I really enjoyed this second book with DI Eve. I read the first book hold your tongue & loved it also. The chapters were nice and short, some of the characters were hard to know who was who but I think that was my issue and the story flowed nicely. It does reference back to some bits from the first book but you could read this as a stand alone if you wanted to. Two people are found dead with suspicious circumstances & DI Eve Hunter takes on the two cases to prove herself after the first book drama. It's a tug of war between poverty & privileges and the people at the top have had power for too long

I loved the first DI Eve Hunter book so was thrilled when I was sent the second to review. I expected the same graphic serial killer tone but couldn’t have been more wrong!
By contrast, the second instalment lacks the “blood and guts” of the first, in fact this book is based mainly around two simultaneous deaths, lacking gory description, which may or may not be linked and are simply the starting point in a very enjoyable book. Do not let that deceive you into thinking this makes the storyline less punchy or pacy though. It simply illustrates Deborah Masson’s versatility in writing styles.

The relationships between the police officers are further developed, most of the animosity towards Eve Hunter having dissolved at the conclusion of book one although some still remains in the wider force. Eve still has her issues and her relationship with her DCI is less than easy.

What this book does I feel is open the door to developing the back-stories of several of the characters, especially Eve Hunter’s early life. There is clearly more to explore in the lives of all of her team and possibly a hint into something in DCI Hastings’ background too in this instalment. I hope this means a long series as I absolutely love these books.

The book is easy to read, no “downtime” as the plot unravels quickly, with twists and turns especially in the clever sub-plot. The plot centres around the “old school tie”, in particular three entitled individuals, it intertwines the world of those at the top of the organised crime tree and those who they control all hidden behind the veneer of success, riches and resultant influence.

Deborah Masson announced her arrival on the crime scene with “Hold Your Tongue” and has cemented her place with “Out for Blood”. I look forward to many more in this series as the characters and plot develop further.

DI Hunter is back at work after the traumatic events of ‘Hold Your Tongue’ and her team has two deaths to deal with, a murder & a ‘suicide’. They encounter a ‘Trinity’ of three very powerful & influential men in Aberdeen, two of whom have now lost their sons. The team uncover a dark underside to the shiny world these men, and their sons, inhabit. Can they discover what led to these two deaths and who is responsible?
Final twists & turns in this story leave you desperate to keep reading!

My thoughts about this brilliantly written police  procedural, 2nd outing in the DI Eve Hunter series, was outstanding. the best part of the book I loved was how a body of A young man, the son of an influential businessman, is discovered dead in his central Aberdeen apartment. and a 2nd body of a teenage girl being found hanged, was brilliant, and to find out if the 2 murders were connected together was fantastic, the characters, I loved the most was DI Eve Hunter, who is a fearless detective, who will not stop until she finds the killer, who is responsible for the murders. A cat and mouse game that truly is gripping, to find out who the real killer was, and his real motivation for killing people was fantastic. Author Deborah Masson's writing is truly unbelievable, she makes you turn the pages until you find out who is the killer, I loved how shes written a powerful story that is truly remarkable, and gripping, that is about revenge. A brilliantly written gripping police procedural, that will defiently take your breath away. Highly recommended. I would like to say thank you to Transworld Books, and Netgalley for giving me a chance to read and review this outstanding thriller. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💥💥💥💥💥

An entertaining police procedural where DI Eve Hunter is investigating the discovery of two bodies. One at a golf course and one in a luxury apartment. The two come from very different lifestyles and on the surface couldn't be further apart.
Eve and her team investigate and dig into the opposing strands of society.
The characters are well written and the book moves at a decent pace keeping the reader engaged till the end.
Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you want a good police procedural novel to sink your teeth into you cannot go wrong with Deborah Masson's latest trip out with DI Eve Hunter and her merry crew.

Still under the review of the departmental psychologist Eve tries to hang onto her temper and do things right for a change. In this book we have the dead son of a wealthy prominent businessman and not long after an unnamed girl hanging from a tree on the local golf course.

With the clues taking them nowhere and the other members of the business community closing ranks Eve struggles to make any connections until she goes looking for a file for another death, another son from a wealthy family only to find the electronic and paper versions have gone missing.

Brilliant. A great new voice in the police procedural world. Hooks you in from the first chapter and doesn’t let up. Characters are real people you want to spend time with. Out For Blood has everything you need in a crime thriller and more.

I received an ARC of this book via netgalley. Whilst I have enjoyed the development of Eve's character and those of the others in the team I don't understand the negativity towards her, it feels like if the power that be don't want her they should just get on and do something about it. It adds nothing to the narrative line of the series and, in my opinion, almost detracts from it. They seem to have taken all the fight and feist out of Eve in this follow on.

The cases that begin this second book has elements from all ends of society two deaths, st first seemingly unconnected run on parallel lines that inch ever closer. The case lacks the twists and turns of the last book in the series and at times even feels quite mundane. There is little guess work needed to see who if not how they are intertwined.

it must be difficult to follow something like Hold Your Tongue the first in this series and for me this has failed to do so with any aplomb. It is a decent book just nothing to make it stand out from the mass of Mystery and thriller writing. I hope the author brings back the feisty team that populated the first book in the series.

Having been gripped by the author's debut novel, I was excited to receive an ARC of 'Out for Blood' from NetGalley..

DI Eve Hunter and her team are working on a new case. The body of a young woman is found hanging in the park and a young man is found dead in his apartment. As the story progresses, we establish that the murders are linked.

Dean Johnstone was part of 'the trinity' with his two friends from a prestigious school. It transpires that the boy's fathers had formed their own trinity during their time at the school.

The second story is carefully woven through the narrative. Andreea is involved with a group of Eastern European women who have been trafficked and are 'owned' by two brothers. They have been branded with a barcode tattoo on their necks.

Both threads come together for a climactic ending. Throughout the novel, I felt sorry for how DS Cooper was treated by his wife, so I really liked how this was resolved at the end.

Deborah Masson has an engaging writing style and I like the way her books are anchored in Aberdeen. As a reader I feel invested in Eve Hunter's story and look forward to reading the next installment.

With thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC

This the second novel in the DI Eve Hunter series set in Aberdeen.

Two people are found dead, one in a luxury penthouse, and one hanged in a tree.

One is a well known businessman, the other an unknown and seemingly foreign young woman.

What is the connection? Is there a connection?

DI Hunter is keen to explore any possible connections.

What transpires is a twisty story with a couple of red herrings and a few unexpected turns.
It unfolds slowly before an exciting, all out final act.

This has the makings of a great series, the characters are growing as we read more about them and developing nicely.

I'm looking forward to more from Deborah Masson and DI Eve Hunter.

Thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the series. A gripping storyline, great characters who we are beginning to learn more about. A brilliant police procedural, I loved reading all the familiar areas in Aberdeen.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for an advance copy of Out for Blood, the second novel to feature DI Eve Hunter of the Aberdeen Police.

Dean Johnstone is found murdered in his luxury flat and at the same time a teenager is found hanging from a tree at the local golf course. What, if anything, links a wealthy privileged young man and a poor, possibly foreign young woman? DI Eve Hunter is determined to find out.

I thoroughly enjoyed Out for Blood which is an engrossing police procedural with some interesting twists and an unexpected solution. The novel is mostly told from the investigative point of view with a few interruptions from an unnamed young woman who recounts her interactions with some young men. I liked the twist associated with these excerpts as I was completely deceived.

I have struggled recently with concentration, finding it difficult to keep my attention on a novel but I managed just fine with this one. It is quite a short novel so little is wasted and it always seems on point. There are plenty of developments to hold the interest and some strange behaviour from the principal potential sources of information to puzzle over. If I have one criticism and I’m not sure it is, it’s that the denouement is a flurry of information with everything explained, including new information, in one chapter. It’s a lot to take in when everything before that has been laid out logically and methodically.

Being Scottish I’m a sucker for a bit of Tartan Noir and the familiarity of the setting. I must admit that apart from the odd word and place name I didn’t get much sense of Scottishness. It could have been anywhere in the U.K. Not having to deal with the vernacular might be perceived as a bonus for many readers.

Out for Blood is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Another fantastic book about DI Eve Huntley and her team. Quickly led you in to what looks like totally unconnected murders but Eve finds a link and they proceed to twist and turn until they click together and Eve manages to find the killer. Very engaging story and good to be finding out more about them all including Cooper, who does feature rather heavily in this storyline.
Can’t wait to see what Eve brings next. Thanks to Transworld publishers and Netgalley for the chance to read this book early in return of my review.

I enjoyed the last DI Eve Hunter book but this one went above and beyond, probably being the most compelling police drama I have ever read. There was no way I would have guessed at the way the story was heading and it was a very satisfactory conclusion, although Cooper should have used his detective skills more in his private life as what was going on in his home was obvious for all to see.
