I've just finished the heartwarming adventure of "The Tea Dragon Tapestry" by Katie O'Neill, and my heart is brimming with warmth! This, the third and final book in the Tea Dragon series, is an absolute gem that captivates with its cozy charm and delightful characters.

Greta and Minette, our beloved protagonists, are back for a touching tale that beautifully concludes their journey. The story centers around grief, purpose, love, and growth, weaving a narrative that tugs at the heartstrings. Greta's quest to impress a master blacksmith and Minette's exploration of her true path add layers of depth to the narrative.

The Tea Dragons, those adorable companions, continue to steal the show with their cuteness. Katie O'Neill's art style is nothing short of magical, bringing the characters and their world to life with a perfect blend of whimsy and detail. Each page is a visual feast, and I can't help but fall in love with the vibrant illustrations.

What truly sets this series apart is its emphasis on diversity, both in characters and their stories. The representation is thoughtful and inclusive, creating a rich tapestry of identities and experiences. It's a celebration of differences, friendship, and the simple joys of life.

As I close this final chapter, I'm left with a profound sense of contentment. "The Tea Dragon Tapestry" is more than a graphic novel; it's a hug in book form. I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone seeking a comforting and heartwarming read.

This was sweet. I don't have as many strong feelings towards this book as in the first two, but it was an enjoyable time. I love the art style and the queer-normative setting only adds to the cosy vibes. The relationships between characters are definitely the main focus of this series, and I love the message it sends.

I have enjoyed reading The Tea Dragon series and the last book in the series is no exception. A cute and endearing series that will cement itself as some of the greats especially for those who love queer comics with a lot of heart.

Minette, remember that you are already whole

This instalment of the Tea Dragon society focused on grief, and changes in ones life that aren't expected. It was about how change doesn't have to always be bad. About not forgetting one's past, but not letting it dictate your future, but letting it help to construct it.

Minette was grappling with her past, and trying to find its place in her present. Greta was trying to find her future in her past. Kleitos didn't even know he needed a change until it presented itself to him. Ginseng was so wrapped in her grief, she needed a change to help her get through it. Everyone was going through their own problem, but helped each other along the way in their own personal journeys.

K. O'Neill's art style is just beautiful. Even the colour scheme was just so pleasing to the eye. The Dragon's are just adorable, and I still want one of my own.

This graphic novel series is perfect for all ages, kids to adults. There is so much beautiful diverse representation within these books that I cherish deeply. The art is beyond stunning and captivating. On top of that the story is beautiful, fun, and so heartwarming. I cannot recommend this whole series enough and I wish everyone in the world would read them. They really are just like a warm cup of tea.

Thank you to Oni Press and NetGalley for the early digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

I read the first Tea Dragon book in 2019, and my tastes seemed to have changed since then. I didn’t enjoy this one as much even though it was still super cute. The message about discovering who you are again and believing in yourself is great for children. Shows them that it’s okay to lose your way, as long as you make your way back. It all takes time.

Still a sweet story with beautiful illustrations. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for something light to take your mind off real life. .

What a beautiful conclusion to this soft, gentle, beautiful story. The art is stunning and, as always, so lush. This is a world that I can see and taste and smell and hear. It's so lovely to get to spend any time at all with these characters, dragon and human alike.

I never even realized that I got approved for this ARC years ago, I just found it in my archived but not downloaded section. I have since, purchased and read this book, and LOVED it just as much as the rest of the books in this series. They are the most cute and precious graphic novels I have ever written and I will always recommend them to everyone and continue to read anything Kate O'Neill writes.

The beloved, beautifully drawn graphic novel Tea Dragon series has seen the release of another installment. The Tea Dragon Tapestry by Kay O’Neill follows the previous two graphic novels in the series: The Tea Dragon Society and The Tea Dragon Festival.

This third book in the series follows the main characters from the first graphic novel, Greta and Minette. Over a year has passed since the happenings of The Tea Dragon Society and the tiny tea dragon Ginseng is still mourning the loss of its previous caretaker. While trying to coax the depressed tea dragon back into a happier existence, Minette is also busy trying to blacksmith the perfect item, one which will convince a legendary master blacksmith to take her on as an apprentice. Meanwhile, Greta has been creating a tapestry, one which she isn’t sure how to finish.

This graphic novel is slightly more melancholy in tone than the others, largely due to it dealing with change and loss. Unlike O’Neill’s graphic novel Aquicorn Cove, which dealt with the main character’s experience of losing her mother quite young, The Tea Dragon Tapestry largely deals with indirect loss. How do you help someone who has experienced indescribable loss? What do you do to make them happy again? How do you deal with a loss you haven’t yet experienced, but one you know is coming. Time always moves forward, and people move away, after all. Despite these questions, the book never becomes depressive. An optimistic outlook always remains, the characters uplifted rather than crushed by the weight of their experiences.
Characters from the second graphic novel in the series, The Tea Dragon Festival, also make an appearance. However, reading the second book in the series isn’t necessary in order to fully understand this one nor will it diminish your enjoyment of it.

Like its predecessors, this graphic novel is filled to the brim with queer characters, non-white characters, disabled characters, and characters who defy the gender rolls so often described to them. Each character is a very real, fully realized character that melds perfectly with the world, organically populating the world with a vast array of peoples.

The Tea Dragon Tapestry by Kay O’Neill is like a warm hug. Despite tackling subjects like loss, it remains an uplifting book that is sure to put a quiet smile on reader’s faces, and remains an excellent addition to a stellar series.

The Tea Dragon series has been one that I've enjoyed all the way through, and The Tea Dragon Tapestry is the perfect conclusion to such a tender trilogy. The art is gorgeous, the characters are so relatable, and the story is lovely, filled with gentle messages and tender care (in this one, the focus is on different types of grief and finding yourself). The notes included at the ends of the books about tea dragon science and culture are fascinating and delight me as an adult (which doesn't come close to the wonder I would have felt at seeing those sections as a kid!). I also love that these books have so much casual queer and disability rep in this soft and gentle world.

Anyone who enjoys a fantasy story that feels like a warm embrace will find themselves at home here. I highly recommend the Tea Dragon Tapestry, and especially reading the full trilogy in order. Recommended especially for fans of Taproot by Keezy Young and The Sprite and the Gardener by Rii Abrego and Joe Whitt.

Vol 1 : The Tea Dragon Society, Vol 2, the Tea Dragon Festival, Vol 3, The Tea Dragon Tapestry

Greta is a young, aspiring blacksmith in a fantastical world with many animal-human hybrid beings. She finds a tea dragon in the market one day and rescues it from becoming dinner for some hungry wolves. Greta returns the tea dragon, Jasmine, to her master Hesekiel, a local tea house proprietor. When Greta becomes interested in tea dragons, Hesekiel and his partner, Erik, bring Greta into their fledgling Tea Dragon Society, comprised of themselves and a foundling named Minette. In the second volume, we see Erik and Hesekiel in their past adventuring days. Erik takes Hesekiel back to his village where Rinn, his niece, is trying to find her place in village life. Rinn finds a dragon who has been asleep for eighty years who was supposed to be guarding the village, but was put to sleep by the creature Erik and Hesekiel are here to take out. In the third volume, Greta has the opportunity to become a blacksmith apprentice to a well-respected master as long as she smiths a piece that inspires him. Minette, meanwhile, is struggling with her lack of memories and some of her residual powers we found out about in volume one. Greta continues to care for her tea dragon, Ginseng, who is mourning for its former master.

This series is very cute, but it has a lot of depth to it. There are things about this world that are not fully explained, but I don’t miss the lack of exposition. O'Neill succeeds in drawing the reader in to this lovely little world she's built, to the point where I don't need to know why some of the characters are mostly human with animal features, and others are fully animal. All of the little tea dragons are extremely adorable, and I think there is a good morale to be had in inspiring others to take care of animals that could be transferred to every-day pets for young readers. The characters are also drawn very cutely with large eyes and soft features. The colors are beautiful, as seen on the covers of the books, with beautiful balance of pastels and shading that make the landscapes very lush and inviting. This is a charming series that will appeal to younger readers who are looking for a fantasy tale about friendship and animals.
