*I received an eARC of this book via NetGalley and Penguin, but all thoughts are my own*

I have very mixed feelings about this book. The prose itself was beautiful and I loved the atmosphere Sebastian created through his writing. I felt truly transported to the time and place the novel was set in - I could practically feel the sun and the grass on my skin in that opening scene. Unfortunately I didn't love the characters, and I'm not sure that's purposely how they were written. I didn't understand what motivated the protagonist. I found that the book didn't really get inside his head in the way I would have liked.

However, there was one chapter - the middle chapter - which I loved, that was told through a letter from one of the women in question. I enjoyed that I could actually get into the head of one of the characters and find out more about her thoughts on relationships and love. I really found that chapter enjoyable. Unfortunately the rest fell a little bit flat for me.
