Honestly, I didn’t get this book. I feel like it was meant to be funny but it was too abstract. My children struggled to find the funny or non-funny side of it and found it to be silly without the laughter. Not for me.

A fun selection of poems for young readers featuring lots of not entirely useful life advice! Lots of humour and reminders that poetry doesn't have to rhyme to be successful.

This is a beautifully presented collection of poems in the author’s distinctive voice. I was instantly attracted by the colour and vibrancy of the images, and the placement of text on the page makes for easy and pleasurable reading. Full of humour, wordplay and rhyme, the moments of poignancy that finish some of the poems will give children cause and time to think. The thwarting of our expectations in the last line of several of the poems can be the source of much humour and the trigger for some calm reflection. An exquisite book to treasure and return to again and again, and one that will become a favourite memory for a whole generation of lucky children. Hopefully it will inspire them to read more poetry, and try out the author’s wonderful novels: The Imaginary and The Song From Somewhere Else are two of my favourite books of recent years.

Eye catching cover and a great way to get more poetry into the hands of children. The illustrations are superb, really loved these and the real life photos included. Funny and bound to be enjoyed in the classroom.

This book will make you entertained from the very beginning until its index of advice. It’s a wonderful combination between the poet A.F Harold and the writer and illustrator Mini Grey. It is cleverly written with many layers that can be used to teach children to play with words and ideas and provide hours of laughter and fun with its own advice machine - ‘The advice-a-tron 216.’ I truly enjoyed reading every page of this book. My advice to you: this book is not to be missed!

This is a beautifully illustrated book of fun! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think it will be very popular in school libraries. My favourite, I have to say, was Tea.

A lovely collection of poems that play with language. For example, Dear Diary where it gets misspelled as "dairy", and turns into a diary entry about a cow, or the "Ex-aggerator" who no longer exaggerates (and hasn't for a million years). Some are very funny, some are very thoughtful, for example one about the Earth dying. There were some beautiful images - like a mother's heart shining through a frown like the moon through the trees, and some funny puns, like a jumper that won't stop jumping.

The illustrations are integral to a lot of the poems, and are Mini Grey's usual wonderful, detailed and hilarious style.

I will be reading these poems across KS2 (7 - 11 year olds). Some will be great in PSHE lessons, some to discuss the language, and some just for fun!

The cover made me want to read this book. We laughed out loud at its funniness. The illustrations also made us giggle. This book is a must for everyone's bookshelf, for times when everyone could do with a giggle and some silliness. Thank you for the opportunity to review this hilarious book.

A hilariously daft, fantastically funny and beautifully illustrated book. This book of super silly poems (or very important advice depending on how you look at it) really brightened up our bedtime reading. We especially loved the poems about food “Breakfast is not Boring” being our favourite, mainly due to the very naughty parrot! I’m sure this book would be a favourite of families who love to have a giggle and get silly! We are looking forward to checking out some of the authors other titles and would really recommend this for any bookcase or school library

Brilliant! I have this on my wish list anyway and so when I saw it here, was so excited. A.F. Harrold is such a brilliantly funny person and Mini Grey's illustrations are as lovely as ever. Can't wait to get my hands on a 'real' copy when it's out.
