This was a slow read for me and I couldn't get into it at all. It is also somehow the sequel, but doesn't feel like it is. Rather it feels like it should be a prequel to the first book.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

A very fast-paced story and quick reading and in order to understand this book better, I read the first book first prior to reviewing "The Last Prince", however, it would have been possible to read as a standalone work of fiction and I have to admit, "The Last Prince" read more like a prequel, not a sequel. It read as YA work of fiction and was pretty easy to go through.

Language: 4*: the language was very accessible and easy to digest, making very fast reading without having to reread passages for better understanding.
Idea/Plot: 3*: it is a "Save the day" plot and It makes the read easy, however predictable at many degrees.
Evolution 3.5*: as mentioned, pretty predictable relationships evolution, however, I really enjoyed character growth.
Interest keeping: 3*: the backstory retelling I really liked because it made the book very open to someone who hasn't read part 1.
Conclusion: predictable, yet pleasant conclusion
Overall very light and pretty captivating reading, thanks to the author.

I received this as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for giving me access.

This is a wonderful prequel style novel that takes you through Ninian’s life and how he was led to Áed.

Upon reading The Hidden King last June, Radcliff destroyed my heart with some events that take place early on. Needless to say, it was repaired slightly with The Last Prince.

In book one, I fell in love Ninian, so I was exited that this book was about him. My heart aches for him and how his life became. No child should have to suffer as he did.

Radcliff knows how to really drawn you into this world from page one. I feel like I have been to The Maze and maybe lost a fight or two to a local gang.

This is a must read for any fan of high fantasy reads, YA or not. I cannot wait for the third book which will be through Ronan’s experience.

This was a quick, easy read and I would recommend it to young adult readers. I was expecting a direct sequel but was pleased to read about Ninian and continued to enjoy the world-building and fantasy elements. There was a slight lack of suspense from having reading the first book, as this book finishes right before that one begins.

Okay, so after realizing that The Last Prince was the second book in The Coming of Áed Series.. I decided to dive into the first book beforehand. That being said, I wouldn't necessarily count this as a book 2. Or even a sequel one bit. This is just based off of who the actual main character is in this one. So, after knowing what happened to Ninian in the first book this feels like a prequel to me.

Probably would've made more sense for this to be a novella, book 1, or even a book 0? Not sure if that last one is even a thing.. but just go with it. Now I'm not saying I hated the guy because I did like Ninian in the first book. It was also somewhat interesting and entertaining to learn more about him and how he learned to survive.

Yet, and this is a big yet, it just seemed odd to me to be reading about him. Especially since I read this series in order and my brain is just trying to compute everything right now. Other than that, it was an okay book.. it just wasn't a sequel.

Disclaimer: I didn't read book one before reading this, but I still understood the story pretty well.

This isn't a terrible book and it was a pretty quick read. I like the friendship between Ninian and Aed and how protective Ninian was. I just felt like nothing happened in the story. There were no big fights or dramatic moments, no one died and we didn't get to see real fae. I thought with Ninian joining the gang there would be more action, but not really.

I did like the time jump, even though it was a small part of the overall story. I was happy to have some romance and the cute family Ninian makes was sweet. Maybe I'd like the third book more, since now they're older and the ending of this seemed to hint at more action and a war. I also will read Aed's book, so I can see his beginning and learn what happened to him before Ninian came into the picture.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited to finally read the next installment of this series. So thank you Net Galley for giving me an opportunity to read a and review this one!

This is book 2 but it is actually a prequel to The Hidden King. The majority of this takes place 7 years prior to the events of The Hidden King, and then it jumps ahead to lead right up to where The Hidden King began.

To be honest, I would have preferred if this had been book 1 only because I have certain information already from The Hidden King that made this one a bit sad for me. With that said though, I still loved this book just as much as the first book.

This is Ninian’s story and follows his earlier years but could have covered more. It picks up with him living in the streets alone at age 11. He is hungry, dirty and angry - forced to steal food just to survive. He learns to fall back on the fighting skills taught to him by his mother, which were meant to be used to fight the feared Fae who would appear on festival nights.

The world building in this installment definitely did a bit more to flesh out the hierarchy of The Maze and the gangs that rule the area. Unfortunately, Ninian finds himself initiated into one of those gangs for his fighting skills.

While attempting to repay a debt, Ninian is introduced to Aed, another young boy left alone to die, apparently abandoned by his family - although Aed cannot remember his past.

This is the story of Ninian’s struggle to live within the gang life he has found himself in, while balancing his refusal to kill anyone. It is also the story of the tentative friendship between two broken boys, which grows into a love that we should all be envious of - a love that includes true acceptance of each other, faults and all. 5⭐️

The Last Prince is the second book in The Coming of Aed series. I was probably one of the few that had not read the first book The Hidden King and maybe I should have because this book was a bit slow and I just couldn't get invested in the characters.

I was provided with an electronic ARC through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

The Last Prince is a great fantasy story about a young man named Ninian and how comes to meet Aed. In the beginning Ninian has it really rough but meets several interesting characters along the way that helped in one way or another. I really loved the relationship between the two main characters Ninian and Aed as well as the relationship with the giant shop keeper. The writing was smooth and the characters were so well written that you really become invested in them. Because it was so well written it was a quick read. I highly recommend it.

This is the first book by E.G. Radclif I have read and I can say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I understand that this is the second book of a series but it felt to me like it was the first where it was introducing new characters and world. I would recommend this book and will be getting the first book of the series.

I came to this book knowing nothing about it . Did not know that this was the second book in a series but as it turns out that wasn’t important the book is actually a prequel probably my favourite book so far this year just wonderful storytelling beautiful characters a great all-round experience cannot wait for book 3 I’m now reading book one

After loving The Hidden King, I couldn’t wait to read the second one in the series. The investment I had in the characters had me wanting to know more. Radcliff delivered with Ninian’s back story. Now to wait for the next installment in 2021. Sigh.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy.

I don't want to give this a negative review. I can see it'll be exactly what someone else is looking for. It just wasn't for me. I was outside the target audience. Bearing in mind that I lost interest, I suggest those interested look to other reviews than mine.

It was just not in it for me. I really had to force myself to read it and nothing grabbed my attention.

So, when I picked up this book through read now I had no idea it was tied to another book. From what I'm seeing this is a prequel of sorts before the events of book one? That's an odd way of releasing books and for me, it left me a bit confused like this should have come first and then the other book.

Maybe I need to read them together, IDK but I just couldn't get into it. The writing was good, but it wasn't the best in the genre.
