My thanks to NetGalley and publisher Canelo for the ARC.

This is lovely Summer read with well-drawn main characters and heart-felt dialogue. A real pleasure.

Sophie is mourning the passing of her mother; she has spent many years taking care of her in her Council house to the point where Sophie now has no friends, no social life, no job, and the prospect of being evicted. Her Aunt Anne convinces her she needs to take a break before thinking about anything else, so she books a 2-week holiday in Tenerife. On one of her forays along a coastal path she notices a lovely villa which has a notice tied to the gates; using Google Translate she sees it is a Help Wanted notice. Weighing up all the pros and cons of returning to the UK or spending more time on the island, Sophie gets to meet Hugo and his dog Paco and rashly agrees to help out for 3 months. After returning home for a week to clear the house and store her belongings she returns to the island and begins her new job. Hugo's nephew Alex is suspicious of her motives but is also extremely good looking. Dominic's parents run an English grocery shop - he helps out when not surfing and Sophie starts to enjoy his easy company.
Will Sophie ever get past Alex's suspicions? Does he want her to leave the lovely villa?

This is a heartwarming story with heart-stopping moments as you become immersed in the scenic atmosphere of the island - but Hugo is battling with a decision and Sophie so wishes she could help him - can she?

I have read all of Lilac Mills books and was excited to be given the opportunity to review this one and it didn’t disappoint.
I felt like I was in Tenerife with the sun sea and sand. I loved the rumbling love story which smouldered slowly without being mushy
I would highly recommend and look forward to the next book now

This is certainly a very light read book regardless of the primary subject matter. It is easy and in the end, uplifting.
It did take me quite a while to get into it as it was quite slow, to begin with. However, once you have gotten to know Sophie and you are on Tenerife with her, it really starts to pick up. It was a little saccharine in places, and things did fall into place a little too easily but if you went with the flow and emerged yourself in the essence of the book it made for a pleasant read.
Sophie has lost her mother and is at a bit of a loss as what to do with her life. Her life had revolved around looking after her mother, and now she is gone she has to start looking after herself. She goes on holiday to Tenerife, and before long, the island has won her heart, and she starts to make future plans.
I learnt so much about Tenerife. It hasn’t been somewhere that I’ve wanted to visit, but all the descriptions of the mountains and the views have changed my mind.
I love Lilac Mills’ books, but this wasn’t one of my favourite of hers. I’m not sure if it was the mixture of moroseness from the main character and the little bit too sickly sweet perfectness that is intertwined that has me coming to this conclusion. I’m usually smiling along with her characters and rooting for their happiness, but I didn’t really like either of Sophie’s love interests so didn’t really feel invested in that side of things. However, it was a lighthearted and good-natured read. Nothing majorly wrong with it but not one I will be thinking of for long after finishing.

A great read in a great setting - makes me want to go to Tenerife now!

Sophie is in Tenerife for a holiday, encouraged to take a break after losing her mother. When she finds an opportunity to stay longer, helping out Hugo, she takes a chance.
When she meets his nephew Alex, they don't get off to the best of starts, but soon she is falling for him. What will happen when he returns to his job in Iceland and she goes back to the UK?

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Sophie, whose finding it hard to come to terms with the loss of her mother,

Her aunt suggests a break away from it all. So Sophie starts thinking of where she can go. She decides to go to Tenerife,

Whilst on a walk, Sophie stumbles across a Help Wanted sign for local pensioner named Hugo, Taking a a leap of faith she accepts the job.

Then when she’s back home, starts thinking whether she’s done the right thing, weighing up the pros and cons. In the end decides to go through with it.

But, she soon finds that her life on the island isn’t all plain sailing. The villa is under threat and added to that Hugo’s nephew Alex shows up, immediately thinking that she’s there under false pretences to take Hugo’s money etc

Now Sophie must decide if her future lies in Tenerife or is she better off back home. Also, will she be able to leave behind Hugo and whatever is happening between her and Alex.
