I have enjoyed every book put out by Yumiko Higuchi and this one is no different. As always, we're given clear step by step instructions on how to create beautiful nature inspired embroidery motifs. The idea is to take it a step further and turn these motifs into the focal point on beautiful purses. I can see myself making quite a few of some of these from start to finish but where I think I see the real value is in all the motifs themselves. You can use them for anything from wall hangings to clothing.

Very specific materials are given so it takes all the guess work out but if you're more experienced you can very easily customize each of these designs.

Some embroidery experience seems to be a good place to start but the instructions for both embroidery and for creating the bags themselves is very well laid out and I think an enthusiastic beginner would be able to achieve the finished look.

I would highly recommend getting any of Yumiko's book in a physical format though because the layout tends to be much better. You'll also frequently probably go back to them for inspiration so they're worth having on your shelf for easy reference.

Many thanks to NetGalley for an early review copy in exchange for a fair assessment of this title.

I've only recently started embroidering again, and part of what had excited me and encouraged me to pick up a needle was the stunning work of Yumiko Higuchi.

This book attempts to show how to create the simple but elegant motifs that Higuchi uses in her embroidery. She shows how to make a coin purse and dinner clutch (different sizes) in order to display the embroidery in a way that can be stylishly displayed.

In addition to various tutorials on how to create the stitches she uses, she also includes the specific colours of embroidery thread and needle sizes for those who want to replicate exactly what she has done.

While I'm not sure I will ever make a purse, I know that I will use these lovely instructions again and again. Many thanks for such a lovely book to review.

I always look forward to a new embroidery book by Yumiko Higuchi! This new volume is all about stitching flowers onto little purses. As an enthusiastic collector of bags and purses, this is heaven! The images of each pattern are lovely, and the instructions are easy to follow.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Gorgeous designs and a clear step by step guide to forming the purses. It would aid the reader/user to already have embroidery experience but the designs are easy enough for adventurous beginners. I love Higuchi's style-substantial yet airy.

This is a beautifully presented book divided into 25 projects (mostly purses) and covering 20, mostly nature based, themes.

The book has clear, step by step photos to show what materials you need and how to stitch your projects and also full size charts for them all.
I would have preferred the finished project photographs to be with the instructions for each project, rather than all the project photos and then all the instructions together. I only had an electronic copy of the book, a physical book might make this less of an issue.

Overall, this is a lovely book to get you started with delicate embroidery on purses.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the free advanced copy of this title.

This lockdown made me try a few things. I learnt embroidery ages ago. This book totally intrigued me to request it on NetGalley. Thank you, NetGalley for the review copy in return for my honest review.
This book focuses on many cute and easy embroidery designs. I can totally see myself doing a few of these.

What beautiful embroidery motifs!

The book is divided into several different categories of motifs, such as flowers, butterflies, feathers, cats, among others.

Each chapter presents images of the embroidery itself as well as photographies of the final project: the purse.

At the end of the book you can find a brief and clear explanation of the stitches you need for each motif, the patterns with the stitches used in every part of the motif, and the patterns themselves.

I think I'll update this review once I make, at least, one of the motifs.

Thanks to Zakka Workshop and NetGalley for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

I have been doing hand embroidery for years and am always excited to see a new book released that incorporates techniques that are new to me. This book has some lovely ideas and very clear instructions that will appeal to those new to the craft and veterans alike. It's a lovely book and excellent value, will absolutely use it next time I'm teaching someone needlework,

One star off due to the ebook format not quite working like it could, but if that issue were fixed this book would be even more stellar.

This seems like a nice book; however I don’t think it works in Kindle form. I think I would have been more impressed had it been in colour and either a PDF version or an actual book.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

While I don't love the e-book layout and would definitely recommend readers to purchase the physical copy, I really, really enjoyed this book. The creations and embroidery are beautiful and creative, and I think there's a lot of inspiration to be found with this book. I pulled out my embroidery hoop while going through this book and got some really cute ideas! I loved the step-by-step processes, and the instructions are super clear. Definitely would recommend this one!
