The Chalet is set in two time frames -present day and two decades earlier when a horrific ski accident leaves 2 brothers in peril: one suffers dreadful injuries and the other is never found.

This is a great psychological thriller, leaving you guessing until the last minute who people really are and why they are disguising their identities.

This was a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is set in a French ski resort and jumps back and forward in time between the 1990s and the present day. Two brothers and their girlfriends skied there in the 90s, one of the brothers dies, and in the present day someone is out for revenge.
I really enjoyed delving into the back stories of the characters and my heart broke for one of them especially. Quite a lot of surprises are revealed as some pretty self absorbed characters show their true colours. One of them meets a deliciously hideous end! I would definitely read more from this author.

Picked this up while on holiday, a good tale that kept my attention, interesting characters and a good twist, one part even brought a tear to my eye. Nice easy reading which made the book a quick read. Would keep an eye out for future books by Catherine Cooper.

This is a new author and I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity of reading this book.
This was an easy read, with a steady paced build up of introducing the characters. Of which there are several interesting ones which I have seen their traits before and could relate. There are two storylines / timezones and it's easy to follow. Suddenly, the plot thickens and grabs my attention, several times in fact. Now its compulsory for me to finish this book before dinner! Great book and a great choice to bring on holiday for a wet and windy day during my staycation with tea and biscuits.

What a book! Thoroughly enjoyed this! I love how it flicked back in time as well as present day and finding out how it all interlinked!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.

I wasn’t sure what to make of this book initially when I first started reading it. It took a while to get used to the way it was written, the moving from past to present and for the characters to slot into place in my head. The more I read I slowly became hooked. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters, although I enjoyed the twists in the book and thought the last quarter of the book was full of suspense and I correctly guessed who one character was. Overall, a good book to read, just not a great one for me. 3.5 stars

An intriguing plot with a host of mysterious characters and some clever twists. I felt that this was an enjoyable read despite a few too many coincidences.

Two young men test themselves skiing in a blizzard ... and only one returns from the trip.
20 years later the missing skiers body turns up and the occupants of a luxurious chalet in the resort have their own secrets. This fast paced story is reminiscent of the twists and turns on a slalom run - characters (and their secrets) are not always who they appear to be

What links or unites a group of well to do guests in a luxury chalet in La Mediere in the French Alps in January 2020 with the death of a British skier in the same place in December 1998? The story is told in dual timelines and from multiple points of view.

First of all, the setting is fantastic and the heavy snowfall adds a chilly atmosphere to the growing tension between the guests in 2020. The multiple narratives takes a bit of getting used to but as soon as you sort out who the various characters are, it works well. However, none of the characters are especially likeable with the possible exception of Hugo and I do tend to be more invested in a novel if I can like the protagonists. The story is well written and the plot is more along the lines of revenge for the 1998 death and so as it reaches the conclusion it does not contain much mystery or the element of surprise. The guilt of some of the characters carry is interesting and is conveyed well.

Overall this is a quick, enjoyable read and one that would be especially suitable for a cold winters day on the sofa with a cup of hot chocolate!

With thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the ARC

Overall not a bad read, well written although I wasn't keen on the characters and I didn't get into the story line fully as it seemed to get a bit boring in parts.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

The Chalet is based in the French Alps and is set mostly in two separate times - 1998 and 2020. In both timelines, a mismatched group of people are on a skiing holiday and several of them have secrets or plans for revenge that they desperately want to keep. There are some clever misdirections (wish I could say more!) which caught me by surprise. There was quite a wide cast of characters and early on I wondered if I should be taking notes, although this soon passed because the characters were so distinctive and memorable.

The style of writing, depth of characterisation and clever plot reminded me somewhat of Lucy Foley's superb novels, so I will definitely look out for more by this new author. Highly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this novel.

Oh, I nearly forgot to mention, the ending is brilliantly creepy!

I really enjoyed this! Was a nice easy read and I enjoyed the flashbacks of the young girl with her mother who was in and out of social care. It did keep me guessing as to how all of the stories threaded together and it was a satisfying ending. Thank you to the author, Netgalley and HarperCollins for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Set in 2 different time frames. 2 skiers and their guide go skiing off piste in a storm but only the guide gets to the bottom. One of the skiers is found the following day, then 20 years later a body is uncovered in another storm at the same ski resort.
A story of intrigue from start to finish, uncovering the relationships of seemingly unrelated parties.

It is difficult to appreciate that this is a debut novel and I eagerly await more of Catherine's work. Having never been to a ski resort, I found the narrative so descriptive - both on and off piste - that I could actually imagine I was there. The characters are a relatable bunch, and with their eclectic personalities, the novel progresses at a steady pace - with plenty of twists - to a conclusion that I didn't forsee until near to the end. I highly recommend this novel and thank both Netgalley and the Publishers for this ARC.

A fast moving psychological thriller with three timelines and a glorious Alpine setting. Gold digger Ria is on a skiing holiday with wealthy husband Hugo. There are flashbacks to an incident in the same resort over 20 years earlier. We also follow the life of a deprived girl with a disturbed mother...

I enjoyed it and read it quickly. Well-written, a pretty impressive debut.

It was a great read and I was immersed from the first page. It was fast paced and the characters were all very real and described well. All in all a really good and enjoyable read..

Even though I have never felt the urge to even try skiing I found this a very enjoyable first novel from Catherine Cooper. It doesn't really matter if you don't understand some of the terms as this is a psychological thriller, so more about the people. This is a story about love, friendship and rivalry, with a good helping of revenge. The reader has the opportunity to consider who is really culpable in the original death in 1998. Recommended.

A story of two timelines, 1998 and the present. Easy to follow and not at all confusing, this book is a real page turner. One chalet of guests and connections to a body found in the snow. I couldn't put this book down. Compelling.

A book with 2 timelines 1998 and 2018
I quite enjoy stories that follow different time lines as long as they are easy to follow and this one was.
