Shelly the shark is really excited that it’s nearly Christmas Eve and she plans to have some fun. She puts on her Santa suit, turns her cave into a Christmas grotto and waits for the little fishes to arrive. But for some reason, no one wants to visit until lost little Sid the squid spots Shelly’s sign. He enters the Grotto hoping for a festive treat but will Santa Jaws be naughty or nice?

This is a funny rhyming underwater Christmas adventure that is brilliant to share by reading out loud. The story will keep little ones interested make them giggle. It has brilliant bright, colourful pictures all the way through that young readers will love.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if a shark slapped on a beard and pretended to be Santa? Well if you have (and who hasn’t?! 🤣) this funny and heartwarming story, Santa Jaws by Mark Sperring and Sophie Corrigan, has you covered.

When I looked at the cover of this book I totally thought I knew how it was going to go. But it actually really surprised me and in a really good way! It’s a lovely story about kindness, Christmas spirit, and not judging a book by its cover (which is clearly something I most definitely need to learn!).

The illustrations are bright and appealing with plenty to look at. Both Wee Reader and 20 month old Wee Readette have been thoroughly enjoying this one, which is amazing because at the moment agreement between them is pretty rare!

With thanks to the publisher for gifting us a digital copy for review.

This is a lovely story about a squid who gets tricked into thinking he’s meeting Santa Claus, and how he reacts when he discovers Santa Claus is actually a shark in a Santa costume!

Thanks for the advance review copy of Santa Jaws.

My girls really enjoyed this book (even if it is a little strange to be reading Christmas books in September - but after the year we've had who cares!)

Santa Jaws is a refreshing Christmas book with a difference, Down in the depths of the ocean, we. meet Shelly the Shark who absolutely LOVES Christmas and decides to do a good deed by setting up her very own undersea grotto for all the fishes to enjoy.

Not surprisingly they are all a little suspicious. Shelley is a shark after all. But when Sid the Squid stumbles across the grotto, she is over the moon. She's never hung a Christmas Tree, or licked a candy cane and never built a snowman (which seems an awful shame).

Whilst somewhat taken back by Shelley's Festive Disguise, she soon learns not to judge a book by its cover, and Sid and Shelley team up to create the perfect Christmas surprise.

Beautifully illustrated with lovely rhyming prose throughout, this is a fun festive read with a difference that little ones will enjoy reading over and over again, chanting the words along with you as you read.

I love this book! Fabulous rhyming text which flows well and some great colourful and expressive accompanying illustrations. A perfect alternative to traditional Christmas stories which would be perfect for EYFS or a quick bedtime story. Highly recommended!

This is the first Christmas book of the year for me and I am pleased to say how great it is. I can’t remember ever reading a Christmas story set under water before, or with such a funny story!
It is completely delightful and full of Christmas cheer and excitement. When Shelley the shark dresses up and tries to lure the fish into her Santa’s grotto, they are suspicious and swim away, until Sid the Squid sees the sign and in his excitement swims straight in.
What looks like danger is actually a plea for friendship and company at Christmas,

I think all Christmas stories should have happy endings full of giving and sharing! Shelley and Sid put aside all assumptions about sharks and squid in order to create a super Christmas community!

Sid the squid helps out Santa Jaws the shark after wanting to find Santa Claus and meet him as he's excited for Christmas.

However he doesn't expect a shark Santa! For children to learn about sea creatures and have a fun Christmas themed read filled with bright pops of colour and fab graphics too this is a great little read for curious kids.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

As a big kid when it comes to Christmas, I'm always on the lookout for new Christmas stories to share with my son and in school.
This is a great fun story about a shark named Shelley who decides to dress up as Santa and set up a deep sea grotto. But, are her intentions good or is she up to something?
The book has some fantastic illustrations, with lots of little details so you will notice more things each time. It is a rhyming story and I really liked the repetitive parts as I could imagine the children joining in when you read it aloud
Each year I prepare an advent box of books to share with my son through December and this one will definitely be added to the list for this year. Lots of Christmas fun and possibly the first ocean themed Christmas book I've read!

This is a fantastic festive tale, unlike any Christmas story you'll read this year! Deep in the ocean Shelly the shark is creating a Christmas grotto with a sign on the front door which says sea creatures can come and visit the REAL Santa Claus. When Sid the squid comes by and sees the sign he's delighted! He knocks on the door and goes into the grotto but not everything is as it seems. Could Sid be in for some festive trouble instead? Mark Sperring's lively, adventure-packed story has plenty of festive cheer whilst the under water setting makes it feel fresh and totally original. The rhyme scheme has a wonderful sing-song quality and the repetition of Sid's last lines in the rhyme sequence are a pleasure to read. We also love Sophie Corrigan's illustrations, they're full of detail and humour and we adore her signature cartoon style. This is a brilliant book, and perfect for those who might want something a bit different in their Christmas stocking this year!

There is something I love about a children's book that rhymes - they are so much nicer to read and you can turn into something exciting that keeps your child's attention.
It's very well written and flows really easy, and the illustrations are beautiful and very colourful.
Absolutely 5 stars from me and my children!

Santa Jaws is a fantastic fishy tale full of festive fun!

"Deep beneath the deep blue sea, it's almost Christmas Eve and a Sneaky Shark named Shelly has something festive up her sleeve!"

It's Christmas in Coral Town and Shelly the Shark sneaks off to 'Haddocks' the 'posh' Christmas store (love the 'For Sail' sign in the background!) Here she stealthily purchases a Santa suit in order to lure the other sea creatures into to her lair,

Most of the other fish know her tricks and suspecting that they're about to become a slap-up fish supper, swim for their lives. But an unsuspecting little Squid named Sid passes by the under-water grotto. Desperate to experience the magic of Christmas, sweet little Sid the Squid knocks on the driftwood door...

Sid's tentacles are trembling as he tiptoes into the underwater cave. What follows is an exchange similar to that of Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf and there's the big 'scream-at-the-top-of-your-voice-until-you're-blue-in-the-face-moment' that all small children love - SHARK! (or quiet gulp as Sid is terrified!)

Sid makes a swim for it, too scared to stick around but hears Shelly Shark sobbing. It turns out she's not the villain we first thought she was and genuinely just wants to spread some yule-tide cheer. So the pair team up to give the ocean the best Christmas it's ever had.

Everything about this book is so cleverly done. Little touches to the highly detailed illustrations like the nautical themed signs in Coral Town such as 'Crustacean Bus Station, a sleigh pulled by seahorses and the 'Recycle' logos on the carrier bag that Shelly puts her purchase in and on other plastic items in the ocean are so engaging for adults and children alike. The 'Merry Fishmas!' line clinched it for me as a 5 star read but then I worked out that Sid's 'song' at the very end of the story actually fits to the tune of Jingle Bells - pure genius!

I'm sure this will become a much-requested book at nursery group-times in the run up to Christmas. It would also make a great choice for a book advent calendar.
Santa Jaws is definitely going on my Christmas list this year! It was a pleasure to review.

With thanks to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Children's Books for the advanced copy.

Shelley the shark is eager to spread some Christmas cheer under the ocean, but will anyone trust a Santa with such sharp and pointy teeth?

This Christmas story had my children giggling from beginning to end. It's a fun concept that touches on important topics of inclusion and trust in a humorous way.

Sid the squid's joy at the prospect of meeting Santa will resonate with young readers. And, despite its watery setting, this book feel very festive throughout. We particularly liked the bright, adorable illustrations which included lots of Christmas details

The rhyme scheme makes it fun to read aloud and my children loved when Shelley wished the ocean inhabitants a 'Merry Fishmas'!

Santa Jaws will make a fun addition to any Christmas story collection.

Thank you Bloomsbury for sending me an advanced digital copy for review via NetGalley.

I loved this book. It reminded me a lot of a Julia Donaldson one with the rhyming. I'd definately read it to my class around Christmas time and I think they would enjoy it too.
