Thank you to @netgalley, Random House UK and Transworld Publishers for the ARC in return for an honest review.

When I requested this book, I didn’t actually realise it was the second in a series (rookie mistake I always make) however personally I don’t think that matters at all. As I didn’t notice any parts I needed reference for from the previous. Although after reading this I definitely need to get myself a copy of Hold Your Tongue!

Following DI Eve Hunter and her colleagues on hard investigations and tackling crime. There is human trafficking and prostitution involved and I personally found it really interesting as it showed different parts. I feel so bad for these girls but Eve is an incredible character, I absolutely loved her! She was amazing. I cannot wait to read more from her! There were dark parts but it kept it interesting.

I thought it was really fast paced and I found myself getting through more than I thought. The only thing that confused me was there was quite a few characters I’d get mixed up between, especially towards the end and I had to read a few pages back but overall it was a brilliant read!

After reading and enjoying the first in this series, Hold Your Tongue, I was looking forward to getting my teeth into this one and I wasn't disappointed. I will say that although you don't necessarily have to have read the first, I do think you will enjoy this second one more if you do.

This is a gritty police procedural set in Aberdeen, Scotland which delves into the seedy and repulsive world of human trafficking but what does the death of a privileged young man and the apparent suicide of a young woman have in common? On first impressions, absolutely nothing however, DI Hunter and her team set about investigating and what they find is worse than they expected.

Mainly written from Eve's perspective interspersed with other characters and those of an unknown young woman, this gave insight from all the important protagonists in this book and provided a well-rounded view of the situation from all angles. The characters are well developed and believable with the relationships between Eve and her wider team excellently portrayed.

The story is a difficult one to read in parts but, I felt, was dealt with respectfully but with no holds-barred which made it feel authentic making me feel both sad and angry in equal measure that these things are likely to be happening to someone right now! The pace is good, it does start off a little slow but increases as the story develops and this follows the pace of the investigation, again making it feel believable and, once again, the author manages to keep the identity of the killer well hidden which kept me guessing and second guessing throughout.

Overall, I have no hesitation in recommending this to others who enjoy a cleverly written and gripping police procedural and I look forward to reading the next instalment in what is a great series with DI Hunter fast becoming a favourite character of mine.

I was fortunate enough to have been invited to read an advance copy by Transworld Publishers, part of Penguin Random House UK, via NetGalley in return for an unbiased and unedited review and for which, I am thankful.

Out for blood by Deborah Masson was a tough one for me to get into. I’m not sure if it was just circumstances distracting me rather than the writing but I left the book for days between readings then struggled to remember the characters and the plot! I was on the verge of restarting but decided to persevere. I definitely think I would have been able to engage more quickly had I read the first book in this series to grasp the characters and what preceded this case. Deborah Masson develops her characters well, giving insights into their background and psychology. When I got there the ending twist was certainly unexpected! Four stars from me

DI Eve Hunter makes a welcome return in the second police procedural by Deborah Masson.

Relations within her team are slowly improving as she regains their trust after the events in the first book and and before. Hot on the heels of the murder of the only son of wealthy businessman, an apparent suicide by hanging on a golf course is called in. The dead woman has a barcode tattooed on her neck, and there is no evidence of any way she could have got up a tree to hang herself, so Eve's team find themselves investigating two murders - are they connected?

Masson tightly plots a tale of glittering wealth and privilege built on exploitation, corruption, abuse and human trafficking of vulnerable women. We share DI Hunter's frustration at the walls of silence that money can buy, and I took a quiet pleasure in watching her mature and start to lay to rest the demons that have plagued her since childhood.

A very worthy follow-up to last year's Hold Your Tongue.

Two seemingly unconnected deaths - one, a young man who is found dead in his apartment, whilst the second is a young woman who was founded hanged at the local golf course and initially suspected of being a suicide. As DI Eve Hunter and her team investigate, however, they find that the evidence is leading them towards a showdown with a group of families from an elite school, Money talks but Hunter is determined that wealth will not allow those responsible to get away with it.

I read the first book in the series and was fairly impressed, and this second book is even better. The characters have started to settle into their roles and work well together. Although the theme has been done before, I found that writing was good enough to keep my interest once the book got going. I would definitely read the third book in the series.

Thanks to NetGalley and publishers, Random House UK/Transworld Publishers/Corgi, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Back with Eve and her team as they investigate the death of a young man and then a woman who apparently hung herself but it soon becomes clear it was murder. Are the two cases linked and can they figure out what happened?

This is book two in the series but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first as I found myself getting lost in what was happening. That being said, I did find the ending was really well done. I had a feeling there was more going on than first thought. Eve is a tricky character to like. I liked her more in the first one but I do like the others she works with. They give more depth to the story. An interesting crime/thriller,

2nd in the series of crime fiction / police procedural following DI Eve Hunter. Well plotted with believable characters as Eve and the team attempt to put together the (always) incomplete evidence they initially find.

The second book in the series was an enjoyable read, I preferred the first as I feel the plot for this one was a little over done, human trafficking is a plot for many books and I dint feel this stood out enough to capture my attention to read again sometime. The part I do love about these books is the characters, I love a good strong female lead and thought the setting was well reviewed and captured. I will be looking forward to the next book by this author as she is a fantastic story teller, I just felt this plot wasn't for me.

This book is the second instalment in the DI Eve Hunter series. While an enjoyable read I am not sure if I enjoyed it as much as the first book.
A woman is found hanging from a tree on a local golf course but it soon becomes obvious that she didn’t commit suicide. The team of detectives are also called to investigate the death of a young man with connections to an elite public school. Links to human trafficking begin to emerge but deeply held secrets surrounding the death of the man hinders the team in their investigations. It becomes obvious that the deaths are connected but uncovering the truth proves very difficult. A surprising twist at the end.

The second novel in the DI Eve Hunter series, following Hold Your Tongue. I’m yet to read the first one, however this can totally be read as a stand alone novel, you don’t have to read the first to understand what’s going on. On to the review... I am a sucker for a crime thriller. The plot is dark and twisty, involving human trafficking and prostitution. DI Hunter is a great protagonist, a female boss with a heart of gold. I did get a little bit confused throughout the book with some of the characters, I didn’t know who was who at some points. This was probably down to my lack of concentration, or being distracted at the time of reading it. Having said that, I enjoyed the development of the characters within the police team, getting to know them at home as well as at work. I wasn’t expecting the ending, there were twists and turns throughout, and soon I’ll definitely be getting hold of the first book to read!

My thanks to Random House U.K. Transworld Publishers/Corgi for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Out For Blood’ by Deborah Masson in exchange for an honest review. It was released as an ebook in November with its paperback and audiobook editions to be published on 10 December. I have purchased its ebook.

This is the second in her series of gritty police procedurals set in Aberdeen featuring DI Eve Hunter. The author provides some details on the events of Book 1, ‘Hold Your Tongue’, though I would recommend reading the first book for a full background on its ongoing characters.

Only hours after the discovery in a central Aberdeen apartment of the body of the son of an influential businessman, a teenaged girl with no identification is found hanged in what at first is a suspected suicide.

DI Eve Hunter and her team investigate the two cases though find unexpected links between them. They soon are caught up in a tug-of-war between privilege and poverty; between the elite and those living on the fringes of society.

This was a solid police procedural; a slow burn with a detailed sense of the investigative processes. It’s a strong follow-up to ‘Hold Your Tongue’, and I look forward to future cases for DI Eve Hunter.

I certainly recommend it and the series to lovers of crime fiction and Tartan Noir.

I found this a solid and easy read that kept me guessing till the end!

Two dead people. Was it suicide or murder? Will Eve Hunter be able to keep her cool and figure out why the rich Dean Johnstone died and who is the unidentified woman who was found hanging from a tree on a golf course? It's a story about rich people who get away with murder; a story about woman trafficking and prostitution. Things that are happening every day.

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK, Transworld for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

I like thrillers, and strong female leads, I liked Eve ,I like flawed and interesting characters .However, I wasn't that enamoured with the plot, and found the pace of the book to be a bit slow. So I have mixed feelings about this book. I would read more in this series, but didn't love this one.

This book was detailed, heavily researched and well plotted. The pace of the book was a little slow for me but I enjoyed it and would recommend it. The characters have moved on a little from the first book, but I'm not sure if it was necessary to have read it before this one.

I'm always reluctant about reading sequels after I have enjoyed part 1. Hold Your Tongue was simply brilliant, but Out For Blood as brilliant, if not more! Deborah Masson builds brilliant characters and storylines, the twists and turns nail biting and I hadn't seen the end coming at all. Really can't wait for the third novel in the DI Hunter series!

A great start and middle, but a disappointing end, with a bizarre, over-the-top showdown that seemed straight out of a movie, and more of an infodump to tie up loose ends than a satisfying conclusion. However, this wasn’t my first Eve Hunter novel, and I will seek more out in future.

Out for blood is the 2nd book in the DI eve Hunter series set in Aberdeen. Book 1 was ok/good but book 2 was so much better!
In ‘Out for blood’ DI Hunter and her team investigate the deaths of a woman found hanging and a prominent local businessman’s son. What unravels is a well written fast paced plot that really keeps you wanting to read more. I got through this within a few days! Really likeable characters which is always a big plus for me ☺️ Perfect for those who like me love a crime thriller/police procedural. Published on the 10th dec so not long to go!

DI Eve Hunter #2

The son of an influential businessman is found dead in his central Aberdeen apartment. Hours later, a teenage girl with no identification is found hanged I'm a suspected suicide. DI Eve Hunterand her team investigate the two cases, they find themselves in a tug of war between priveliged and poverty.

With the family and friends of Dean Johnston reluctant to give information, DI Eve Hunter and her team have their work cut out. The plotline is gripping. Two separate crime scenes, two victims but they are intricately linked. The story includes human trafficking. The book also refers back to the previous book, Hold Your Tongue. This is a well written, fast paced mystery.

I would like to thank #NetGalley, #RandomHouseUK #TransworldPublishers and the author #DeborahMasson for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, so when I saw this one I jumped at the chance to read it.

I fell in love with D.I Eve Hunter from the first book and the authors writing style. So this follow up had a lot to answer to. And it did just that and more.

The case that these Scottish police officers are faced with, is full of line of enquiry that are covered by lies that run so deep, the lies dont even know the truth anymore. Following the team on their way to truth was gripping and mind-boggling because you just had no idea where the next answer was going to lead.

The reveal was just astounding. Absoultely loved it and felt like I was there, working it all out in my brain at the same time as the team.

I cant wait to read the next installment, which I'm hoping is soon because my word I am falling in love with this team and cant wait to see their relationships blossom!

I found Out for Blood to be a well written police thriller. Although this was book two in the series and I hadn’t read book one, I didn’t feel this detracted in any way. The book starts with the body of a man being discovered in his apartment. Hours later, the body of a young female is discovered. DI Eve Hunter and her team are looking into both deaths and make some shocking discoveries. Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK and the author for the chance to review.
