My very first book I read by Jeffrey Archer was Cane and Able and since then I have been hooked. He is the master of storytelling.
From the very first page I was drawn in.
This is the second in the William Warwick series. Although you don't necessarily need to have read the first it will help as an old adversary is back and still trying to double cross his wife. There is also a new criminal which runs alongside.
Archer certainly knows his stuff. This is fast paced and has you on tenderhooks.
A thrilling read and as always leaves it on a cliffhanger.
Thank you to Netgalley and Pan for the ARC

The second in this series rattles along at a real pace. It’s quite wordy at times and it’s not the most eloquently written book, but it had me gripped and I gobbled it up in about a day. Would be a perfect book for a long train journey or similar. I’ll keep my eye out for the next in the series.

I’m very grateful for my free review copy in return for this honest review. Thanks!

Hidden in Plain Sight ****

This is the second book in the series and I really enjoyed reading it.

The central character, William Warwick has been promoted from DC to DS. Whilst I believe that this story is worth reading on merit as an individual novel, I would recommend reading 'Nothing Ventured' first if you can.

I already feel that the depth of the characters is developing well in this second installment.

Once more, Jeffrey Archer has displayed his skill as a master storyteller. There are some clever twists and turns in the plot as the new, drug baron story unfolds. However the arch-criminal from book one also features again throughout.

I don't want to spoil the narrative, suffice to say that there are enough red herrings to keep the book interesting until the ending. Not quite a cliffhanger, but it certainly makes me look forward to the next book in the series.

I give my thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for a copy in exchange for this review.

Very clever plot and great characters, but I thought the ending was a little rushed. Because this was an advance copy, I found the lack of chapter titles tricky, as the story is told from multiple viewpoints and therefore not flagged when the POV changes. I really enjoyed the first book and feel it is definitely worth reading that one before this, as the story dives straight in with no introductions. That ending though.... can’t wait for the third book in the series.

Absolutely brilliant as always. Love Jeffrey Archer’s book as you are guaranteed an excellent read you can’t put down. Thank you for letting me review this book.

Jeffrey Archer remains the consummate story teller in this the second of the William Warwick series. William’s career in the police force is progressing with his promotion to Sergeant and joins a new drug squad. His personal life moves on too with his marriage to Beth . The central plot revolves round seeking out a huge drugs operation but carries forward plots and characters from the first book in the series so it is an advantage to have read that.
William is a character ,I feel still, in progress as is his future career. What will transpire for William is left very much up in the air at the end as is the plot direction for the the drugs baron and Williams ongoing protagonist Faulkner

Engrossing tale full of intrigue. Good to catch up with these characters and follow their lives, looking forward to the next instalment.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book. Archer is one of my favourite authors so it is always great to be approved and having read the first in the series a while ago, was pleased to be able to read the second William Warwick.

The series takes you back to the 1980's where William has just been promoted to Detective Sergeant and has been moved to the Drugs Squad. His first case is a drug dealer who is operating in London. Beth, his wife is expecting their first child and they bring in most of the characters from the last book including family and colleagues and old adversaries plus some new additions.

It was a little slow to start, but suddenly came alive and as with all Archer books there's a lot going on and its very exciting throughout. I would recommend reading the previous book in this series Nothing Ventured so you understand the background and you'll enjoy this book more more if you do.

I don't want to give anything away but cant wait until the next book in this series

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I like this author and this did not disappoint. Excellent mystery novel book 2 in the series but can be read before the first book. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks to NetGalley for this review copy.

This is an interesting story based in the world of art collecting and law as a famous painting is stolen. This introduces a new series based around a detective named Warwick.

A very interesting premise but this was very heavy on the dialogue. It lacked Archer’s normal pace so I’m not sure if I will continue with this series.

Overall though a good read.

Usual series rules apply as always. Although the main story is self-contained, there are running themes and unresolved stuff that spill from book one into this so, to get the very best from this book, you really would be better off reading Nothing Ventured first.
So, William has had his promotion to Detective Sergeant and, along with his team, has been moved to the Drugs Squad. They have to have their wits about them as they hit the ground running with their first assignment, that of apprehending a notorious drug dealer operating in South London. William is a busy boy as, outside of work, he is preparing to marry Beth. He also faces a blast from his past as one of his old school friends pops up. And then there's his old adversary, his nemesis if you like and the shenanigans that revolve around him and his wife. There really is a lot going on...
But the author manages to keep it all in check. Keep all the balls in the air, the plates spinning as he takes the reader through 1980s London. He really knows how to spin a good yarn. Plotting is tight and very well executed. Also very clever at times - I refer to the title of the book for this, although spoilers prevent me saying more. Characters - old and new - are well drawn and all play their parts well. Existing characters continue to develop nicely, not just William but the rest of his family, Beth now included. And his team are getting on very nicely after their move.
All in all a cracking addition to what looks like being a very promising series. Roll on next time.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

A sincere thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for providing me with an ebook copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is not my usual genre,  however I wanted to take the opportunity to read something from outside my norm. And I am glad I did!! Thank you for  opening up my mind to something totally different. Characters were so well developed that I felt as though I knew them. I love when a book draws you into the story and it feels like you are living it with them.

This book is the Second book in the William Warwick series, although it can be read as a standalone novel.
I've been a fan of Jeffrey Archer's books for many years and have read most of his back catalogue of books.
I thought that the first book in the series was a little slow and I found it hard to get into, but I persevered until the end. This book is much better than the first book in my opinion, and I was easily drawn in and found it was thrilling, with lots of twists and turns. I am really hoping that there will be another book in the series, as I want to know what happens next.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.

This was an excellent mystery novel by an incredible storyteller. The main character makes a repeat performance from a previous novel by Archer and continues keeping the readers on their toes. Highly recommended!

There were quite a lot of twists and turns to the plot, but I enjoyed the book. I had to read in one sitting, so it was good. I got an ARC from Net galley, and from what I was able to download , I assume there is a follow up, though I am not sure if I downloaded it all. - though I assume I must have got it all, because I looked up the reviews, and the book is supposed to be part of a series.

I was looking forward to the second in Jeffrey Archer's new D.S. Warwick series and it didn't disappoint! It had been a while since I read the first book and it took a little time to reacquaint myself with the characters in this world. However, as always, it was very clever, with lots of twists and turns and I can't wait for the next instalment.

Just what I expect from Jeffrey Archer
Believable characters
Plenty of twists and turns - quick paced and unputadownable
that then leaves you on a cliff edge

Looking forward to the 3rd instalment

Thank you netgalley, Jeffrey Archer and Pan Macmillan for allowing me to read and review this book.

Jeffrey Archer with the second book in this series has managed to expand the characters to make them even more believable. With a tale full of twist and turns, a really nasty villain and a too good to be true hero you end up with a full value story. With obvious full background information of how the rich world lives the book doesn’t disappoint.

This is book #2 of the William Warwick series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone book. This book picks up the story left at the end of the first book, Nothing Ventured. William has been promoted to Detective Sergeant and, along with the rest of his team, has been moved to the Drug Squad. Their first case is to apprehend a notorious drug king operating out of South London. Whilst William is working on the case old enemies rear their ugly heads, his family circle increases and he reconsiders his career…

I love this author’s books, but have to admit I found it difficult to get into the first book of this series. This book got my attention a lot quicker however, although there was still something that didn’t capture me as much as the other books he has written. However, you certainly cannot deny that this author is still the master of storytelling, with a plot which is cleverly written and all the fine details worked out to really get you thinking! I’m still not 100% sure that I like William Warwick’s character, but after finishing this book found that he is beginning to grow on me.

The plot, of course, is fabulous, with the team on the case of a drug lord with some leftover issues from the Art & Antiquities Squad thrown in for good measure. I loved the court scenes where the prosecutors and defenders tried their best to outwit each other, and have to admit that William’s father, Sir Julian Warwick QC was probably my favourite character of the book! Set in 1980’s London, the era was perfectly portrayed and we are left with many cliff-hangers as the book nears its conclusion, in true Archer style!

It’s always been obvious in previous books that the author draws on his own experiences for some of these storylines, and this book is no exception! With a plot that is so realistic you may just be reading it from a newspaper! I’ve gone from starting the book in trepidation of finding a book by this author that I couldn’t finish to impatiently wanting and waiting for the next book so I can continue with the story. Will William Warwick ever make the rank of Commissioner? I suppose we will have to wait and find out!

As a detective in the Metropolitan Police, William Warwick is assigned to an operation to find and arrest a leading player in the drugs trade. As well as that, he is due to get married, and also comes up against a man he has had previous nearly deadly dealings with.

Just what you expect from a Jeffrey Archer novel. It’s well researched, plotted and written, the characters are rounded and believable, and it moves along at a cracking pace. This is the 2nd novel in this series but it is also a stand alone read. I look forward to the next instalment.

Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for an honest review.
