ally suffers from the dissociative state, having regular therapy to control this extreme reaction and prevent it from happening again.

However, as Ally tries to piece together what happened over 48-hours, more questions are raised. These involve her husband, whom she starts to mistrust, her work colleagues and it even brings back memories of a traumatic event from her childhood. Naturally, Ally is suspicious but White does not develop these emotions until the paranoia I would have expected.

Indeed, the story eventually grows to cover not only Ally reinstating her memories, but also an incident from her childhood. I found this mostly an irritating element to the story and felt it prolonged Ally’s own discoveries. Instead, I wanted there to be more focus on the lost two days, rather than churning through a police investigation from the past. This caused my feelings of frustration and boredom because I felt this part of the story significantly slowed the pace and lessened the intensity I was hoping for.

Although this story explores an interesting idea, I wish the writer had emphasised Ally’s confusion more. She seems to accept too many things, rather than questioning, and I could not get a grasp of any true urgency – even when it is clear that Ally may be in danger. I was hoping for a pacy, explosive narrative that would have Ally literally running around trying to find definite answers. What I read was a character who was a little too laid back for my liking and with not enough cliffhangers at the end of chapters.

This was an ok read but did not fulfil my expectations. I enjoy thrilling reads but I don’t think this suited my tastes. It is a shame, as I feel the foundations are there for a really exciting story. I’ve read that White has written many suspenseful reads but, in this case, I could not experience this sensation over the pages.

With thanks to Avon books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I know this sounds very cruel but this is a book any reasonable writer could have penned. Not because the plot wasn’t clever and interesting but because if you don’t actually tie the ending up properly you can make any number of seemingly strange happenings occur all the way through. It’s the ending that determines in most cases how good a book is. The brilliance of a good author is making sense of the whole story and this one made very limited sense at the end.
