"When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation. Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep." -Goodreads 🙀🔪🐝

I know I can always count on Alice Feeney for a book that will catch me by surprise. This book kept me guessing all the way through. I had so many predictions, and none of them were right! Not only did it keep me guessing, it also has me creeped out at times! I feel like the audiobook really added to the creepiness as well! I definitely recommend this one! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

What a WILD ride! This book had so many twists and turns. I loved the narration from both characters and could not listen fast enough. This book had me literally on the edge of my seat and I found myself listening at every chance I could get. Love this author and all of her books!

Told in alternating points of view--Anna's, Jack's, and the murderer's--HIS & HERS follows reporter Anna Andrews, who returns to her childhood town to cover a recent murder. This murder hits close to home for Anna, because she knows the victim personally. Anna teams up with local police detective Jack Harper, and the duo work round the clock to uncover the murderer's identity.

The audiobook version was very entertaining and easy to follow. The narrators did a great job bringing these characters to life, and I especially enjoyed hearing the murderer's chapters. Their voice is disguised, which keeps the reader intrigued and guessing the culprit's identity until the very end.

Definitely a great thriller with twists and turns but I personally wish there could've been some TWs. I do think the line between consent and assault here was really difficult to see clearly.

This was my first book by Alice Feeney and I'd be interested in reading more!

The story follows BBC newsreader, Anna Andrews, as she returns to her childhood town to cover a recent murder. The murder victim is known to Anna...was she involved? Or was it the police detective, Jack Harper, who knows the murder victim more than he lets on. The chapters alternate between his (Jack) view, her (Anna) view, and the murderer's view (a mysterious individual...is it him? her? or someone else altogether?).

I found the audiobook was very easy to follow (aided by the different narrators for his and her sections) and it kept me interested throughout. Anna and Jack are very entertaining narrators, but the murderer is even more interesting. Their voice is disguised by vocal distortion, which keeps you guessing and gives their sections a really creepy feel.

Thanks to the author, MacMillan Audio, and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book! Holy cow! I was hooked from the beginning! I am a huge fan of Alice Feeney and this solidified her as an auto-buy author for me!

The audio for “His & Hers” by Alice Feeney is fantastic. The story has three narrators who provide their accounts of the story. I do enjoy first person narrations because this technique adds enticing layers to the story. The three narrators are Anna Andrews, a self-destructive BBC part-time anchor with a major drinking problem; Jack Harper, a hapless Major Crimes Detective whose sexual dalliances may end his career; and an unnamed voice-distorted narrator who is the killer.

Feeney writes a very twisted murder mystery; well, it’s a multiple murder mystery. The audio provides additional suspense with the voice-distorted narrator. Every character looks guilty at one point in the story. Incredibly flawed characters add to the plot. And the story is creepy. Feeney has a whole new mean-girls classification. As with all fantastic suspense thrillers, one cannot get into the plot without providing tells. It’s a story of multiple grisly murders, multiple suspects, and even more motives.

If you are in the mood for a dark and twisty thriller, look no further than His & Hers by Alice Freney. She does an incredible job at weaving this intricate story that's told by three narrators: Jack (His), Anna (Her), and the unknown murderer that's on the loose, working their way through the British town of Blackdown. In addition to multiple POVs, there are also flashbacks to Anna's very complicated teenage years.

The book had me hooked all the way though to the ending. I personally wasn't a fan of the big reveal, but I can appreciate the twist, since I didn't see it coming. Freney is extraordinary at creating relatable, complex characters as well as a riveting plot that makes readers excited to see how the story unfolds.

Audiobook review

His & Hers was a deliciously, suspenseful surprise that kept me listening on the edge of my seat to the very end!

Narration & Story:
I absolutely loved the two points of view told with female and male narrators, hello Stephanie Racine and Richard Armitage, as well as the creepy villain tidbits in between! The twists in the mystery, insightful flashbacks, and well written characters with serious issues was so well done that it kept me guessing. The story was really good, but the narration was so well done it kicked it up a notch and made this thriller a quick, easy listen and 5 star read for me.

Overall, this was the absolute perfect listening distraction if you're looking for a bit of thrills and murder mystery!

This book is told from two perspectives, the killers and the victims. I did not figure out who was who until a few chapters in and it was very fun. This book is definitely a page turner and creepy. I enjoyed it.

Thank you so much for sending me a copy of this book. I have only liked one of this authors books in the past and that held up while reading this book. The mystery wasn’t so mysterious. But I think a lot of people would enjoy this!

This book has amazing reviews so I was excited to get into this book. Right from the beginning I felt quite bored. We switched between His and Her perspective which I thought was interesting until I realised both of these people are very unreliable. Anna is one of your typically alcoholic unreliable main characters which was so cliche because she drank a lot but “ she’s not your typical alcoholic”. This book just really annoyed me and I wanted to DNF but I wanted to find out what happened so I could write a proper review to put on Netgalley.

This book made no sense. At the end one character admitted to doing the murders and then in the last chapter another person admitted to it all and then gave a whole rerun of the book. After finishing it I was very confused and still don’t understand what the heck happened.

Take a trip on a fast paced ride as you follow "his" and "hers" sides to the story. Anna returns homes to her hometown to follow and cover the mysterious murders that are occurring. While home she reconnect with ex-husband Jack who is not only investigating the murders but is also being investigated.

Throughout the story we are taken back and forth through each Anna and Jack's posts and present while all the time wondering who is telling the truth? It is a race against time to solve the mystery and stay one step ahead to not find themselves next.

Starts off as a slow burn but each chapter leaves you wanting more and more. I knew Alice Feeney would deliver since SOMETIMES I LIE was phenomenal and she did not disappoint! Per usual, I did not think the killer was who it was, mindblown for sure.

A STANDOUT.

This book belongs on every mystery/thriller lover’s digital or physical shelf.

It is the author’s best book to date, and raises the bar in this category. It definitely will be a (if not the) best of 2020 for me, and one that I will be gifting and recommending long after the year is through.

Go in “blind” (knowing nothing beyond what the blurb discloses), and enjoy the brilliantly told story!

The first time I started this audiobook., I was intimidated by the very deep voice at the beginning and had to set the book aside for later. It was hard for me to understand at first. When I came back to the book, of course I learned that this character is using a voice changer to conceal their identity, and the voice only appears on occasion in the audiobook. Other than my initial apprehension about this particular voice, I feel that the narrators did a good job.

This is one of those thrillers where no one is innocent and everyone has something to hide. When women connected to Anna start dying in brutal ways, it is quickly apparent that there is a serial killer. What frustrated me about this premise was that the detective was not proactive at all. When two friends are killed and similar artifacts are left at the scene, you would think that there would be protective measures enacted to ensure no one else in that friend group was in danger. Aside from this, the story was well-constructed. Each time you think the identity of the murderer has been revealed, something happens to prove you wrong. Multiple people have motive, but which one of them acted on that motive?

There are some scenes that warrant a trigger warning for murder, rape, sexual assault, and animal cruelty.

I received a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and DartFrog Books.
