Such a clever book.
This is a modern retelling of Henry VIII and his wives.
The story has been very well researched.
The pacing is slow at times but this doesn’t ruin the story.
This is a very entertaining and enjoyable book

So unique to have equivalents of Tudor characters in a modern day story. and a modern retelling of Henry VIII and his many wives. I feel it worked really well especially if you have at least a basic knowledge of Tudor history.

What a clever book, and wow just how much research must have gone into this.

For Wife After Wife is a modern contemporary retelling of Henry VIII and his 6 wives.

There is s cast list which explains the characters and their Tudor equivalents.

I laughed when there was a mention of things like A War of the Roses, not referencing the historical one, but a battle between two members of Harry Rose's family!

The Tudors is one of the very few periods of history I actually remember anything about from school, although it probably helps that I saw Six, the musical last year which focuses on the wives stories, which combined with the book makes me think large parts of it were based in fact.

But given a modern twist.

Think of Harry Rose as a cross between Henry VIII with regards his morals and love of women, to Richard Branson / Rupert Murdoch for also creating a massive media and more empire, and have him as the hero of the book and with some of what he goes through you can't help but feel sorry for the guy.

Set from the mid 80s to the present day, we see ingenious ways of dealing with the "beheaded" wives, and one of the divorces is rather cleverly done.

It is all really impressive, and I'm delighted I had a chance to read this. On one level it is a fabulous holiday read, on another it is something I wouldn't necessarily normally opt to read purely as re-tellings and history aren't my thing but for me this just works!

Thank you to Piatkus and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This book was truly wonderful!. I loved that it was loosely based on King Henry VIII, but with a uniquely modern twist. The story itself was so wonderfully written that it truly captured my attention right from the start and I found it impossible to put down at the best of times. A must read for certain.

I loved the premise of this book - a modern retelling of Henry VIII and his six wives - and it did not disappoint, A great fun, addictive summer read, it follows the life of Harry Rose, a media mogul, and his tangled love life and is set in modern day London. With a full character list at the beginning, you can choose to link the story back to the history as much as you want, or you can just read a fun, blockbuster of a novel. I loved the pop culture references of the 80s and 90s and if you are looking for a page-turner with a twist of history I would wholeheartedly recommend it . I applaud Olivia Hayfield for taking on a considerable challenge and doing it so well.

Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book took me into a different world, in terms of the storyline, the writing, the characters. Part of me could identify with it and then the other half would never. It was all part of the enjoyment.

Henry the VIII meet the Hollywood of today - what an interesting read and way to present an old story in a modern setting. I enjoyed the book, and will continue reading more by this talented author. Recommended.

I absolutely LOVED this book and couldn't put it down.

Based loosely on King Henry the eighth, it tells the story of a man whom simply adores women and the chase

I hated and liked Harry and also felt sorry and not sorry for some of his wives

I highly recommend this book and will definitely be looking out for another enjoyable book from this author

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for ARC

The Handsome Harry Rose......
The handsome Harry Rose, he of Forbes rich list, successful corporate entrepreneur, on wife number six. An unscrupulous rogue? Is his world about to crash around him? Billed as a modern take on Henry Vlll and his six wives, this is enormous fun and an addictive read from start to finish.

This book has such an interesting premise. It's a modern day Henry VIII and his 6 wives story, set in modern day London ...if Henry was Harry Rose, media mogul.

I LOVED it. Thought it was so clever.

Such lines as "Ah isn't that the other Lyebon girl"...made me chuckle with delight.

The characters names were clever, the way their characters were painted had both historical basis and was very thought provoking and the story flowed brilliantly.

I loved working out who was who and how certain events would come about.

This is one of the best books of this genre that I have ever read. The weaving of fact and fiction was just wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable.
Very easy reading with history sprinkled in...which made it both interesting and intriguing.

The whole tone of the book was perfect. I cannot recommend this highly enough. I will definitely be reading more books by this exceptionally talented author.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I thought that this book was a really good modernisation of Henry VIIIs life. It was an interesting read and a great idea. I have read extensively about Henry VIII and that period of history. I thought it was refreshing and thought provoking to read a modern story based on his life.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading #WifeAfterWife! A clever modern take on the story of Henry 8th, set in the Media world of 90's / 00's London.
I did try too much at the start to try to relate the characters to the historical figure they were based on, but decided that was too confusing, flicking back to the character synopsis, Plus once you are into the book, you do start to recognise and relate the characters (even with my limited historical knowledge!) it will be good at the end to do this.
You feel for all characters, which was interesting based on how you are supposed to feel about Harry (Henry 8th).
if you want a fun, engrossing, page-turner of a book, with a clever take on the history then definitely read this!

This is a modern day retelling of the story of Henry VIII and his six wives. Funny in places but a bit too fan fiction for me in the sense that it felt average and not as developed as it could have been. the last few wives felt rushed and the ending was a bit abrupt too.

A nice idea and a fun read but all in all, this wasn't for me.

A very average read with characters I did not connect with for most of the book, was a struggle to finish

Divorced. Murdered. Died. Divorced. Departed. Survived.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book, especially as it was a modern day story loosely based on the life of Henry VIII and his six wives.

Harry is a successful businessman, a womaniser and the head of Rose Corps. The novel starts in the present then goes back to 1985 to begin the story of his life and his wives.

There is a contents page of the main characters at the beginning which continues at the end of the book with some of the other people who feature, along with their Tudor personas they are replicating.

I found this distracting as, although it’s a work if fiction, I kept flicking back and forth to see who was supposed to be who. I had to make myself stop in the end and just enjoy what I was reading.

I didn’t really like many of the characters. Although in the beginning Harry was young - 22 through to 30 - I still pictured him as a middle aged letch, even though he was described by many as handsome. I couldn’t picture him like that unfortunately.

An interesting read and well written, I would read a book by this author again but not necessarily in the same style.

'This book is described in its goodreads introduction as: If Philippa Gregory & Jackie Collins went out for cocktails and wrote a book, they'd come back with this book'
.
It is a modern day retelling of Henry VIII and his 6 wives, retold with business tycoon Harry Rose as the womanising head of his own media kingdom. It should be noted that the writing style is less historical fiction and more modern day romance (so less Philippa and more Jackie 😉). I enjoyed the first half of this book more than the second half, as there seemed to be a lot more time taken to shape the characters and storyline at the start of the book - the last few wives seemed really rushed, especially Anki who was the 4th 'wife' and seemed a little like we just had to skim over that one. As much as the book was pleasant it eventually felt predictable, and I was left wanting a bit more grit.

This was a fun read but decidedly average. The characters nor the plot felt very unique and at times it became predictable

I loved the historical basis of this book - the author created such a fresh retelling of a story we all know well but made fun and modern.
An easy read that was also this sort of saga epic that spans practically a lifetime.
Successfully written and great if you love romance, historical or not, and high drama!!

This was a fantastically funny retelling of Henry vIII and his six wives.
It was an enjoyable, easy story to read. The only problem, I felt, was that there was a lot of characters (understandably), which sometimes made it a bit tricky to keep up with whp was who. This book also covered some serious topics, such as infertility.
